She recently fired Ed Scott, Melody Thomas Scott's husband and replaced him with another friend of hers. I wonder if he was let to go help pay her husband contract (which is said to be huge).

BTW, the last time Ed Scott was fired Melody almost left the show. We'll have to wait and see what happens this time.

My guess is that if LML as much as suspects Melody Thomas Scott is about to jump ship, she'll have Nikki die a horrible and gruesome death.

I know this is a Y&R thread, but don't forget about GL! (even though it didn't deserve it for this past year)

Well, to be honest, I thought that LML was doing a good job (even though I didn't like that it was plot-driven) up until, say, December of 2006. Then, it is Ashley's exit and the rest that made the show tank.

So, congrats Y&R and may you get rid of LML!

Btw, I am SHOCKED that GUIDING LIGHT got the Emmy! I mean, did it REALLY deserve it? Or does 70-year-anniversary speak VOLUMES?

I think GL had to have won out of honor for it's 70th anniversary. I mean, who can stomach a full hour of that show? By or before the opening credits, I've turned GL off.

Now, GL isn't THAT bad, but it being one of my soaps, I know that it most certainly did not deserve the best show award (or best writing, for that matter).

Y&R earned Outstanding Drama. But OLTL should have won. Even it's montage was the best out of any of the nominated shows.

OLTL did have the most impressive montage, I will definitely agree with that.

Very nice episode. It opens with Nick wearing one of those hideous Hawaiian shirts. Nick tells Sharon that he set up an interview for the potential new manager of Crimson Lights 2 for this evening. Sharon squirms when she hears it's a she, but not in the melodramatic, soapish way, but how one is accustomed to in real life. John Silva interrupts and surprises them with Cassie's adoption papers.

Kristin stops by Nina's place before she goes to the party and I remember how much I loved this Nina/Thomas Storyline. It wasn't about affairs. It wasn't about lying, manipulating or anything like that. It was about two lonely, talented writers who found each other but things weren't always shiny and marshmellowy. Thomas helped Nina start her writing career, but found himself fighting with his own jealously when he couldn't write and Nina was becoming better than him. Ultimately, it broke them up. Such a wonderful, wonderful, sweet storyline. Anyway, today Nina is bothered because she needs time to devote to her writing; nevertheless, Thomas barges in constantly, and she also has her kid to take care of. Then, Kristin tells Nina that it will be uncomfortable with Nick and Sharon, now that she's left the adoption business to side with the devil himself, Michael Baldwin. Nina tells her it's time that they accepted it.

Jill is her usual bitchy self to Kathryn and the fabulous Mac walks in. Kay has not been able to get hold of Lauren Fenmore, which means that Mac will not be able to get a fabulous dress for the prom. I know! A fabulous dress? For Mac? And, yet, the way it is written, it makes sense why Mac would be just a little disappointed. Anyway, Esther walks in and of course Lauren called yesterday but Esther barely heard something about a "time difference." When Jill comes in, Esther tells her Lauren is nowhere to be found and Jill is glad to hear that. Later on, Mac answers the doorbell and we are tricked into thinking it's Lauren! Nope, it's Brittany, in her early, ultra-bitchy days. She brought two of her dresses so that Jill can choose. Jill, who wants the Glow by Jabot girl to... glow, tells her to try them on but they'll also be going to L.A., to Rodeo Drive. The doorbell rings once again and, this time, it IS Lauren! Jill becomes LIVID when she sees Lauren and all the dresses that she brought for Paris, merci. This is so funny. They have purposefully put "dramatic" music in these scenes, which makes it all the more funny and ironic.

Sharon, Nick and John Silva meet Nikki and Cassie at the Main House and Nick lets Nikki know about the adoption, and that Kristin is working with Michael now. Just as Nikki is about to puke, Paul walks in and realizes that he interrupted something. As everyone proceeds to the back--fake--garden, Paul asks Nick to stay behind: "Look, man, if you have some kind of problem with my wife, just let me know." Or something like that. Anyway, Sharon comes in and explains that they DO want Kristin there. At the back yard, Cassie is very excited with the presents she's getting. Grandma Doris arrives and later on Kristin. After an awkward conversation with Nick and Sharon, Kristin says that it went better than she thought. Sharon says that she just doesn't want Michael to get involved in this. But the adoption party has even more drama when Alice and Milly arrive. However, everyone ooh's and aahhh's when Alice gives Cassie a photo album with baby pictures of Cassie and Sharon and Alice hug. Then, Alice overhears Nikki telling Paul that she can't believe Kristin would actually go work with Michael.

Michael finds Mary at the restaurant, having dinner with a church friend. After her friend (Dennis) leaves, Michael sits with a frowning Mary and asks that he gives her money to pray for him!!! That's Michael for you! Mary refuses and they end up talking about how he has been behaving with Kristin and that that's good. When Mary suggests that Michael goes to church, he laughs.

Nina goes by Thomas's apartment and he goes off on her. Realizing that having his girlfriend visit him is not such a terrible thing after all, he apologizes, kisses her. Next thing you know, the sex is already over and Nina announces she'll be leaving. Thomas, seeing through her: "I can easily leave his apartment, but I can't easily have him leave mine" plan, he confronts her about it! Mini-Cliffhanger!

John says goodbye to Kristin, who is talking to the phone inside the house, and Kristin helps herself to some punch, when Alice comes in. She asks Kristin about the working with Michael thing and, as Sharon walks in, mentions that's why Michael called her. Sharon is SHOCKED: "Wait, Michael called you? Kristin, you said you would keep him out of this! How can I ever trust you again after this?"

I LOVED the scenes with Michael Baldwin and Mary Williams!

Also, thanks for the review - I never missed an episode of Y&R back in 2000, it was a great year for the show. Actually, 1998 - 2002 was when the show was top notch!

    Hi,
This is just an enquiry, because the only soaps i've seen here in England, are your TOP exports, like DALLAS, Knots Landing, Dynasty, etc.
I actually won a competition in a nat, newspaper in 1984, and as 1st prize, came to your Hilton Hotel, in Dallas.
I spent my 24th birthday in Dallas, and was given a tour of "all things JR/Dallas" as part of my prize!
In my hotel room, the T.V. had LOADS of channels, seperated into , music, soaps, cartoons, etc.....i was gobsmacked.
We only had 3 chans back home.
I watched a soap which i thought i remembered as The Young and The Restless.....from your posts it seems, its still going.
Am i remembering correctly????Has it been going all this time???

Yes, THE YOUNG AND THE RESTLESS has been going on since 1973 and it's not even the longest running soap that we have here. That honour goes to GUIDING LIGHT, which debuted on radio on 1937 and then continued on TV from 1952.

I don't know if it's just me, but Y&R is far more interesting this past couple of weeks. It's not nearly as boring as it has resulted to being these last few months.

Still, have some things to pick on:

Lynn Marie Latham: If you dare write Michelle Stafford out of the show, if you even dare, I will send you such a strong curse that you will find your pubic hair growing a mile per minute--indefinetely! 6 YEARS? SIX FU**ING YEARS? ARE YOU KIDDING ME?

I don't care if you change it with a last minute twist, but if Phyllis is gone for good, I'm gone too. DO YOU HEAR ME LATHAM? If you write out one more character, Y&R is as good as dead for me.

(well, I'll sneak a peek or two)

Seriously, I doubt that she would have the gull to really keep Phyllis away for six years, but I will not take more than 2 or 3 months if it is so necessary for Phyllis to be out of sight. Just to make it a little realistic. LML can't honestly write her out after an Emmy nom, can she? Oh, yes she can!!!

Also, Ji Min and Jill spent 90% of their relationship off screen. Do they honestly believe that that is enough to make us care for them? The only reason I might care just a little is because Jess Walton is just so amazing.

Hate how Nikki Newman has been turned into such a terrible bitch, when that is completely out of character! Yes, Nikki was prone to a couple of bitchy comments every now and then, when the situation called for it, but all she does is bitch, bitch, bitch! Worse character assassination EVER!

And, yes writers, as much as you try to make Sharon and Jack work, it ain't happening. And you know why? Because you never took the time to develop it at all at the first place--it doesn't have a base, it crumples, simple as that. Just like the Paul/Maggie, Neil/Karen, Logan/Brad, Ji Min/Jill relationships? Do you even realize that all the relationships LML has created are simply non-important?

Oh, and Neil remembers Dru is dead just in time for Phyllis's trial. How dramatically convenient!

Amber? Forget about it! In less than a year, she is the winner of Second Worse Worse Character Assassination.

Victor is 3rd, as he would never, EVER try to destroy Nikki.

On the other hand, I love the irony of the Kevin/Jana Storyline. That and Michelle Stafford's perfomances is what has kept me watching. Her apology at the court house was truly, truly heartbreaking.

I actually think the show is even more boring right now. I'm so sick of all of this Phyllis propping. She's never been a good mother or a good person and NO ONE is picking on her. I'm so sick of thise woe is me act.

My main interest is in Jill and Ji Min (he's been fired), although like you said, the majority of it is off screen. Jess Walton can rock anything they hand her. I wish they'd give her more to do, but I doubt that will ever happen.

My biggest dislike is the horrible new Colleen, ruining Devon by having him fall for Lily and Jana's return. I *loved* Jana last year, but it's not working for me now. This is one sick and twisted couple and I feel no sympathy for them. I wish they'd just write her off and take Not!Colleen with her.

A few comments about the above:

The show has been pretty good recently and a lot of it has to do with Phyillis's trial. It has been well acted and very watchable. Michelle Stafford has been great. I highly doubt the character will be sent to jail for 6 years. Isn't is nice that a soap character is getting in trouble for blackmail?

JiMen and Jill - I really liked them as a couple. I don't understand why the show is pairing a newbie with a veteran and then discarding the couple???? How about more David/Nikki, and Maggie/Paul!!!

Nikki - she has been a bitch before - it comes and goes. Remember how she treated Diane when she was engaged to Victor and she announced how she was going to have a baby with her then hubby Josh knowing that Diane would not have Victor's? She also treated Sharon badly throughout the years...

Amber - I don't recall her being any different on Y&R than B&B...just that she is more annoying on Y&R, hopefully her stint will be over soon

Victor - he'd destroyed Nikki...remember he is ruthless and he has treated Nikki poorly before (he berated her for her relationship with Brad but he was smooching Ramona - I think that was her name)

Anyway...I guess Y&R remains a mixed bag for me but I am enjoying it for the most part -

I found today's episode really good, far more enjoyable than, say, the crap with Bonacheck (seriously, Bonacheck? ).

Suddenly, the Amber/Carson/Money Storyline seems to work just fine, when tied into another storyline. And that actor who plays Carson is a pretty charming fella. The confrontation between Katherine and Jack was top stuff:

Jack: Katherine? Hey, what a lovely outfit.

Kay: Save your compliments. I'm looking for Cane.

Jack: I haven't seen him. What's got you so riled up?

Kay: Oh, by the way, fair warning, now if that story breaks about your ownership of Jabot, I swear, I'm gonna hold an interview of my own. "I never, for one moment, knew he owned the company, Your Honor! I'm a victim of deceit!"

Jack: Katherine, Katherine, just calm down. That was just business.

Kay: The facts are going to speak for me, Jack! Now I bought that company from Ji Min! And he--maybe he handed the money over to you, but that becomes your collusion, certainly not mine.

Jack: Can we just step into my office so we don't tell the whole building about this?

Kay: I don't care! I really don't care who hears me anymore.

    Jack: Katherine--

Kay: I'm sick and tired of dancing around the facts!

Jack: None of this would be an issue if you hadn't forced me to sign off on any involvement in my family's company.

    Kay: I saved that company!

Jack: Don't play all holier than thou with me. I'm the guy you robbed when I had to sell Jabot back to you, remember? Now you're not really gonna try to play the "I don't know' card. There's any number of people, your daughter included, who would call you out on that.

Kay: Don't-- leave her out of this. Just leave her out of this.

Jack: If you think you can get away with telling them you don't know, you're more senile than I thought.

Kay: Don't you ever, ever, ever refer to me in that manner again!

Jeanne Cooper is such a legend. The scene with Katherine and Cane later just solidified Cane's (and Daniel Gooddard's) place in my heart. Not because it was something special, but because it reassured me that I haven't been dreaming. From all the new characters that LML has introduced in her Reign of Terror, Cane (and, again, Daniel Gooddard) hit gold. Pure Gold. And I guess it doesn't hurt that Gooddard has been spending most of his time with Walton, Cooper and Frantz (don't roll your eyes, Amber haters, Adrienne Frantz still is a terrific actress. That's why I haven't went to Genoa City to kill Amber yet.)

Victor finds out that Jack is behind the cancellation of the Granville Global contracts, but I'm not gonna lie and say that I remember what the hell that is. The moment where Victor runs into Sharon while looking for Jack was completely electrifying. Eric Braeden really worked his magic on that scene. The confrontation with Jack... well, if it lasted longer than 35 seconds it would have been better.

LOVED the fact that Jack bought Ji Min's land to blackmail him out of the interview. Classic twist, delivered by Jack Abbott with lime.

Michelle Stafford kept delivering top perfomances as Summer gets an infection. Of course, the hospital count these last few months is frightening, but who cares, it's just a baby. Phyllis is then arrested and you can see where this is going: The Rock Territory.

The scenes with Nikki and David were once again nice, and David suggested that Nikki start thinking of a divorce. Sexy.

Jill walking in to see her love dead was not as strong as I thought. The murder thingy was once again nicely set (Cane's threat of Ji Min was uncomfortable, Daniel Gooddard obviously has some more stuff to learn), giving all the appropriate people reason to do it and proof tracing them to the murder. Jack, Amber, Carson and Cane will probably all be suspects but I hope Carson did it, I don't want to part with any of them. Well, maybe Amber, another hunk can't hurt Genoa City. But Amber was way too terrified to have done it. Or DID she? Anyway, the whole Cliffhanger was spoiled by that metal music playing on the soundtrack. Um, hello? We stupid US Soap fans would love some stupid US Soap melodramatic music or, at the very least, a MELROSE PLACE-esque rocky dababoum!. NOT that.

But, I gotta say it, and prepare for a LML compliment, everyone (I know): No matter how much I don't agree with what her vision of Y&R is, LML and her team are good writers (especially concerning dialogue) and, at the very least, they're not bored of coming up with a couple of extra scenes, a few more motives, two-three twists, etc. The murder mystery could have been done a lot worse and I'm looking at YOU other US Stupid Soaps.

Thanks to www.restless-passions.com for the dialogue

Yes, the whole week trial was exquisite, well-written, well-put together and Michelle Stafford.... Aw, what a Goddess! But, you're right, it's been great that soap characters finally get to pay for blackmailing someone else. It has kinda become a daily thing: "Do this, or I'll do that!" or "Don't do this, cos I'll do that!" Now, I guess they will be a little more careful.

All of the above couples, I like. But, my problem is that you can't have them show up twice a month, for 3 minutes each time and then, suddenly, "Oh, I love you!" "Marry me!" "I care for you" and all that B.S.! But, I guess LML has to develop her one million business/murder/trial/hospitalized storylines.

Oh, yes, granted, Nikki has been/can be a bitch. But, it is either entertaining or plain "Why the hell is she acting this way?" territory. And, with LML, it's obviously the second. Bitchy because the storyline calls for it? Fine. Bitchy because for 9 months she had no stoyline? C'MON! Again, all this is LML's fault, not yours

Yes, Amber would always make wrong choices and would always be *stupid* but her character was entertaining. Again, it all comes down to writing: Amber is a very difficult and complex character to write for and, if not careful, can turn very, very annoying, which is what Amber is now.

Yes, Victor has been self-centered and he was off kissing Ramona and all BUT... Nikki is the love of his life. He may have treated her poorly and maybe you're right, maybe he would do this to her, if he were angry enough. I only wish it was better done.

Y&R has been a mixed bag for me for months. No matter how good the writing may be, you still can't compare it to 1998-2002, or the Bell years and, hell, why not, 2003 until LML took over.

OK, my LML-appreciating moments are over.

    POLL OF THE WEEK

Did you feel anything, any sad feeling because of Ji Min's death?

    Yes?

    No?

Despite poor Jess Walton's great efforts, this has been Y&R's 10000th death in what feels two days and I have had enough. Too many deaths, too many murders, too many accidents, too many, too many, too many, stop it stop it stop it ENOUGH! Y&R (apart from the occassional episode) has really been bereft of any kind of feeling-inducing storyline and I can't take it anymore! If it weren't for the cast, who is trying its damndest to make this work, this show would be completely down the drains.

    PLEASE STOP IT!!!!!!

I agree. My favorite time period on Y&R was 98-02, when Kay Alden took over. The show had great stories and while they did not move too fast they were not as slow paced as when Bill Bell was at the helm. It was a good mix of old style soap blending into a faster pace. I loved the show in the early and mid 90's but remember getting frustrated with how loooong stories took to unfold? Sometimes 2 to 3 years! Yet, I must say, I miss both the Bell and Alden times because LML moves stories at break neck pace the stories lose there impact.
