    Icon7 Wes Parmlee

Just watching Dallas repeats on TV just now and would be most obliged if someone could tell me if it turned out that Wes Parmlee was in fact Jock or was he a fraud.

Wes Parmlee was not Jock, he just knew a lot of things that Jock also knew.

You have to say that Steve Forrest did a good job with the character, though.

It was never truly settled to my satisfaction - or Clayton's. We still have threads on the forum debating the point.

The story line ended with him telling Miss Ellie he wasn't Jock and at the same time, Bobby found his true identity in South America. However, I always wondered if he really was Jock and walked away so as not to cause Miss Ellie further pain? This is another of those open ended story lines that really doesn't make sense. This man had the exact same x-rays as Jock. How unlikely is that? I suspect and again this is just my opinion that they were going to have him be Jock then changed thier minds midway through and gave us a lame ending.

I always thought Wes wasn't Jock, because all through the series you got the feeling Jock was a fighter, and for him to just sink away like that. Just seemed out of character. Like that scene when Bobby tells Jock that Gary is getting married.

Jock: When I found out Gary didn't have any guts it broke my heart.

Yes, I agree. If he had truly been Jock, would he really for one second meekly given up everything he had worked for and Miss Ellie and the family as well?

It was better all round that he wasn't Jock, though. Jim Davis's portrayal was too strong for anyone to have competed against.

I agree, and I was hoping like anything that the writers were not going to cast him as Jock. The one thing I do feel sort of cheated by is that we did not see Wes tell Miss Ellie that he was an imposter. I really would have liked to have been privy to that conversation.

The problem with this storyline was the obvious shift the writers took. When it started Wes was going to be Jock but then the writers changed their minds so it was never going to be finished to a viewers satisfaction.

I agree that it would have been interesting to see how Miss Ellie would have reacted had we seen Parmalee admit to being an imposter.

If Bobby found out in South America that Wes was Jock, I think he would have gone after him and brought him back to Southfork.

Originally Wes was going to be Jock but with Bobby coming back the producers thought two major characters coming back from the dead at once would have been too much.

I still think he was going to be Jock but then they changed thier minds and changed the storyline because nobody would have accepted it. Jim Davis is Jock. Writers do what they want to do and since this is not real life, they make charectrer changes all time but some things we just won't stand for and I am glad they realized that and decided to end this particular story line and leave it alone. Long Live Jim Davis.

Bobby never found any proof that he wasn't Jock. All he found was there was another person Parmalee could have been. I think it's entirely possible that Jock loved Miss Ellie enough to leave her with Clayton to end her suffering. A simple DNA test would have settled it but for some unknown reason (ie the writers) nobody ever thought of it.

I loved this character, each week I remember watching as he slowly got closer to Miss Ellie, and on my mind would be 'is it Jock? or 'Who is he, what does he want ?'

I'm not sure about that one, Jock was no quitter. The real Jock wouldn't have given up without a fight.

Don't forget...the producer was going to have Wes be Jock, until they brought Bobby 'back from the dead'. They rightly assumed bringing 2 back from the dead was just toooooo much.

Instead, they brought back Bobby the only way they could...quick-and dirty-get-it-over-with-and-go-back-to-the-old-Dallas, and made Wes NOT Jock.

The "real Jock" loved his family and he could see the pain his return would cause. Wes leaving like he did was a very Jock-like thing to do not to mention the mystery of what he told Ellie before he left.
