Excellent point. I suspect an evil girl called Kylie from Planet Balham arriving on the square on the day of his funeral is not unconnected. (Nor his stepmother Tanya being exterminated by a Dalek. Nor his step-uncle Charlie being a member of HAVOC. Nor his step-gran Dot meeting Sarah Jane in her first ever ever adventure. Nor his aunty Carol being a bit racist in that weird episode with Lesley Sharpe.)

Yes it was all a bit schmalsy tonight wasnt it, but I really enjoyed it. Didnt think I would, I'm not a huge fan of Richard Curtis, but I could forgive him for The Boat That Rocked for this

I think sometimes people bring too much baggage to an episode. "Oh Richard Curtis wrote it so it'll be **** ... oh Catherine Tate's in it so it'll be **** ... oh James Corden's in it so it'll be **** ... oh the new Doctor's three years old so it'll be **** ... oh Daniel Craig's got blonde hair so it'll be ****." It's the nature of the internet, I guess. It's unavoidable to an extent, but I prefer to know as little as possible in advance. For instance, I went for a wee during the trailer for next week. Man, those things go on forever.

Im not why he is so unlikeable? I am a fatist, I dont think so. I think perhaps its when actors kind of take this weird turn into personalties, its almost as if the perception is that he is deserving of more because he is so fantastic.

Anyway Im not sure why I find him totally annoying. mmmm

He seems quite big headed, and I also think he thinks he's actually funnier than he is. I find him extremely annoying !

I've haven't seen GAVIN AND STACEY and I instinctively avoided that sketch show he did, but I hear him on THE CHRIS MOYLES SHOW from time to time and he seems genuinely quick witted and funny. I saw him in a couple of films before he got mega-famous, Mike Leigh's ALL OR NOTHING and THE HISTORY BOYS, and he was great in both. He's a very good actor. I see no reason why he shouldn't be in DOCTOR WHO.

Is there any episode of the new series that has suffered as a result of high profile casting? I think not (even if John Simm is no Roger Delgado).

See, I don't really care what kind of person he is, or might be, in real life. It's just not important. It's not as if he's a BIG BROTHER contestant.

Thats the thing though, thats what he has become of his own doing. You never know where James starts and his characters end, they have merged into one thing. Thats the distinct difference between him and the woman from Gavin and Stacey whose name escapes me right now.

You can see a clear division between her as an actress and her on a chatshow. With him its like he is screaming "love me love me, I am great " in this cheecky chappie constructed persona annoying way.

I have no idea who he is he just looks very fat. I haven't watched Gavin and Stacey I won't ever watch it .

Catherine Tate was fab I miss Donna. I miss a really strong companion. Russel T maneged to really up the ante on the companion role with the obvious and slightly forgiveable exception of Martha!

I dunno. If he entertains me next Saturday, I'll be ok. If he doesn't entertain me next Saturday, I will imagine him sitting in this chair....

    ......and I'll be ok.

This from the Guardian's Who review today ..." Scottish Vincent falls for Scottish Amy (Karen Gillan) too. Frankly, who hasn't done? It must be hard for poor Matt Smith. He's doing a nice job as the new Doctor, but all eyes are on his sidekick.

No they're not. This is the kind of moronic reviewing that pisses me off, as if everyone who watches Doctor Who is sitting there having a wank over the companion. I'm very suspicious of men who claim to fancy Who's companions , i think they protest too much , all my proper straight friends get their kicks in far more testosterone fuelled places than Doctor Who . I realise Leela was a wank fest for fathers at the time but i struggle to believe in todays televisual environment that Amy is appointment tv....

    Very true Pamela.

He was very good in The History Boys, but it was written by Alan Bennet, so everyone was great in it. I think I'd like him better if his talent was as big as his ego. He's singing this years official England world cup song with Dizee Rascal (see below) and he looks just like a footbal thug. I think he's the new Keith Allan, only less cute

The Guardian's weekly WHO blog is great though. It's my favourite page to visit after an episode.

Love a bit of Dizzee Rascal too. May'be it's the song, to me it sounds like a song that would incite football hooliganism on the teracces !

Hardly. It's joyous, hopeful, celebratory, all that good stuff ... nothing to be frightened of.

Dizzee Rascal used to be bad news when his rudebwoi fans would turn up in Aiya Napa and fire bullets everywhere , poor little Dizzee ended up in hospital with stab wounds.
But then he put his nose to the grind , focused on music and started hanging out with Scottish White boys and now the worst you could expect to happen at a Dizzee Rascal gig is a 14 year old girl throwing her knickers in the air , certainly no bullets . He's totally reinvented himself and more power to him , he's a cuddly teddy bear now ( sort of) .
