I watched Guiding Light for so many years, I really miss it.
I saw this tribute to the show, it was a awesome video, I had to post it. It made me
cry seeing the stars that passed away, especially Beverly Mckinsey, and Micheal Zaslow, and Larry Gates and Charita Bauer to name a few.

It was a beautiful show and I wish there was some way to save it. Given the current climate of daytime, I don't know why CBS didn't just ride things out with GL for a while. The new production model, for as much as I hated it, was saving money for the show. There were so many stories to still tell. Many GL regulars, btw, are involved in the web series: Steam Boat, if you're interested. I'd just posted about it in the Web Soaps thread. It's the next best thing to having GL around. I still miss GL too.

Another amazing video, tribute to Guiding and the cast, and many that passed on.
Has anyone followed the GL actors who've been a part of the online soap 'Steamboat'? I keep hoping that new episodes will turn up soon, but nothing so far. It feels like a loving tribute/criticism of the last days of GL.
Love seeing them all in unexpected roles. Watching Steamboat actually made me miss GL all the more.

Last Sunday 60 Minutes re-aired the profile they did on GL back when the show went off the air. It was an interesting choice, , since networks tend to sweep their cancellations under the rug and ignore them. It was an even stranger choice since it obligated them to mention that ATWT will also be leaving the air soon. It's always good when an "outside" source does reports on events such as this, and even better when they actually do a good job on it...but will there be a 60 Minutes-style profile done this well on ATWT?
GL and I go way back (it was my first "appointment soap" back in the Morgan/Kelly/Nola days), but the things I miss were gone well before the cancellation. I admire the efforts of the people who kept the show going, but I didn't admire the results, if you know what I mean.

I agree Daniel. My favorite show had been failing an awful long time. Sad to see it go but it was suffering at the hands of constant changes in executive producers.
Ironically, many of today's soaps are suffering from NOT having changed producers, writers, etc. Fresh talent can give a stagnating show a new lease on life, if the fresh talent can resist the urge to tear everything down and try to "re-invent" the show. Instead, I see several EP's and HW's who have been in their positions too long and have run out of ideas.
I didn't think GL switched EPs that frequently. Paul Rauch was there for a lot of years and when he left, due to illness, it seemed like he had been there too long, imo. There was that period of a ship w/o a captain where MADD had somewhat taken the helm and actually gave Ellen Wheeler a trial run and then it was Jon Conboy who lasted one year. I think Conboy made a tremendeous amt of mistakes by getting rid of many vets and older characters and rewriting the history of Springfields prominent men.
Ellen Wheeler was a disaster. She had no communication skills, she pushed the move of GL to CBS studios (although her goal was the same place as ATWT), and behind the scenes she was just inexperienced and it showed. She should have been replaced, but i don't think anyone would do it for what EW was being paid. It's a shame because she didn't realize how she impeded the show.

I'd been watching GL on and off since the 70s, but when I tuned back in at the end of 2006, I was shocked at how badly the show had deteriorated. And it only got worse -- much worse -- when they introduced the new outdoor shooting format. For that last couple of years, watching GL felt like sitting at the bedside of a beloved elderly relative. While I was sorry to see the show disappear, I wasn't sorry to say goodbye to what it had become. Honestly, GL hadn't been worth watching since the early 90s.
I agree it changed over the years, but I hated seeing it go off the air.
Here is a clip, I saw on youtube, it brought back a lot of memories. I hated when Jenna, and Nadine died, those scenes had me in tears. I love the era with Nola, Quint, Vanessa and Billy that was hilarious. I love Josh and Reva, and loved their earlier scenes the best. The scene when she jumped into the fountain, that was a classic scene. I loved Roger and Holly, Michael Zaslow was amazing, and when he died it really was sad to see such a wonderful man suffer. I had the chance to meet him, and others from the show, they all were amazing..

Thanks for the clip Sanda, that is a wonderful but sad clip. Kim Zimmer was amazing as Reva
Shayne Lewis. That scenes was a classic, Josh and Reva were one of my favorite couples.
I love this clip of Reva and Josh. They were one hot couple that is for sure.
