Sue Ellen Ewing waited for the obligatory moment which would indicate that her husband was, once again, struggling with his bow tie.
She put the finishing touches to her own gown, ready for the highlight of the Ewing’s calendar - the Oil Baron’s Ball. Her beautiful, white dress, clung to all the right places and beautifully accentuated her cleavage. Yes, Sue Ellen was made to model Dallas’ latest style and tonight, in Christian Dior, she was destined to turn every head in the room.
There was only one head she was really interested in impressing though. As his lips delicately touched her bare shoulder, fastening the clasp around her diamond and ruby necklace, she sighed. She had only been back with JR a number of months but things so far were going extraordinarily well. As the head of a new fashion empire, she had recaptured his heart and reignited his interest in her. They could barely keep their hands off of one another.
Sue Ellen’s manicured hands reached behind to delicately touch JR’s face. Nails that threatened to keep any other woman away from her man from now on. Even the one that was now in her closest proximity and on her home turf.
Who was this woman and what did she want?
She’d arrived the day before yesterday in the Southfork driveway, her English accent and stiff manner having the family believe for a short while that she was a spokesperson for the DOA. It was only after the mysterious woman’s eyes met his and when the eldest of Ellie Farlow’s children stood from the patio table where the family where dining al-fresco and exclaimed, ‘Oh my God, I can’t believe it!’, that things began to become just a little clearer.
As JR had made the introductions, and as her cold hand touched Sue Ellen’s warm skin in a greeting, Sue Ellen realised that this woman’s intentions couldn’t possibly be totally honorable. At least Sue Ellen wasn’t prepared to believe that they were. Her faultless upbringing would not allow her to be rude in the company of her family, but those razor sharp nails were already mentally sharpened.
As soon as JR came back down to Earth, his arm remained around Sue Ellen’s waist for most of the day. Sensing her thoughts, he had welcomed the curl of her fingers in his own, even admiring her nerve as she had kissed him openly in front of their guest, placing her mark on him. Yes, he knew her. And he knew her well. In circumstances like these, behind the Miss Texas facade, often lay a whole abyss of danger. And from her point of view, Sue Ellen hoped that JR knew that she had been jerked around for the last time.
“She’s beautiful, JR”, the guest had said, out of Sue Ellen’s earshot.
“I know...I’m very lucky...” JR had replied in return.
So from what Sue Ellen had believed would be a one day visit, the guest had then been invited to stay for the Oil Baron’s Ball. Insisting she would not belong and politely brushing off that she would have nothing to wear, Lucy had stepped in and offered to take her shopping, much to Sue Ellen’s annoyance - and relief. Relief that she wouldn’t have to do it and annoyance that she knew Lucy was stirring the pot. As if it wasn’t bad enough, she offered to take Vanessa to one of Sue Ellen’s haunts - a street in Dallas just off Lombard which specialised in the latest high fashion and couture and which few could afford. JR thought he was going to have to remove her fingernails from the inside of his thigh as she fake smiled until the two other women left the breakfast table.
“Owww...!” he said in a whisper as he looked playfully at his wife.
“Your niece is crossing the line!”, Sue Ellen spat.
“My niece?” JR said in a mock laugh. He knew what she meant. Sue Ellen was Queen of Dallas fashion and Lucy’s less-than-helpful suggestions were making her blood boil.
Sue Ellen slammed her coffee cup down on the table and moved to leave. JR stopped her by pulling her gently back down by her hand. He leaned into her face, kissing her ear gently and whispering,
“No matter what, you’ll be the sexiest...most beautiful...most alluring..woman in the room...”
Sue Ellen jolted back from him and said, “I had better be! Or this family is going to be minus one very small little member!”
JR had known better than to dispute Sue Ellen’s temper, and had let it go, hoping that - knowing that - all would be resolved.
And then the day had come. He’d watched her - well, what she would permit him to - getting ready, each time she disappeared from his sight, a new layer had been added to her beauty to the point he began trying to guess how she’d done it. Whether an earring, a shoe, a strand of her hair - each time she had emerged from the bathroom, she’d looked even more enticing, even more beautiful. She didn’t know he was watching, but he was - entranced, exhilarated that it would be him she would walk in to that room with.
As she had added those final touches, and felt his lips against her skin, she whispered,
“I’m coming”
“Not yet I hope...” he said, the innuendo in his tone and in the deep growl of his voice more than apparent.
She giggled, making him laugh as she blushed.
“After so many years, I can still make you blush”, he said smiling.
“Like no other...” she said, turning to face him. As he moved to kiss her, she whispered, “Now don’t start...we’ll be late...”, knowing full well as she looked into his steele blue eyes that she really couldn’t care less. She wanted to leave her mark on him, even if it meant him walking into the Ball with a mouth full of her lip gloss. He sensed the intensity in her kiss, gently pulling back from her as he softly said,
“You’re incredible...you know that?”
Sue Ellen sighed and smiled, “So are you..” and began doing what came natural to her - fixing his tie.
When she had perfected it, him watching her every move, she moved to the door, knowing he had followed her body as thoughts filled his mind of how she would be close to him later that night - with any luck.
He took one last sip of his Bourbon, and clumsily sat it down on the side bar in anticipation, watching his beautiful wife open the door. He was a lucky man.
He’d been nominated for the Oil Baron of the Year award - for the first time ever, after successfully seeing off terrorist BD Calhoun and saving the life of many men who had had no choice other than to work under him in the hot oil fields of Saudi Arabia. Not only had JR seen to it that BD be brought to justice, but he’d helped bring many Americans home, safely delivered to their families and set up with new jobs. It was probably one of the most honest, worthwhile things he’d ever done. And now he had Sue Ellen back in his life. This new dynamic woman who he was taking great pleasure in rediscovering, every day.
Suddenly, the bedroom door slammed, as Sue Ellen quickly walked into the en suite bathroom, slamming that door behind her too.
JR’s first thought was that she had forgotten something, an earring or that she suddenly needed to use the bathroom. Unnerved by her silence, he walked to the door, tapping it gently as he said, “Sue Ellen...? Honey, the limos are here...”
“I’m not going!”, Sue Ellen shouted from inside the en suite.
JR didn’t speak at first, followed up shortly after by, “Huh?”
Before he knew it, she had opened the door, standing in front of him in nothing more than her underwear, which although very sightly, wasn’t what he was expecting at this stage of the evening.
“Darlin...” JR said, his hands moving to her waist and speaking in a sensual whisper, “...I have to go tonight...but there’ll be plenty of time after.....”
As her eyes turned the deepest of browns, she pushed past him, reaching for her purse. Lifting it, she made her way back to the bathroom, once again, the door closing fast behind her. This time, JR heard the lock pull across.
“Sue Ellen”, JR said, his voice now more commanding, “We have to go Darlin’. What’s goin’ on?”
A knock at the door and a soft maternal voice came to the bedroom door, “JR?”
Inside the bathroom, and in a defiant whisper, Sue Ellen made the call on her cell she thought, she hoped, she would never have to make. “Max”, she said with urgency. “Get over here. Now.”
JR collected his thoughts and took a deep breath, moving towards his mother’s voice. Opening he said, “Mamma...”
Before he had a chance to continue, he looked up and saw their guest, standing adjusting her hair in the hall mirror. Hearing his voice, she turned. And when she did, everything started to fall right into place.
There, standing in the hallway, the woman wore a dress identical to the one which his wife had donned just minutes previously. This was what Sue Ellen had seen, this was the reason for her sudden change in temperament. And it was no wonder. Sue Ellen Ewing didn’t wear the same dress, the same clothes or even follow the same style as anyone else. How had this happened?
“Be right with you, Mamma..” JR said, giving a nod to the red haired woman who stood looking at him, with the rest of the Ewings bustling around in the background, including Lucy, who had just embroiled herself in a would-be scandal.
Another deep breath, and JR made his way towards the door, attempting to the best of his ability, to balance the urgency in his voice at having to attend the ceremony, with trying to comfort his wife who was going through a crisis of her own. At least, a crisis to Sue Ellen.
“It looks better on you...” he spoke softly through the door, letting her know he understood, but also attempting to reason with her on one of the most important nights of his life.
After a few seconds, the door swung open, and, still in her underwear, Sue Ellen, now without heels, looked up and him and said, “JR...I love you...but I’m not going.”
As she attempted to shut the door again, he placed his hand on it saying, “This night is so important to me...I have to go. And I want my wife there with me.”
“I’m sure your guest will be happy to keep you company!” Sue Ellen said with sarcasm, her mood suddenly changing again and slamming the door.
Taking the wind completely out of his sails, JR realised, at least in his mind, that the real cause of the problem wasn’t the dress at all, but their unannounced guest.
“JR!” Miss Ellie shouted from the staircase.
JR lightly tapped the door in frustration at Sue Ellen, making the snap decision to leave her, and going to join the family. Whereas Sue Ellen wasn’t at all surprised at the predictability of his decision, and while she temporarily wished he had decided to stay, he was JR Ewing, he was up for the Oil Baron of the Year Award, and she understood that was who he was. Besides, Max was on his way....
Outside, on their way to the limo, JR grabbed Lucy forcefully by the arm while the others waited impatiently inside.
“What the hell are you playin’ at Lucy?” he whispered angrily.
“What do you mean?”
“You took her to the place Sue Ellen gets her dresses! How could you?”
Lucy looked genuinely shocked if not a little amused as she said, “Gee, JR...I was only tryin’ to help...Where is Sue Ellen?”
Ignoring the question, JR said, “I’m not gonna forget this” and he forcefully pushed Lucy inside. He wistfully looked up to the bedroom he shared with Sue Ellen as the limo engine started.
************************************************** **********
Later that evening as he made his excuses and missed her - a combination of longing and anger - he was relieved when the toasts began, signalling that his moment, or what he hoped would be his moment - was not too far away.
At the same time, the front door to Southfork flew open as Max exclaimed, "I am sooooooooo excited! I can't believe the day has finally arrived!"
"Thank God!", Sue Ellen said and dragged Max inside. "C'mon!" she said, leading him up the Southfork staircase. "We don't have much time!"
"Vera Wang comin' at ya honey!" Max yelled, in his camp, faux New York slash Italian accent. Nothing like having a personal dresser on speed dial for every emergency.
Not long after and with the imaginary tick tocking of the invisible clock, outside the grand ballroom, paparrazzi bulbs flashed, curious onlookers gasped, as she descended the steps leading her inside.
Her timing was impeccable - as only a seasoned professional’s would be. Gliding effortlessly into the crowd of faces, most her knew her, women who envied her and men who desired her, she had one goal in sight. To be by his side. She knew from years of experience that she had moments to spare.
The crowd seemed to part for her as she made her way towards the family’s table. As if they had known she had been missing. As if something just wasn’t quite right before now.
Her path clear, she realised she had one more obstacle to overcome. Seeing JR preoccupied with bantering Cliff Barnes, Sue Ellen placed her hand on the back of ‘her’ chair and said calmly, “Excuse me please”.
The Ewing’s guest raised turned her head towards Sue Ellen’s voice and said, “Mrs Ewing...I’m in your chair...”
Sue Ellen didn’t speak but maintained eye contact as the woman stood to move. “Thank you...”, Sue Ellen said, the family moved between admiration and embarrassment at her nerve.
As she sat, Sue Ellen looked at Lucy with a narrow eyed stare that only she could perfect.
“Hi...!” Lucy managed as Sue Ellen said her piece without needing to do so verbally and looked away. Everyone had noticed the stunning red gown Sue Ellen wore, perfectly boned and tucked to accentuate her bosom, a tasteful slit to the knee allowing a glimpse of her perfect long, tanned legs. The ruby and diamond necklace remained, and her stilleto heels added just the right touch of sparkle.
Not expecting her at first, so not seeing her, JR was jolted back to reality by a shot of electricity that coursed through him as her hand touched his. He was momentarily shocked to find her there and his gaze fell from her face to the rest of her body, drinking her in as though she were a vision. The surprise registered in his expression as he said,
“How did you...?”
She didn’t need to speak, as her answer came with a wink. She leaned into him as the scholarship awards were announced and whispered something. Something which only he knew. He smiled. She kissed him on the cheek and her eyes conveyed everything that she did not need to say to him.
“Thank you...” he whispered.
“What a beautiful gown, Mrs Ewing...”, the guest said.
“Thank you Vanessa..” Sue Ellen politely replied.
And as the awards were announced and as tears came to her eyes that after so many years he had finally got something that meant so much to him, he looked down on her and said,
“...and to my wife...the beautiful lady in the stunning red dress...well, you know who she is....”, he said with a chuckle, as he held the award, “...for all her support and all her love, this is as much for her...well, for putting up with me I guess!”
And when all was said and done, the same red dress held against his body as he kissed her deeply, her back leaning against the wall of the corridor, the drunken revelleries of entertainment going on all around them.
“You comin’ brother?” Bobby shouted merrily, Pam under one arm and a bottle of champagne in the other.
“I don’t think so...”JR said loudly, then more softly as he whispered to Sue Ellen. “Part of my prize is that myself and a guest get to stay here for the night!”
Lucy approached them and said, “It’s much nicer than the white one I picked...”
Sue Ellen didn’t speak but looked down on the young woman and nodded. Lucy Ewing knew what the nod meant. She knew the rules of unspoken Ewing.
Sue Ellen broke free from JR and approached Vanessa, extending her hand and saying, “It’s been lovely to have you with us”.
“It’s been lovely to be here, Mrs Ewing. The red truly compliments you. And you truly compliment him.”
Another knowing nod. The guest knew it was time to go. White may have been the colour of an angel - but JR Ewing had always preferred something a bit more devil red....

There is just nothing like finding a new Sarah story, especially this one. Wow, well done! No better way to excise the Beaumont ghosts that to write so beautifully around them.
Sarah, wonderful one shot. Truly magnificent!

DALLAS "CONUNDRUM" EXTENDED SCENE SERIES FINALE (original series) 1991
A gun shot rings out Bobby dashes to JR's bedroom and looks in horror at what he see's.
BOBBY: Oh my God.
Screen Goes Black.
Bobby looks down at JR in his sanatarium bed, who is in almost catatonic state. The doctor stands beside Bobby.
DOCTOR: What happened happened to him again Mr Ewing?
BOBBY: I came home from dropping my son off at the airport and I heard a gunshot from the upstairs hallway. I ran to the bedroom and there he was unconscious with a bullet hole in his mirror. When he came to, he started shouting out about the Devil wanting him dead and how it would be better off that way.
JR: Satan is coming.
DOCTOR: I'm sorry Mr Ewing, but your brother may be here for sometime.
BOBBY: How long are we talikng about?
DOCTOR: He has almost entered at catatonic state sir and he may state that way for the forseeable future.
Bobby turns to the doctor in dismay.
BOBBY: Are you saying he will be like this for the rest of his life?
DOCTOR: I hope not, but it looks that way. It may be years before he remembers you Mr Ewing.
Bobby's face drops to the floor in anguish, he thought he never see the day, his brother defeated. Bobby walks beside JR's bed and kisses him on the forehead.
BOBBY: I'm so sorry, JR. I love you brother.
JR: Run for your life, the devils here.
Bobby turns back to the doctor.
BOBBY: I wanna make sure he has the best care possible.
DOCTOR: He's in safe hands Mr Ewing.
BOBBY: Let's keep it that way.
Bobby turns back to look at a hapless JR.
BOBBY: See you soon.
Bobby walks down the corridor and as he walks through the double doors, he's glances back to JR, who continues to mumble, before exiting the hospital.
South Fork Ranch.
It's the early hours of the morning, Bobby sits lonely in the house he now owns. A home that once had a big family, which now has only Bobby and Christopher living there. Bobby looks at the pictures on the fireplace. One of April, Christopher, himself and John Ross still thinking of what could have been. Bobby sits down and hears the voices of the love ones that lived under southfork. Jock, Ellie, Pam, Sue Ellen, Lucy, Ray etc. Bobby tries to smile, but the thought of knowone around makes it worse. losing April a few months earlier was bad enough, but having to see his older brother JR the way he was defeated, was like a nail starting to hammer in his coffin. Bobby places his glass down and starts to make his way up to bed, when suddenly the phone rings. Bobby sighs tiresomely and answers it.
BOBBY: Hello.
There is no answer.
BOBBY: Hello?
Bobby hangs up and starts to walk upstairs when the phone rings again. Bobby answers it again.
BOBBY: Hello?
No answer again.
BOBBY: Look if you don't stop screwing around, I will not be so leneant next time.
Bobby hangs up again and begins to head upstairs once more, when suddenly the phone rings out. Angry Bobby yanks the phone up to his.
BOBBY: Hello?
No answer once more.
BOBBY: Why are you doing this? If this is some kind of sick joke, the....
PAM: I love you.
Bobby falls onto the last step of the staircase, with the phone still to his ear. It's the one voice, he'd thought he'd never hear again. The love of his life.
PAM: I always will.
BOBBY: Pam?
PAM: Take care of our son.
BOBBY: Pam?
PAM: Goodbye my love.
The phone goes dead. Bobby rises to his feet and calls out her name numerous times. Bobby senses Pam is nearby and he rushes out to the front door and looks across to the entrance of the Ranch and spots a car next to the front gate. Bobby slowly moves towards it and realises Pam it is Pam. Bobby runs as fast as he can to catch up. The car suddenly revs up and starts to drive away. Bobby panics.
BOBBY: Pamela?!! Pamela!! Pam no, don't go, please don't go!
Pam looks back crying her heart out, still holding the scars from her accident. The thought of leaving Bobby and Christopher behind is the hardest thing she has ever done and heart breaking, but she is still has the bad feeling that Bobby, Christopher and even Cliff would not except the way she is. Pam will always love them, but she thinks it would be for the best. Pam could not help but hear Bobby's voice again, but Bobby had just been given false hope and now it's killing him. Pam drives off into the distance as Bobby reaches the main road, too late and distraught.
PAM: Goodbye my darling.
Bobby drops to his knees.
BOBBY: PAAAAAAAAMMMMMMM!!!
Bobby sobs. The camera pans away from Bobby and the Ranch, as the sun rises over the horizon.

Lucky Us
(This John Ross/Elena one-shot takes place about 15 years in the future)
It took multiple tries, but eventually he was able to get the key in the lock and open the front door. The noise must have awoken her, because she was on her way down the steps wearing one of those short slip-like nightgowns. Staring at her long tan legs, he muttered, “I am one lucky man,” as he attempted to stand tall and appear sober.
“Hey, Sexy,” he drawled as she approached him.
“Hey, yourself. Now turn and go,” she stated with little emotion.
“Elena,” he whined.
“You know the rule, John Ross—no one comes home drunk. I don’t come home drunk, you don’t come home drunk. It’s that simple,” she stated as she had time and again. Sliding her hand onto his back, she steered him back through their grand foyer.
Glancing through the side light, she asked, “Where’s your car?”
“I took a cab,” he proudly answered.
Reaching into his pocket, she pulled out his cell phone and redialed the last number. “Hi. One of your drivers just dropped off someone at Southfork ranch. Please have them turn around and come back,” she requested before putting the phone back in her husband’s pocket.
“Just let me say goodnight to the kids,” he said, taking a few steps toward the staircase.
“Lucky them, they are sound asleep, so they don’t have to see their father in this condition,” she stated, stopping him in his tracks. “Isn’t that why you made the rule in the first place? So our kids wouldn’t have to witness what you…”
He rolled his eyes. “Yes, but…” he childishly protested.
“It’s your rule. Don’t get mad at me every time it comes back to bite you in the ass,” she replied while opening up the front door.
She rubbed his back soothingly. “Go sleep it off at the condo and come home tomorrow, Babe,” she gently advised, guiding him again to the door.
When he turned around, she put her arm up and boxed him in the doorway. He looked around at his house, then down at his wife. He still found her sexy, even when annoyed. “Maybe more so when annoyed,” he mused. He studied her pretty face, gazed deep into those dark brown eyes of hers, and then the words just spilled out.
“You’re sleeping with him again, aren’t you?” he calmly asked.
She closed her eyes momentarily, gathering her thoughts before speaking. For the first time, her exasperation came through in her voice. “What are you? Sixteen? Get over it already. We were kids.”
That smug grin of his, spread across his face. “I can always tell. You know I can.”
Shaking her head, she dismissed his comment.
He took a few moments to glance about, taking in all he could from his limited vantage point: his office, the hallway to the kitchen, the banister that curved just enough to be elegant without being showy. With a knowing smile, he nodded toward the top of the stairs.
“He’s here, isn’t he?” It was a statement more than a question.
“Paranoid, too? What were smoking along with the bottle of Maker’s Mark you downed?” she brusquely asked.
“Not paranoid, just observant,” he confidently explained. He stared eerily at her to the point that she turned away and fixed her eyes on the marble flooring. When she looked back up, he smirked at her.
“Is he in the guest room, or do you spread your legs for him in our bed?”
The slap hit him hard across the mouth, but that smirk managed to stay on his lips.
“The only one here is your cab driver. Now go,” she told him giving him a slight shove.
Elena walked back upstairs upset, angry and exhausted. The soft cool sheets were calming to her as she lied back down with a heavy mind. “How has it come to this? When did I become his caretaker and stop being his wife and lover? Where are we heading, and how is it all going to end?” she wondered, as she had so many times before. After all these years, however, she still did not have the answers and was tired of trying to find them. She stared up at the ceiling in the dimly lit bedroom.
“How did he know?” Christopher asks, sliding closer to her.
“I don’t know, but he always does,” she quietly answers.
Turning to face him, she continues. “It’s odd because he only senses it when he’s so drunk that he has blacked out.” She runs her fingers through the grey hairs starting to show up at his temples. “Lucky for us, when he sobers up tomorrow, he won’t even remember coming here,” she explains sadly.
Christopher kisses her tenderly, and then pulls her close to hold her tight. While stroking her hair, he stares up at the ceiling and lets out a heavy sigh. “Lucky us.”

Jessie (07-29-2012)
Hey guys and gals, It's been awhile since I posted here despite my writing everyday. Thought I'd drop by with a one shot. Hope everyone's doing well.
SO MUCH
She could feel Mark breathing on her neck as he slept holding her. Pamela was wide awake knowing this relationship was good and good for her but it wasn't what she wanted. She was with him for the wrong reason. She'd found out he was going to die and she didn't want his final days to be spent alone. She loved Mark Graison but she wasn't in love with him. He knew it. In fact she was thinking as he stirred next to her that he may already suspect something is wrong. She did a complete turn around on him in a matter of no time at all. He'd ask her to marry him and yet she wouldn't set a date for the wedding. He knew that her heart belonged to Bobby Ewing and it always would. It was hell to love a man so much.
Bobby? Her mind suddenly went to times not that long ago when she and Bobby first married and made the ultimate mistake of moving into Southfork. That was the mistake that tore them apart. They both knew that his family wasn't going to accept her especially his older brother John Ross Ewing, Jr.. JR hated all things Barnes and she was a Barnes. Of course after a short time there his parents and Lucy came around. She loves all of them. But things went wrong somewhere. She never thought their differences were so great that it would lead to divorce but somehow it did. She and Bobby divorced! What was she thinking? How could she let anything come between her and the man that held her heart? How could he let business come between them? They were both to blame. Circumstances have brought her here to this moment, laying next to Mark Graison basically waiting for him to die. When she set a date for their marriage she thought that Bobby would be there waiting for her so they could work things out. It never occured to her that he'd run to Jenna and ask her to marry him. Jenna. God how she hates that woman.
Jenna Wade was Bobby's old girlfriend. His first love in fact. She was the one who grew up getting closer and closer to him as they matured into adults. Jenna was the one he asked to be his wife when they were in college and she was the one who broke his heart by leaving him standing at the alter alone. Jenna Wade was a fool. She was a fool though with bait to dangle in front of Bobby like a worm on a hook, daughter Charlotte known as Charlie. Jenna has spent years telling Bobby that Charlie isn't his. But then when things go sour for her she comes back to Dallas and puts those doubts into Bobby's mind and he starts thinking that the girl is his daughter and he wants her in his life. She never minded that. She was willing early on in their union to accept Charlie as his daughter and work her into their lives. Jenna though has other thoughts. She told him Charlie wasn't his. Problem was Bobby didn't believe her. Jenna remained connected to him and still does.
She uses that girl to keep Bobby where she wants him.
Mark turned over and she got out of bed. She went out on the balcony and sat for a bit. Bobby was strong on her mind and when he was settled into her thoughts she had trouble sleeping. She thought of their early lives and that first Ewing BBQ they had as newlyweds. It started as the greatest day of her life. She found out she was carrying his child. They were going to be Mommy and Daddy. She smiled as she wiped a small tear from her cheek remembering the look on his face as she told him, "I learned a riddle today." She said. "What is it?" He asked. "Well I learned the riddle but I didn't learn the answer. I do know there's only two possible answers." "Pamela. What's the riddle?" He asked. "What do you get when you cross a Barnes with a Ewing?" She said. He peeked his head from around the bathroom door, "First of all, everyone knows you never cross a Ewing." He said. "Ewww." She made that face his loved to see. "Sorry. What are the two possible answers?" He asked. She remembered she smiled and simply said, "A boy or a girl?" He stepped out of the bathroom, toothbrush in hand wearing only a towel and he pointed to her stomach. "You?" She smiled again and shook her head yes. They were both so happy with the thought of a new baby, half of him and half of her mixing to be the best of them both. Then later that day, things went wrong, terribly wrong. Her father Digger and his father Jock argued and her Daddy got drunk. She was upset and went to the barn and climbed into the hayloft. That was a mistake. A very drunk JR came after her and he scared her for some reason. Backing up to get away from him she fell causing the death of their baby and their dream. Her tears were warm on her cheeks as they slowly dripped from her eyes. She stills feels that loss. God she's never wanted anything the way she's wanted Bobby Ewings child and yet it's the one thing that she's never been able to give him.
So many things in their lives that went wrong. A second miscarriage later after her horse was spooked by a rattler and then having to tell him that she can't give him the one thing he wanted. She remembered being devastated to learn that she and brother Cliff were carriers of an awful disease and that any child she had probably wouldn't live past the age of four or five. She sighed thinking how awful it was to love a man so deep and want to bare his children but denied that due to something she had no control over. Of course they had good times in their lives too. There was adopting son Christopher. That was a joyous time for them. And there were many, many nights of love they shared and learning things about his early childhood from Miss Ellie. She knew things about him he didn't know she was aware of. She wondered as she watched the stars twinkling next to the moon in the Texas night, why two people so much in love couldn't have the happy ever after? And she knew that they couldn't. He was marrying Jenna.
Jenna. God how she hates that woman. Her mind had to go to the one place she never wanted to think of. She knew that he was with Jenna right now. She was holding him. Kissing him. Loving him. Doing those things that she should be doing to him. She had no right to think of Bobby with her. She was with Mark. Maybe she should just go to Bobby and tell him that Mark is dying and ask him to wait for her. How damn sick is that to even consider asking Bobby to wait till Mark dies then they could be together. Life was complicated in places where it should be so easy. You'd think when two people are madly, passionately in love with each other that the easiest thing in the world would be for them to be together. Not so. At least not in her world.
She heard Mark stirring and turned and went back to bed. She climbed in next to him and pulled the covers up. "Pam? You alright?" He asked. She turned and kissed him sweetly. "Yes Mark. I'm fine. Go back to sleep." She snuggled in next to him but he knew her mind was on him, Bobby Ewing. And she knew that he knew. Mark never said another word. He just held her a little closer and prayed that somehow she had the courage to go through with marrying him even though her heart was at Southfork with Bobby. It was hell to love a woman so much.
