    Default Scotty defending Cliff.

ANyone else find it odd that Scotty Demerest, The Ewing's criminal lawyer is defending Cliff against the Ewings in the fight for Jamie's 10% of Ewing Oil in season 10?

Correct me if I'm wrong but I think he had just been helping Cliff fight the false charges about Jaimie's death. Perhaps if he believed JR had set him up and things didn't go Cliff's way as they did in the court room, he would have pulled out something in relation to that to help sway the judge, even though they had already been dropped and it was officially at the time not a murder trial he was working in. As for his allying himself with Cliff, I guess he just worked for the highest bidder where and when work was available.

I thought the same thing when I recently rewatched the season. And he seems to have the same schtick because he did the same scene he did for Jock with Pam and Cliff (about how their answers could sound so bad to a jury)- I don't know why anyone would want Scotty anyway- he didn't seem like a good lawyer.

Jock would have been declared guilty if the trial had not been interrupted
Ray ended up guilty (luckily with a lenient judge)
Scotty lost the case for Jenna- she ended up going to jail

I would not have that much confidence in him.

In a case like that, the Ewings were always going to rely on Harv, so the Barneses needed a decent lawyer too.
