Wayne played up his quiet pain. He turned it inward, it only really came out when he drank. Wynn was loud and let it all hang out. Odd they the producers didnt rein him in and steer towards Wayne's performance.

If they were forced to re-cast, someone of Wayne's physicality might have made more sense.

Wynn was likeable in the roll, but he just looked so different.

You could not have had two more different actors playing the same role in such a short time as these two. David Wayne fit the role of Digger so much. I wish David Wayne would have been able to stay a while longer on Dallas and really make the character his own.

Reading this, being reminded how disgusted and betrayed Digger felt when he leaned his 'daughter' had married of the 'dem eeeeeevil Ewings has me thinking....

At what Warp Factor is Digger's body currently spinning in its' grave, with Cliff setting up his daughter (Digger's biological granddaughter) for a romantic/sexual relationsh...nay, MARRIAGE with yet another Ewing? (The creepy aspect of chris and Rebecca being, at leat in theory, cousins put aside for now)

Wayne gets my vote because of the humor he brought to it. The Early Years movie seems to base itself on the original Digger as well.

While Wynn had good chemistry with Cliff and Pam, I felt that Wayne was MUCH better suited to interact with Jock and Ellie, AND he was great with Pam and Cliff too. I wish Digger had been more prominent, and that Wayne had kept the role. And ITA with the poster who commented about Cliff caring for Digger - but Pam did too. They both loved their daddy very very much.

I also thought Victoria and David Wayne had a better father/daughter chemistry. Their emotions were so realistic and genuine in their scenes together. To me, they were the "real deal".

I love how I still get posts on this thread so long afterward. I was always a fan of both actors outside of Dallas and love hearing peoples opinions on the subject.

David Wayne, all the way. Wynn was perfectly fine, but Wayne's Digger added much more conflict to the series. And no one on the show - including Linda Gray - played drunk as well as he did.

I agree..Wayne played drunk very convincingly..on Dallas or in any other role it called for..such as "The Tender Trap"

I also thought they killed off Digger too soon and would have liked for more than one scene between him and Jock. As for his being angry at Pamela, she was not married to the son of the man who cheated him but living in that man's home.

I preferred David Wayne, he even resembled Cliff, his height, body frame, etc.
