Icon13 Sick joke backfires on 'BB'

'BIG Brother" -- some one should be watching you.

In a new low for reality TV, the producers are allowing a "houseguest" to lie to other contestants that his wife is suffering from melorheostosis, a disease that strikes the young, bringing a lifetime of disability, deformity and pain.

On Wednesday night, despicable contestant Matt Hoffman snarked in his private video confession that he'd been spreading the word that his wife was striken with melorheostosis and that he was on the show to win the $500,000 first prize for an expensive operation.

"Just to be abundantly clear, my wife does not have melorheostosis or any other disease," he laughingly told the audience when none of the other "Big Brother" contestants could hear him. "Who would vote off a guy who's just trying to save his wife's leg?"

I can answer that! All the parents coping with a relentlessly progressive disease overtaking their children, that's who.

Matt says he first heard of the disease on a cable TV show and was simply spouting back what he could remember.

The Melorheostosis Association, for one, isn't laughing at this clever ruse.

"If Matt thinks melorheostosis is funny, he should look at the video on our Web site showing some of the beautiful little children afflicted with this catastrophic disease," Kathleen Harper, chair of the Melorheostosis Association (www.melorheostosis.com) told The Post yesterday.

Because the disease is so rare, there is little money for research and very little hope.

Yet, Hoffman squawked that, "If lies and sympathy get me the half million, I swear I'll make a sizeable donation to the foundation for this disease just for letting me use it and exploit it a little bit." But no, they didn't let you.

CBS responded by saying, " 'Big Brother' is a reality show about watching a group of people who have no privacy 24/7 . . . At times, the houseguests make comments, reveal prejudices and other beliefs that we do not condone."

Right. Meantime, Harper wants a sitdown with CBS brass. Education is everything.

As for Matt? If he does win, he should donate it all to research. Karma is a bitch, baby!

I thought the comment was bad, saying that about his wife. I would laugh if he won, it will be interesting to see if he donates anything to the foundation?. I can see why the Melorheostosis Association would be mad, but what if it helps them? They might get donations, because of the rare disease, and knowing they are in dire need of funds for research. If I was his wife, I would be angry, he is like that guy from Survivor. I forgot his name? He said his Grandma died, and she didn't, now that was bad, but his Grandma thought it was hilarious.

The fact that he made it a point to say he was purposely exploiting the disease particularly made me want to puke. I enjoy the game, but between the lame twists and the grotesque houseguests, it's getting harder and harder to stay with it.

Lying and manipulation is obviously part of the game, but it should only pertain to the game. Lying about a member of your family having a horrible disease that people actually suffer with is disgusting.

I honestly don't see Matt winning anyway. His game sucks. He doesn't know how to lay low. First he tells Rachel he thinks she's putting him up, which makes her suspicious. Then he asks to be put up as a pawn, which makes her suspicious. Then he gets caught playing both sides of the house, and makes a feeble attempt to cover that up.

For a "genius," he sure acts like a dumbass.

Lying is lying..whatever is whatever.. I don't think he can even process the notion he might be offending people outside of that house

The house is his world right now..

I don't see how anybody believes anybody on there anymore... Has any of these contestants ever watched the show before..

The rules are clear... Everything is game. You just can't resort to physical violence..

Or completely sabotage the house.. "unless you are the saboteur"

His lying is gameplay regardless of how sick and disgusting it may seem...

I'm hoping he's discovered and that the other houseguests go nuts on him. I know nothing is off-limits on big brother, but sometimes the slime factor of the houseguests is a bit too much.

Sounds brillient. This happened on Big Brother one in the UK and the housemates found out. Its a reality game show, its about group dynamics. The group will find out and it will be must see TV.

The only way it will be worthwhile is if they do find out.
