it's i think on dvd NOW. & it came out In (1936) she had to fight IF i am NOT mistaken to have "Bogie" in it. cause he also was in the stage play. or it may have been "Leslie Howard" who did the fighting. i think it WAS HIM. cause i think he was in the play as well. i NEVER did like the ending though to a GREAT film like"The Petrified Forest" or HOWEVER that's spelled? another classic is MY favorite film of her's (1940's) "The Letter" how about anyone else here?

I haven't seen "The Letter" yet,
but I loved her in "Hush Hush Sweet Chorelette,"
Apprently Joan Crawford dropped out of making this
film because she didn't want to work with Bette again.
It was her loss I guess.

More movies to add to my must see movies
Bette is great in All about Eve, just love those classy lines of
hers and it was Marilyn Monroe's first feature film too.
Sunset Blvd is great as well, a real dark film but a classic.

That was Gloria Swanson. An understandable mistake.

And now a bit of gossip about Bette Davis and Joan Collins.
Asked on the BBC who the "Hollywood Biggest Monster" was in her opinion, Joan replied "Bette Davis" (probably because she couldn't say "I am, darling."
) and she gave that 'behind the scenes' anecdote on the set of The Virgin Queen, which she relates in her autobiography 'Second Act'. In one scene, kneeling on her feet, Joan is supposed to lace up a satin bow on Bette's shoe:
'The first time I attempted the bow my fingers trembled so much that I couldn't do it up. Bette kicked out at me viciously and I went flying across the set, petticoats over my head. (...) Bette was furious with me, "Don't you even know how to do up a shoe?" she snarled. "Don't they teach you anything at those English drama schools? How can you possibly think that you could ever succeed as an actress, you little fool?" (...) When the assistant director summoned me back to the set, I was in combative mood as we began take two, but Miss Davis' foot suddenly developed a life of its own. It jumped, wiggled and twitched and I couldn't even hold the bow this time, let alone tie it. (...) On take three, I grabbed the Oscar-winner's ankle with both hands, jammed it between my knees and clenched them together so tightly that she couldn't move her foot. Bette shot vicious glances at me while she uttered her lines.'
About the Night of 100 Stars, Bette was so shocked by Joan's gold lamé dress that she called Nolan Miller the next day:
'"How the hell can you let that girl wear a dress as low-cut as that? It's disgusting. You could see everything she's got." "That's the whole point," Nolan answered calmly. "If you've got it these days, Bette dear, you have to flaunt it." "Huh," sniffed Bette, "never in my days, dear," and hung up on him.'
In her book, Joan also mentions what Marilyn Monroe thought of Bette. Marilyn, "That woman hates every female who can walk. She didn't talk to me at all, just sort of swept around the set, nose and cigarette in the air. I guess it was because I was only a bit-part player and she was the big star."
I bet nowadays bit-part players feel that way too when they work with Joan Collins!

Bette was a sweetheart,
as for Joan Crawford,
she never rubbed me the
right way.
Just something about her
that I couldn't stand, she
is a good actress, but not my
taste. See, I didn't know about the
strokes Stimpy, must have read alot about Bette

i'm guessing she COULD be when she wanted to. buut than her & Joan crawford could also be bitches when they wanted to be i guess. i dunno about joan crawford, buut bette davis, does in fact have people she worked with in the past say nice things about her. & than there's some that also says she could also be a bitch. i guess it just depends on whom ya ask. least that's my take on it ya know?

Blanche: "You wouldn't be able to do these awful things to me if I wasn't in this chair."
Jane: "But ya AAH Blanche, ya AAH in that chair!"
it's like Bette was living a fantasy in this movie.. she got to torture Joany.. pearler.. wonder what it was like on the set.

well she actually did kick her in that film & other things as well. hehe buut joan crawford got her back QUITE a few times as well. it's funny that 2 women who bette davis admired when she 1st started out & than later on they turned out to be eniemes. weird ain't it? bette davis may have gotten MORE awards for her acting. buut she did have MORE power & MORE hit movies than joan crawford did. which is prolly some of the reasons why they didn't get along. oh i'm sure there were OTHER"S ya know? buut that's prolly some of the reasons.

i'm NOT too good at quotes from old movies. just funny quotes from certain films i fell in love with growing up.
Of course 'All About Eve' and 'Now Voyager' are correct. I'll have to check out the other two though
