I must be the biggest fool because I don't understand why an English Asian woman can't be the head of a drilling project in Wales .
You keep trying to make this about me , it isn't about me , I didn't post a seemingly racist comment. I've been to Cardiff and there are lots of Asian people English and welsh , lots of black people too so from what I've seen Wales has a diverse population.
I wonder if Meera had a moment when she was offered the part and thought ' oh but how can I take this role, what would an English Asian woman be doing drilling in Wales ?'

Its too funny , thanks for the laugh.

I didnt read it like that. I'm sure there are places we go in the UK where its shocking to only see white faces and I'm assumeing a small village in Wales would be one of those places.
Thats how I perceived the comment anyway
But she wasn't running the local pub. She went to the small Welsh village out of scientific curiosity. Why shouldn't Asian women be scientifically curious? That's kind of how I received it. Plus it's set in the future. I think.

Yeah in 2012 or something.
I see your point but I have a personal irritation with the 'your a racist' card getting flagged up and although we are not here to help people reflect on their isms, I do think its an easy accusation to throw at someone, stifles discussion and sends people into the arms of groups who do listen.
Although I don't know Mike he doesnt come across as a Bowman (whatever her name was). Anywayyyyyyy
You can say a racist thing and not necessarily be a racist , it is the COMMENTi have issue with not the poster.
Why should an asian woman not be heading up a scientific drilling project in wales? It beggars belief that on DOCTOR WHO of all friggin shows someone would query that . In my opinion.
Ok, in hindsight may'be I didnt explain my point properly. My point was this, the producers of the show like to have well known names appear ocasionally, and sometimes it seems that they throw a well known name in there just for the sake of it, and this seemed like the perfect example to me. I dont actually think they have to do this, as I dont think Dr Who needs big names to get the ratings. As I explained in another thread, I thought this story to be rather boring and I think that Syal was thrown in there as a well known name to keep veiwers interest. May'be if Syal had a Welsh accent I may have been more convinced by it.
Funny, I felt the opposite. I thought it was a great story, almost in spite of Syal who I'm not crazy about. She kind of won me over in the second episode though. I'm all about Bob Pugh, however:
He does a great line in sexually tormented priests and paedophiles, and was BROOKSIDE's first ever nutter--holding those annoying nurses hostage before shooting both himself and the lovely black, vegetarian, Spare Rib-reading Kate Moses DEAD.

I thought Syal was great, I was surpised by the chemistry between her and the Doctor. He suddenly felt like the Doctor in that dynamic.
Mike i get your point now , i didn't feel it myself , but i understand what you're saying .
...and in Torchwood......in the episode 'Adrift'.........as the older Jonah Bevan....also written by Chris Chibnall.

That was hilarious at the end when they had the help line
What are people meant to call the help line about? "Hi an invisible monster in my house"
Lol
yes Im still laughing about it !!!
Issues raised in tonights programme ?
What issues ? The issue of shaving your beard before you kiss someone?
It's Doctor Who for frigs sake there are no issues , except for the issue of the terrible new theme music. I might call the helpline and talk about that ....

It was just all too lovely. I made the mistake of watching that and Bradley's funeral in the same day. Too, too much. If anyone needs a help line, it's me.
To think Bradley fell off the Vic before he could experience the 11th Doctor ...
