Brenda Vs. Kelly! Whose side are you on?
Personally I'm Team Brenda!
I'm sorry, you may all bring up Brenda's little harmless dalliance with Rick in Paris (that always seems to be the arguement) but it was nothing more than an infatuation that didn't amount to anything. And how in hell does Brenda's summer fling with Rick effect Kelly's right to go after Brenda's boyfriend???
It doesn't! Kelly just acted on her own selfish passions and had no right to have a summer affair with Dylan!
Secondly even when Brenda and Dylan broke up, how on earth did she think that was a means of a justification to go after Dylan?
You DO NOT under any circumstances go after your best friends ex-boyfriend and think its okay just because they broke up! You don't do that!
Whether they have broken up or not that guy is off limits to you because of his history with your best friend!
Look I came to like Kelly again after Brenda left, but that just showed her true selfish - "the world revolves around Kelly Taylor" - nature that she allegedly tried so hard to rid herself of!
If I were Brenda I would have called Kelly a slut and refused to speak to her again too!

I have to say that this summer storyline love triangle was the most interesting captivating and to me remains the best storyline of 90210. By the end of season 2, while 90210 had dealt with groundbreaking themes, there was something happy go lucky about it, as the show moved into a "gang feeling".
Season 1 was more brutally honest with characters not so likeable and characters more defined, Kelly was such a spoiled brat, Donna an airhead, Anderea the geek, Steve the playboy jock, David the wanna be cool guy with his friend Scott, another geek, Dylan the rebel and Brandon and Brenda trying to fit in all this. While all this seemed very stereotypical of high school, the characters were so different that season 1 does come across as more edgy.
By season 2, 90210 became more like saved Bell- the one hour version. Everybody was friend, the gang feeling started to sink. In addition like saved by bell, the guys were paired with their respective gal not necessarily romantically but we knew who belonged with who. Brandon/Andrea, Kelly/Steve, Brenda/Dylan, Donna/David. There was no more unexpectibility.
Also, the Dylan/Brenda couple became suffocating to watch, kinda like Gary/Val by season 3, they became so obsessed with one another which interestingly the show started to deal with it through the Baja plot.
So suddenly pairing Dylan/Kelly together was such a major twist, because with the gang feeling of season 2, the conflict always came from an outsider wheter a guest star or a recurring character. There the conflict was within the gang. You just hadn't seen it coming, Dylan and Brenda being so obsessed with one another that you just didn't think it was gonna happen with Kelly of all people. As the storyline progressed, it was definetely interesting to keep it going.
Season 3- one of the best of the entire series managed to add back conflict within the characters while still maintaining the gang feeling. Season 3 really handled the angst of that transiton, the characters are going through in their senior year. In the middle of season 3, while they al remain friends, there are at one point distant from one another, i'm talking about the episodes around Brandon's gambling, the return of Dylan's father, Kelly and Dylan going steady. The characters are all conflicted mostly within themselves at this point which makes it a more interesting season to watch than season 2.

i've always been on team kelly, the kelly/dylan relationship was more interesting to watch than Brenda/Dylan who seemed more like a juvenile relationship.
Also in season 2, Brenda becomes so possesive of Dylan, Dylan is her entire world.

Team Brenda all the way! Always hated Kelly with the fire of a thousand suns and still do. She's the reason I don't watch 90210.

I'd say Kelly.
I liked Brenda too, but unlike Kelly, who became more likeable and social as the show progressed, Brenda somehow managed to outcast herself from the gang by the end of season 3. In season 4, Kelly was there for Steve, David, Donna and Andrea and helped them solving their personal problems, while Brenda became kind of self-centered, stuck in her own little universe with acting and her fiancé as her only plot lines. It almost seemed as if she didn't care about her friends anymore.
In the later seasons, Kelly became charmless and a shadow of her former self. At that point I clearly preferred Valerie and Donna. Even Clare was more interesting than Kelly.

Have you seen Jennie Garth in "90210"? She's a ride!

Team Kelly all the way!!! Love this show. The Brenda years were awesome. Gotta love that season 3 love triangle - gives me chills to this day. Rewatching the series as an adult only reinforces my preteen opinion that Brenda was very much the total, complete ***** I thought she was in the 90s.
Kelly was never an evil person - she was always good-hearted. Yes she had some spoiled moments but that's what you get growing up pretty much unsupervised by a parent and having such a privileged lifestyle. Brenda on the other hand, was always envious of others, vengeful, insecure, competitive for affection, extremely rude to her parents, very undiplomatic and obnoxious in various situations throughout the whole time she was in the show.
I am rewatching the series right now and would like to highlight some characteristic Brenda ***** moments which seem to have been ignored by Brenda fans.
1. Season 1: Slumber Party. Brenda pretty much confesses to stealing her Minnesota best friend's boyfriend. She kissed him at a party, and said "....and I know why I did it. I did it to break them up." Then she goes on to chew Kelly's head off for admitting to liking Dylan , in her screaming, whining unbearable manner. Then she goes on to chew on Donna too for siding with Kelly and calling her out on her personality.
2. Season 2: Pass Not Pass. Brenda somehow deludes herself into believing that her drama teacher likes her more than as a student. She goes on to call him by his first name on her own volition. Meanwhile Andrea Zuckerman and the teacher seem to have made a connection. Brenda can't stand it. Instead of backing down and graciously accepting defeat to the nerdy Andrea who was also her friend, she goes on to compete with her head-on for the teacher's affections in the most unflattering, annoying way! Banging doors, actually slapping poor Andrea in what was supposed to be a pretend drama scene, and basically unleashing her rage to the sorriest girl in school who never got a date in her life. Furthermore wasn't she supposed to be in a complicated on/off relationship with Dylan? Then why pursue this teacher with such passion? Best line from Andrea: "You can't steal from someone what they never had in the first place." NOTE: THIS IS THE SECOND TIME SHE TRIED TO STEAL A GUY FROM A FRIEND.
3. Season 2: Ashes to Ashes. Who can forget that famous episode where Emily Valentine was introduced on the first day of school? And who can forget that scene in the kitchen with all their friends and the Walshes present, when she lashed out on the poor Emily for no good reason except for going out on a date with Dylan? I mean, if you're jealous of your ex's new girl that's fine, but show some class, will ya?? All their friends were cringing at her speech including the parents. It was just completely obnoxious and typically Brenda!
I have only rewatched until this episode so far and am continuing with the entire Brenda years within the next few weeks. Whether anyone is still reading this or not I will definitely post some comments again! And I would like to hear the opinion of Team Brenda.
P.S. Dammmmn you gotta love the original 90210. I feel like it's the 90s again!

^^^No offence but you listed some really lame reasons to make Brenda look bad and Kelly look good there the main one being Emily Valentine who imo acted like a little sl apper when she arrived and Brenda had every right to talk to her the way she did.

I need to rewatch Classic 90210, but I remember being more sympathetic to Brenda when I first saw the show on SoapNet; Kelly making a play for Dylan over the summer was uncalled for (I don't think Brenda and Dylan had broken up at the time, but regardless, there was still strong history). Kelly seemed like the type to always get what she wanted - regardless of other people's feelings (ex. getting Dylan from Brenda). Kelly seemed more snobby than the down to earth Brenda, who seemed more accepting of other people.

what right? sure Emily was a crazy looney tune in the end with the fatal attraction thing goin on, but in the beginning she was fine. new girl in town with a guitar and a motorcycle, ho hum. Brenda's reaction to her was way too harsh. Proof of that is how the gang reacted to HER overreaction.
Meanwhile I have skipped half of season 2 to move on to season 3...ah the triangle begins. As an adult rewatcher of this season I kinda feel for Brenda in the triangle situation now. I felt the pain. I am more sympathetic to her now, and kudos to her she handled the rejection pretty well considering it was her best friend and all.
Which leads me to say that oh my, Dylan LOVES Kelly. It is so evident now. He is humoring her every whim and trivial teenage concern when he himself is going through a lot at the time. Death of dad, the SATs, the money thing. He is surprisingly more tender w/ Kelly. When they fight, he humors her to end the fighting. I understand that it would be kinda bewildering to the viewer until the episode where he mentions soulmates in the playground. After that scene then I buy it. I buy the whole thing now. It's so great, oh my god. I have to go back to the season 2 episodes which I skipped just to revisit what B/D had, so I can really compare.

TEAM BRENDA
I'm sorry but I couldn't stand Kelly she is a self righteous b****
I always hated when she would judge Val and Gina (who came from appallingly horrid childhoods in comparision to Kelly's sunshine overly privileged one)
For doing what she does best - and that is act like a s***
Let's analyse the facts:
1: She cheated on Brenda with Dylan in the summer of 1992 then waits a whole year (by which time she is now Dylans bimbo on the side) to tell Brenda her supposed best friend about the previous summer and still expects her to be bright and cheery about it
2: She dates John Sears whilst still with Dylan
3: She cheats on Brandon while she is still with Dylan
4: Having decided to become Brandons girlfriend she cheats on him with Dylan
5: She becomes a come addict for the most pathetic reasons - because her dad left purrlease by this point Kelly just became dependent on a storyline just to gain sympathy
6: Yet 2 years earlier she berated David her loving stepbrothr about doing drugs
7: She continually judges Val from the moment they meet
8: years have passed since she broke the Walsh twins heart she decides to kill
So since they have long left town she ten proceeds to break two hearts with one affair by cheating on Matt with Dylan whilst Dylan himself is with Gina
They're the 8 reasons why I detest Kelly, Brenda on the other hand is my knida girl, she's the perfect girlfriend, but Brenda admits when she is wrong, granted she was whiny in the first season but from s2 she became a much stronger person in four years than Kelly in her 10 year run
Brenda cared about friendship and making a good impression
Yet the media call Brenda a bitch when it's clearly the other way around but then again Hollywood love Blondes

In my opinion NO ONE deserved Kelly Taylor not even a jackass like Steve or a boring stiff like Brandon deserved Kelly
I'm glad Steve ended up with Janet, and Brandon shouldve ended up with Valerie,
Brenda and Dylan all the way don't you find it funny that Brooke and Lucas were the noughties (2000s) version of B/D and look what happened to them
Another Blonde steals him from Brooke twice over, at least
In the new 90210 Dylan didn't technically end up with Kelly because he dumped her hahaha it's no way he'd do that to Brenda

I love both Kelly and Brenda. I think the original 90210 is way better then the new show.
