Default Would Dallas have been the same if PD was JR ?

I always thought that Bobby had the potential to a real good bad guy, lets face it he could use his fists and he was afaid of no-one. Imagine if the script was written differently and Bobby was the bad younger Brother and Larry Hagman as JR, the good older Brother.
It would have been a whole different show, but somehow I feel that it might have worked

You´re right, Patrick would probably be a great "J.R" - but not as good as Larry! ) (as well as Larry wouldn´t be as good "Bobby" as Patrick...).

"vice versa" would only have worked if they went ahead & done that angle when bobby came back in the shower "instead of the dreaded dream" and then it would have breath new life into the show & would have been @ least kept the most of the "street cred" it had and only lost a few hundrew or so viewers instead of the millions that switched of after the dream and the following year pam leaving & meant the last 3 painful years would have been better, the rating would have been better which would have meant more cash and less sackings or cutbacks or bad actors in later seasons etc!
then they switch them around again a few years later with bobbys good again and then JR evil for the last season or so

how to explain bobby being evil without being a twin, its easy!! the head injury(concussion) after getting mowed down made him tap into "the dark side" of the ewing family!!

    There are 2 questions :
What if Bobby had been a bad guy ? and What if Duffy had been the villain ? I have no answer.
But I'm convince that Patrick Duffy should plays dark characters now...

I dont think that Patrick would have been as good as JR somehow - As much as I love and adore Patrick I do think that Larry was a more versatile actor - he was born to play JR

Both are excellent actors and Patrick Duffy would probably have brought a more physical aspect to the character of JR. But ultimately you have to say that the role was Larry's and no-one else's.

its hard to think of patrick playing jr because larry has made the role legendary i dont see patrick as jr, he might could do it but the charisma and the well known smile of larry makes him in my opinion the one and only jr

I'm sure Patrick Bobby could play a bad guy and Larry JR could play a good character as he did on other shows.. I just can't imagine now watching the show Patrick playing a bad guy like JR did... Larry was the guy we all loved to hate...We loved Bobby the good brother who was the good guy ..

Dallas wouldnt have been the huge hit it was if it didnt have Larry as JR, aand would never have lasted as long.

I can't picture anyone else playing J.R then Larry BUT if Patrick played him we would be used to that, and then we'll be saying, "i don't think Larry could play J.R" ..

It all depends on how much an actor can bring to a character and although PD is a very fine actor, I don't believe anyone could portray JR the way Larry did.

I think Dallas was perfect the way it was.
All actors and actresse were perfect in you carachter.

    For example
It had only one Mrs Ellen
if Jock or Pamela had another actor or actress after the originals ones it didn' t work.

I think JR would have been the main character anyway, because as much as I like Patrick Duffy, the fact is that Larry Hagman turned what was going to be a supporting character into the main character, so we would have liked the good guy instead of the bad guy.

But perhaps that was easier to do with the character of JR, where there was so much to explore.

I'm sure there are a lot of actors that could have played JR well. But Larry Hagman played JR perfectly.

Post Dream Season, I wouldn't have like Bobby coming back as a villian.

I agree, I don't think that would have worked at all.

Larry was the perfect actor for the role of JR. Patrick could easily play a dark character, but Larry as the good guy would be a waste of talent IMO!
