Well, things seem to be moving along like normal now. Phew!! I was going through withdrawals.
Hi Jessie! Ready for Big Brother tomorrow? I wonder who Kalia will put on the block? I hope its Shelly! Who do you want to come back? I'm hoping its Dominic.
M&K--Love the birdie pics!!
Mel--After battling my conscience for close to a year, I finally broke down and bought all the rest of Peyton Place. I just keep hearing people rave about how amazing it is and decided I had to see it. Now I have to get busy and watch the second set of officially released DVDs.
Ome--Besides Waterloo Road, I also purchased the first season of Battlestar Galactica. My friend has been watching it and loving it. I read somewhere that you were watching it too.
Kev--I hope you have a pleasant visit with the in-laws tomorrow.
Rose--In case I forget to say it later, I hope you have a wonderful visit with your son.
On the subject of Americanisms that have crossed the pond, someone on Corrie mentioned "pleading the fifth" the other day. I found that interesting.
On the subject of Britishisms (Corrie style) that I imagine will NEVER cross the pond to America, the term "dozy mare" has been used more than once on Corrie. It makes me laugh. I don't know what dozy means exactly but the entire term feels vaguely old fashioned and misogynistic whenever I hear it. (It seems like it is always directed at a woman anyways.) I think I might try it out at work next week. ( "What!?! You jammed the copy machine again you dozy mare?!?!") I'm not sure I can pull it off though.
Ok, I'm going to turn in for the evening, but first, I've always liked Matt Damon, but now I LOVE him. Watch this:
Yes, the site has had some down time and some sluggish-time too... Thank you, Laura..
Oh, I love that you've found more Britishisms... "Dozy Mare" would always be directed at a woman. "Mare" being a female horse... A more gentle phrase than "Stupid Cow"
It's good to see you all well and chatting away like right little chatterboxes as usual.
So there's been downtime? Again? Ah...I doubt Admin haven't paid the electricty meter again
I don't have time to go through all the posts that have been made since I was last online but I noticed Jason's comment from 2 posts ago that he had purchased Waterloo Road. All I can say is "yay"!!!
You're going to love this series Jase. It's far and away the best piece of drama on British television at the moment. If you like all our God awful soaps then you should enjoy this. Granted it's faster moving than any of the soaps or BAFTA style dramas so you perhaps don't get the same depth as you would from the likes of EastEnders for example which has prolonged scenes and two handed installments for it's core characters. It's also not as hard hitting as Brookside or Skins amongst dozens of others that I could mention. But it's fun, pacy, exciting - with lots of 'blink and you miss it' material and it still does cover issue based storylines such as drugs, teen pregnancies, sexually confused teenagers etc. Plus for someone who seems fascinated with the British education system, you should enjoy all the references to GCSE's and other sorts of educational terminology and it does provide a snapshot of life in a British Secondary School. Therefore I really really hope you have fun with this purchase.
Anyway I'm off now to upload this week's Fantasy Knots Landing which is 3 days overdue. What with playing at that wedding on Friday night (which went amazingly well), staying at Laura's yesterday and having to be fitted for a tuxedo on Thursday night (our band's attire), I've not had a chance to get online the last few days. Therefore apologies to those of you who read FKL for the delay. Still, the BBC used to take Knots Landing off the air anytime they damn well pleased so my shoddy treatment of FKL is still minimal.
"Body of Proof" is shown on "Alibi" (Sky TV Channel) Tuesday nights at 9pm. (Next weeks episode is No. 4) She plays Dr. Megan Hunt. Medical Examiner in Philadelphia. Former Neuro Surgeon who can no longer operate as she was in a car accident which left her without full dexterity of her hands. Now does Post Mortem for homicide victims. She has a 12 year old daughter (Lacey) with whom she has a troubled relationship since her divorce. (Father has custody). it's good. Very entertaining and she is a delight to watch.
Bah! I can't get it. It sounds great though. Hopefully it makes it onto non-Sky channels sometime soon.
I can definitely relate to it though: I've lost some dexterity, as my left wrist has swollen to twice it's size, and is quite painful. I went to the minor injuries unit yesterday (it started on Friday night), but they didn't know exactly what's wrong. I was told to take some paracetamol and put a bag of frozen peas on it.
Technically, I probably shouldn't be on here typing, but what are you going to do?!

Oh - they are just beautiful M&Kfan.
Tweety looks very similar to the Budgie I had when I was young. His name was Billy, and he had the same colours.
And Corey is stunning. What an unusual and attractive colour he is. He is just gorgeous.

Oh - lucky you!!! J - I would have no qualms about it at all. It doesn't look like they are planning to release any further volumes (which is a crime against good television). I'd even get it myself if I ever got my head round iOffer, or found it on eBay.
PP is right up there with Knots and Dallas for me as fantastic drama, and watching the dvds last year, it's even better than I remembered. Enjoy!!

You're right J - there are definite misogynistic undertones to the phrase, for the reasons Kev pointed out.
I haven't looked up the definition, but "dozy" to me means sleepy, slow or sluggish (relating to how the brain works). So it's best used judiciously.
I really would love to hear you having a go at using it though.

Sleep tight, Sir.
K.
Ah, yes--"stupid cow" is another one that I have heard more than a few times on the British soaps. I'm sorry that your family visit had to be cancelled and I hope the weather improves for you soon.
Mel--That's so strange about your wrist. I hope that the pain is gone soon. It's frustrating that the doctors can't figure out what is going on. In answer to your question, I write with my right hand. However, most everything else, particularly sports related stuff like throwing a ball, batting, bowling, shooting a basketball, I do with my left hand. Do you guys have the term "southpaw" over there?
Rose--Tomorrow is the official first day of school for me. The students return tomorrow. My partner teacher and I were talking the other day about how after teaching for so many years (this is my 16th year) we still get nervous about the first day of school. It seems silly but I guess it never goes away for me. It must be fear of the unknown. Do you ever get nervous about your first day of the school year?
Knots Man--Thanks for the information about Waterloo Road. I am really excited to start watching it. I've noticed that several actors that I like from the British soaps have been on WR as well, so it will be fun to see them in different roles. The whole concept seems right up my alley for a number of reasons. I know I'm going to love it. I just hope all of you are prepared to be barraged with British school system related questions. Hopefully I will learn some new British teen slang. I learned a lot from Skins. I'm glad to hear your first performance went well on Friday.
Rose: Some Emmerdale comments--I hate how Paddy and Rhona are pushing Aaron out of Paddy's house and I REALLY hate how mean Aaron is being to Hazel. My heart just breaks for Hazel when I think about all that she has been through. I hope she and Aaron can work things out eventually. I enjoyed the drama this week with Layla, Alicia, David and Jacob. Poor David. That kid who plays Jacob is adorable.

I don't think Paddy is pushing him out, but he is going along Rhona. I know it is hard to watch how he is with Hazel, but I think that is because he feels guilty.
I am sure they will be able to sort things out eventually.
Yes the storyline with Layla, Alicia, David and Jacob has been great, and yes the boy who plays Jacob is gorgeous.
Jase, it's great to read you have Waterloo Road and Battlestar, they're both fantastic dramas. A phrase often used on Waterloo Road is "Wind ya neck in". Oh I just know how much you're going to fall in love with that show. The Matt Damon clip was great, I loved how he stuck up for the teachers out there and that he asked the cam,era man if he was crap at his job. Brilliant. Hope the new school term goes well for you.
Mel I hope that wrist is sorted by the time you read this post. It's times like these we are reminded of how much we use some body parts. It must be very painful if you knock it against a wall, not that I'm saying you're a wall basher.... I'm right-handed however both Wifey and Lil' Ome are left-handed.
Kev I hope the weather has improved for you up there, how disappointing that it ruined an evening with your in-laws.
Rose have a fab time when you go to stay with your son.
Knots Man I'm pleased to read Friday night went well.
Thanks for the good holiday wishes, we leave tomorrow afternoon and now I can go to sleep with the knowledge that we have everything sorted.... Just the pets to be taken to their holiday home for the next couple of weeks.
hi guys. how is everybody?
i almost didnt recognize the forum. gosh it look so good!! whoever is responsible did a great job. i like the new look!
anyway, i hope everyone is having a great sunday. it's monday over here! and it's raining endlessly. but thankfully, no typhoon this week.
i just got home yesterday from my sister's house near the mountains. i've spent a week there and i really had fun spending time with my niece. :P
anyway, how's the weather in your side of the world? i hope it's sunny and nice.
Thanks for all the positive thoughts regarding my first day of school. I think its going to be a good year.
Ome--I can't wait to get started with Waterloo. I have a feeling I will be ordering seasons 4-6 in no time. I'll be listening for "wind ya neck in."
Rose and Ome: Some Corrie comments: I thought Monday and Thursday's episodes were fantastic. I haven't seen Friday yet. I love it when Nick, Gail and David are a focus. I thought the competition between Becky and Gail for the job was funny and I love that Becky is mixing it up with Nick and Gail. I like how David is so concerned about little Maxie. I think there is great potential with Tommy, Tina and Tyrone all living under one roof. And I can't wait to get further into Chris' story. I really like that actor. I'm not really liking Amber much but then I really don't care much for Dev either. I like Sunita though.
I wonder what's wrong with your wrist, Mel'ster ?? I hope you're not in a lot of pain ?
Thanks Kev. It looks much better now, and is a lot less painful. I was told to keep it raised above heart level, so yesterday I was walking round Bristol centre with my arm across my chest, and my left hand on my right shoulder. I probably looked like a refugee from Madonna's Vogue video.
Sorry to hear Stu'z family weren't able to get to you. What a disappointment. I hope you get to see them properly soon, and I also hope things improve weather wise.

Again Knots is my frame of reference because the first time I remember hearing this term was in a Season Six episode (shown here in late '88) when Karen as brushing her hair with her left hand (she had symptoms which indicated death was imminent during her post-shooting quasi-terminal illness) Mack asked her when she became a southpaw.
I don't remember every hearing it before then, and I haven't heard it too much since then either.
I'm pretty much the mirror image of you then J. While I write with - and hold my toothbrush or scissors in - my left hand, I think I would do some other things the right handed way. There doesn't seem to be any rhyme or reason to it though.
You have a great attitude towards the start of the new school year. I always enjoy hearing from you about it. Enjoy the first official day.

Awwww, bless them. That's the downside to holidays. It's never enjoyable to leave our little furry friends behind. But it's a holiday for them too. The best part is that Millie and Boots have each other's company wherever they go, so I'm sure that makes things a bit easier for them.

Hi Winklet. The mountains sound beautiful. What a nice break for you. It's lovely to catch up with family, and to see how the little ones are growing. It's nice to see you back here.
We've had some rain over the weekend. I can't even tell you how many towels we've gone through. Every time there's a hint of the rain stopping, Oscar has been outside, only to return a short while later absolutely drenched. Today has been dry so far. We've had a really beautiful sky so far today - bronze-grey and white clouds with the sky changing from orange to blue.
Have a lovely start to the week, one and all.
And Ome, I'll miss seeing you, but have a fantastic holiday. Here's a little song for you to sing on the aeroplane:
