Tune into this tonight, see if there's any goss.

Don't forget to dish the dirt when you've seen it.
The problem is, aren't actors supposed to just say nice things until their final episode airs.
I know when Noele Gordon was sacked it was all niceness until her final episode went out, then after that she went on Russell Harty and let rip.
John Savident slated Corrie quite badly ages before he left. Quite surprised he had the guts really to say it was awful when he had to go back to work with the cast and crew there.

And then he gave it another roasting with back-up from Paul O'Grady when his final episode had aired.![]()
I can see Wendy being honest but I don't ever believe she would slag the show off.
I don't think i've ever seen her on a talk show before so i'm looking forward to it.
If i'm being honest i thought that was sh*t, Parky is sooo past it now, his show is crap. It was hardly a proper interview, oh and thank you wendy for telling us about paulines exit![]()

I watched it but never heard anything about her telling us how Pauline dies so why are people on DS making out she revealed the exit??
Did I miss a part of the interview?
Would it have been too much for EE to have left Pauline leave on a happy note, from what Ive been told the build up to her departure (re her connections with characters) has been interesting, almost final so it wouldnt have been seen as undramatic/boring to have left her live. There's nothing more boring in EE IMO then this constant misery that surrounds the characters.
I thought it was a great interview. Wendy came across as being really lovely.
I will miss Pauline and I still can't believe that she's going.I think it does help that she has been largely peripheral to the show in recent years as it means her departure won't be the huge loss to the show that it might have been once upon a time but I still think the show will miss her. Of course it's going to continue and hopefully continue going from strength to strength which it has been recently but yes I do think she'll still leave a gap.
I did laugh at her comments about ringing up about the saucepan and the milk bottle. She must have been a nightmare to work with though with that kind of behaviour. I think Wendy feels that she owned the character when really the writers and the producers owned the character. I do admire her loyalty to the character however and that she knows what is best for the character. After 21 years playing Pauline I can respect that. I don't think it gives her any right to carry on over which storylines she is given though and I do get the impression that she has refused to do things over the years. It gives her a firm right to have a direct opinion and even to quit over something which she has done but not to get storylines scrapped because they don't suit her. I respect her decision to quit and the reason behind it though. I would generally say if anybody is not happy with the storylines then they should go and that's what she has done so there's no arguing with that from me.
I do agree with her actually that Pauline would never remarry. I think Pauline and Joe worked as a couple but it would have been better left as a casual romance. And the thing that pissed me off was that Pauline met Joe in August 2005 and was married to him in February 2006. That wasn't right for the character at all. I think the powers that be were trying their best to give Pauline a new lease of life and in a way it sort of worked and probably would have done had Wendy decided to give it a go but in many ways she is right about it not being Pauline. It may seem OTT to have her walk out over it but I do feel that's the right thing to do rather than take a chance in refusing to do the storyline and see if the producers scrap the idea.
I think they were stubborn and so Wendy became stubborn and adamant that she wasn't going to follow the storyline through, she would play it out but then quit. I have respect to both parties for refusing to back down but I do feel they called her bluff. It's sad that she's leaving but good luck to her is what I say. I admire them for not saying we're going to rethink our plans and I admire Wendy for doing the storyline and then walking because she wasn't happy with it. Wendy would have lost my respect had she said I won't do this and refused to take part in the storyline whatsoever in any capacity. And they, the powers that be, would have lost my respect had they changed their plans for the character. Maybe they knew the risk of Wendy quitting but didn't see it as a big deal? I have a feeling they think along similar lines to the ones that I think along. She is a huge part of EastEnders' history but the show could manage fine without her these days. Maybe it is going to help bring EastEnders into a totally different new era? The show is so fresh these days with almost an entirely different to the cast to what it had a few years back. So maybe now is the right time for the Fowler family to go? Rather than wait a few more years when things have settled down and leave then, rocking the boat again. I think I'd rather go during a period of change so I'm pleased the Fowler family are leaving during this on-going period of change.
She also mentioned leaving over a couple of other things, I have a feeling those might have been the departures of James and Natalie unless there has been some other carry on. She didn't really slate the show, she did say she wasn't happy with the way it was going in relation to Pauline hence quitting but she didn't have anything negative to say about the show itself which was nice. In fact she spoke fairly nicely about the show and in the present tense as if she was still there and a part of the team. She said it was her decision to go and didn't mention any issues with anybody. The only issue she seemed to have was with Pauline's marriage, that was the main issue she spoke about directly. It could be seen as a negative thing against the show but I didn't take it that way. The only other thing was that "and there were a couple of other things" quote which could mean anything such as James and Natalie quitting.
I actually think she came across as being quite nice and it was great to see the fabulous AYBS get a mention too. Now that was a great show. Not as great as EastEnders of course but still a great show.
Anyway I've rambled on enough, I just wanted to give some thoughts on the interview which I really enjoyed.
Really? That's why I prefer the show to Corrie. It's what EastEnders does best. Corrie is good at what it does best and EastEnders is good at what it does best. It just so happens that I prefer what EastEnders does best to what Corrie does best. I like that EastEnders and Corrie are both very different as they offer different things to the viewer.
I think I agree with Mal Young on this even though he said this at a time when the show was going through its bad patch of 03/04.
Even though I'm saying I don't mind the misery in 'Enders it has to be with good storylines mind. 2004 was pretty much the usual relentless misery in the Square yet it was nearly all with shite storylines so it has to be good storylines for it to work. And with characters we care about.Originally Posted by Mal Young
I love that kitchen sink drama, the 'enduring' female is a character that especially works best in 'Enders. They had it recently with Kat and even more recently with Denise. In the past there has been great characters like Cindy Beale and Carol Jackson. They weren't always happy yet viewers loved them because they had warmth and were brilliant characters given great 'depressing' storylines. With EastEnders it has always been about the characters battling their many troubles. That is what the show is about.
With Corrie it's more a quiet slice of life although in recent times they have rivalled EastEnders in terms of misery and lost that. I won't even mention Emmerdale which is a bizarre mix of OTT sensationalism, misery and OTT comedy at the moment. Saw Fridays I think it was and Di and Val were trying to flirt with the police officer. That was a scene that Corrie wouldn't even touch. Then we had the misery of Bob shouting his mouth off at the Kings yet again. The OTT sensationalism has been in abundance in the Dales this year. Helicopter chases, houses collapsing etc. It should only be one of those events per year in 1 soap. I'm not knocking Emmerdale as the main focus of this post has clearly been EastEnders and how it differs to Corrie in style although I did want to throw in a mention of Emmerdale just to say how I see its style these days in relation to the topic.
