@ JR's piece At 62 have probably been watching the series for a d*** site longer than you have, so I can claim to be a big fan. One who has been sincerely disappointed in this last incarnation. The entire change of cast, writers and production team has in my 'humble opinion resulted in an almost amateur imitation of a once great programme. He seems to feel that his part only requires him to run around like a headless chicken gesticulating wildly and grimacing all the time, while she seem to think that pursing her lips and widening her eyes all the time constitutes 'acting'.

That's okay. I was just wondering what the criteria was for you. I remember a short series of pieces in Doctor Who Magazine about it by Gary Gillatt, you see about the fan gene. Personally, I've never claimed to be a fan (at least I have no recollection of ever claiming to be one).

    Why the ***?
..oh and welcome to soapchat! I hope you are very happy here!

P.S. As you don't know my age, it is best not to use a "probably".

There isn't an entire change of writers. Steven Moffat and Mark Gatiss have been writing for the tv show since the 2005 run and Gareth Roberts since the 2007 run....and all of those had contributed to Doctor Who in other formats.

Dunno what they think and feel. I can't guesstimate what is occurring within their thinking/feeling patterns....and how it influences their acting, only their acting (or part of their acting) but he was influenced by watching the Second Doctor ......

After consideration, I would guesstimate that fan levels are largely dependent on the depth of immersion and bonding more than anything else. While seniority in age can determine + assist in levels of first-hand exposure and levels of media exposure at the time, often information doesn't come to light until later on....and then again, there is the "How big is big?" argument.

Why "amateur"? Why "once great"? When was it "great"? Please would you explain this further/in greater detail? Sharing your experiences in greater detail is most warmly welcomed.

I confess to being a bit slow to warming up to the latest incarnation. I don't dislike him, but he isn't my favorite by far. I think part of it is Amy. Not quite sure i like her. She's just kinda there for me. Don't hate her and I don't love her. I think if Matt Smith had a different companion, it might alter things for me--hopefully in a positive way.

Lord, I am so tired of Who Producer hyperbole...especially when it all sounds the same every time. Just say "We think it will be fun to watch."
Wasn't hyperbole in the end, was it?

Anyone know when in September it comes back? I'm going to be in London the first week of the month, would be a joy to catch it over there.
Brown for first course, white for pudding. Brown is savoury, white's the treat. Of course I'm the one who's laughing, because I actually love brown toast

Cally's identical twin sister? Yes. She got exploded? Of course, that was after Servalan infected Michael Troughton in order to wipe out the population of Cally's home planet.
