Default Would you recommend KL DVDs?

Would you recommend the KL DVDs for a Dallas fan. I watched Dallas during its original run and currently am re-watching on DVD and love it. However, I never got into Dynasty, Falcon Crest, and others. KL does not come on here in reruns, I would have to buy the DVDs. Being that I love Dallas but not the others, does anyone feel I would like Knotts?

I think you would. Most "Dallas" fans tend to like it. I, dare I say it, actually began to like "Knots Landing" a little bit more when I first started watching it. But, in the end, "Dallas" did win. "Dallas" now and forever for me, but I like "Knots Landing" very nearly just as much as "Dallas". Next up for me would be "Falcon Crest", followed by "Dynasty" and finally "The Colbys".

I did like a few other 1980's TV shows aswell that were similar to "Dallas" and the like. Some of these included: "Flamingo Road" and "Paper Dolls", both of which were good enough "Dallas" 'replacements' if you will. The main problem was they came too late after "Dallas" and the others had already taken off and jumped onto The Great 1980's Soap Bandwagon. "Flamingo Road" was a serial-version of the 1949 Movie of the same name. Most of it's storylines had been done before and they even used background music from "Dallas" in the show! Sometimes I found it similar to "Falcon Crest" too.

"Paper Dolls" was a serial-version of The 1982 TV Movie of the same name. It re-worked some of the original characters and their backgrounds of The 1982 TV Movie and also added a few more new ones over it's short run. It had covers of some popular songs of the time and had some really convincing sound-alikes too.

Again, like "Flamingo Road", most of it's storylines had been done before on the afore-mentioned shows of the time and in the end, when it came to making a weekly Series out of The 1982 TV Movie of the same name, only two of the original stars from that film signed-on, most notably Jennifer Warren returning as a Series Regular for the weekly show, much like her lead role in the film. Her character was Dinah Caswell. The other returning character was Jeffrey Richman as Conrad, a minor character.

Both of these shows, like "The Colbys", hadn't much originality to them and were quickly cancelled after short runs. But, to be fair, they are still worth checking out if you get the chance. As for "Knots Landing", yes, definitely give it a look. I think you will really like the close connections it has to "Dallas" in it's early Seasons, particularly the cross-overs between both shows. I hope this helps you to decide!

I think you'd probably enjoy Knots Landing, because it is so vastly different from other soaps, including it's parent show.

I think it's easier for a DALLAS fan to get into KNOTS LANDING than the other way around. Give it a try, it's a great show!

KNOTS is the best of the bunch. It eventually becomes better than DALLAS (it always probably was, but it becomes even more obvious with succeeding seasons).

In contrast, DYNASTY and FC were mostly messes.

I would recommend it but you can only get up to 2 at this point. I hope they bring out the rest.

Well I'm going to do my little bit for "gold old" Warners and say don't bother getting them. It's a fab series but what's the point? You can only get up to Season 2 anyway.

It seems like everything else is available on DVD. I wonder if poor sales is why only two seasons are available?
