Default Ginger and Kenny - What Went Wrong In The End? :P

In Back To The Cul De Sac, it's mentioned that Ginger and Kenny are now split. So what do you think went wrong in the end off screen?

    1. Did Kenny go back to his old ways which he appeared to have left behind after they had Erin Molly?
    2. Did Ging do the dirty on him?
    3. Something else (be as off-the-wall as you want)

Let's do some guessing on this... should be fun.

I'm thinking it started with Kenny cheating on Ginger again, after which, Ginger left him for another man who proved to be much better in the sack.

The primetime soaps rarely brought characters back for extended stays, but I thought Ginger was a good candidate for that. With Laura gone, they could have divorced Ginger move back into town and see what happens from that. It's much easier than introducing a new character because she already had strong bonds with Karen and Valene. I missed having a third party because that false Karen/Val relationship was pushed on us.

Jim Houghton is a good actor, but he wasn't given much to do as Kenny. I always thought it would be a great idea to have Kristen stay in Knots Landing along with Kenny's baby. Dallas wasted her and Knots could another devious character. Abby actually had a conscience, but Kristen could do more of the dirty work. Definitely would've put Kenny and Ginger on the map, as with Knots by having another Dallas character join the cast.

Oh how I loved Ginger. I really enjoyed her character and thought that Kim Lankford who played her was simply stunning. I could always take or leave Kenny but I always felt it was a real shame more wasn't made of Gingers character. I believe that the couple should have divorced, Kenny move away and Ginger go on to more intriguing things in her life.

Towards the end of series 4 we really started to see another side of Ginger. There was always a frustrated singer/performer in her and I feel she blamed Kenny for supressing this in her somewhat. I feel Ginger yearned for drama and excitement and yet knew her responsibilities as mother and wife had to come first.

I loved the couple of scenes where Ginger ran into C.G and the confrontations they had. Again, I enjoyed this fiesty side of Ginger that we should have seen more of.

They were sweet, but I didn't miss them for a second.

I missed Ginger, but not Kenny. I would have liked to have seen Kristen cause havoc in KL too! Also, I would have liked to have seen Ginger raise Erin-Molly as a single mother if Kenny had to go.

Kim Lankford has said that it was James Houghton who wanted to leave and that she wanted Ginger to go on as a single mother. The problem I see is that that would have duplicated Laura's situation but bringing her back in the later years would have been a good idea. I think they went too far with the whole Mackenzie/Sumner/Matheson crowd that was brought in at the expense of building on the existing history.

Really? Houghton wanted to go then? Thanks for the info, Seaviewer.
I would have loved to see Ginger continue as a single mother still.

Ginger, herself, was okay. I didn't really have a problem with her. Kenny, however, dragged down Ginger, so when they leave at the end of Season 4, I really don't care.

I think I prefer Kenny to Ginger.

He could have been an interesting character if they'd done more with him. Ging, on the other hand, while being more interesting in some ways... was annoying. All she did was moan.

I don't think he particularly wanted to leave. I always just thought the writers wanted to change the show and make it more glitzy and getting rid of Richard, Kenny and Ginger was a step in the right direction. They didn't really fit in with the way they wanted it to go and they were replaced pretty quickly by Ben and Greg and you could probably say Lisa Hartman's return as Cathy was replacing the female cast member they'd got rid of.

As someone mentioned before, if Knots was on today more of the action would probably be centred around Kenny and Ginger cos the main characters in soaps are generally younger now... but back at that time it was older cast members that got the most attention. Also the teens didn't play the big part they do now. My guess is that if Knots was starting now, the Fairgate teens as well as Ginger's sisters and Lucy would probably all have major parts in it.

It's funny how soaps have evolved eh?

I just wanted to point out that I totally love your ideas and it would've been so interesting to see if they could've done that instead

Ginger and Kenny were a cute couple, but ultimately they just didn't fit in the whole scheme of things
I was glad that Ginger finally ditched Kenny in the Reunion and became a strong independent woman
