Christine, move on. Lost was great fun but it was also a load of nonsense. A very weak character show except for Juliet, who's up there with Cordy, Scully & Aeryn as one of the most interesting females in Sci-Fi.
I say this because I've watched The Wire. Nothing compares.
Ah, yes. But don't you know I was so suckered!!! I actually thought they were gonna make good on all their metaphors and promises. When a show's got to spend the entire last season explaining the previous five seasons....I don't know, I guess I don't want to be explained too all that much. That's why THE WIRE is so good.
So should Christine watch The Corner before The Wire?
Part of me is selfish and wants to subject both of you to Lost - I'm sure your thread would be excellent. And part of me wants to tell you to quit after season five - and miss the last season completely - that's how disappointed I was by it. And for me, it's not fascinating the way the Dream Season of Dallas fascinates me with its absolute self-destructiveness. Dream Season was so off the rails I can't stop watching it, all of it and wonder why? But the last season of Lost seems so intentional - like it was planned and I feel so, so duped by it.
Why the heck not mention here that I just decided to dive headfirst into KNOTS next month.
Oh Margaret thats so EXCITING !!!!!!!! Ur gonna do KNOTS !!!!!!! I'm doing it all with you, you are gonna love love love it....... its the most brilliant of all of the famous night time shows, except for Dynasty season 1 which is genius........do i need to caution you about the unDallasness of the first season? err.....No it dont.
"If someone wants to punch me in the mouth , then stand up and do it "
To me it was not nonsense. Not at all!
I get where you are coming from..of course you cannot compare shows like The Wire / Six Feet Under/ The Sorpranos with a show like Lost. I am sure The Wire is of much higher quality.
But Lost was such a unique show, it will always have a special place in my heart. Now that it's over I can finally rank it and it's my No. 4 fav show of all time!
1. Knots Landing
2. Angel
3. Buffy
4. Lost
5. Battlestar Galactica
In the end it always comes down to personal taste.
And Lost was not a weak character show.On the contrary. Well, that's just my opinion.
Enough pollution of this WIRE thread !!!
Christine come back when you're serious , this is a very very serious thread we're not messing about , no layabouts, laggers, or Losties or Falcon Crest fans !

OMG I turned into a troll. Someone needs to send me a warning.
I've reported you to Man Behind the Scenes .... expect some infractions lady!
"If someone wants to punch me in the mouth , then stand up and do it "
Right lets deal. If Christine does The Wire we'll all do The Gilmore Gals!!! Deal?
Absolutely No deal. Canon behave yourself and tell us how Homicide is going.

I watched the first two seasons of LOST when they were on TV and I liked it--the stuff on the island more than the flashbacks which were mostly a bit too neat and tidy and "explainy". Then the third season was bought by another channel in the UK, and you needed a Voodoo TV to be able to watch it, which I didn't. I was a bit disappointed, but I got over it. Then a year or so later "someone" lent me Season 3 by which time I'd kind of lost the thread ... but I watched it and it was ... good ... fine ... to be honest I can't remember much about it. Mind you, the cliff-hanger was great.
In a way I didn't/don't care much about the overall story, I was more interested in the characters. Charlie was just an AWFUL ridiculous phoney character who couldn't die fast enough for me. But I always really, really liked Jack. I always like the miserable ones. I'd like to see the rest of it, but I'm not sure I care enough to buy the DVDs. It certainly isn't at the top of my list.
Hmm, I've found THE CORNER much easier to get into since watching THE WIRE than I did before.
Wooh great! You've seen Season 1 already though, right? I'm just coming to the end of Season 2. Maybe I'll wait for you to catch up and then do Season 3 onwards with you. Let's all do it! The KNOTS forum needs some serious reviving anyway.
Oh yes it is. It really is. I'd love to get your take on that as well, Margaret. It's only 13 episodes and can easily be watched as a self-contained mini-series. Think of it as THE OTHER CORNER.
Yes let's get back to talking about BABYLON. I've never seen it. But it's been on my Love Film list since forever.

Yes !!! Margaret watch Dynasty season 1 , it's a masterpiece . It is actually a real masterpiece , I watched it and it blew my mind , it's a subversive socio political drama , with glossyness .
Woooo ! We're all doing Knots Landing , happy happy days
Babylon is just brilliant , I laughed and cried and was reminded how much I love London. I also saw my old street in Brixton which was thrilling .....

Yes, I've seen Knots S1 last summer and loved it, esp. The Letter and Laura and Richard. Once S2 arrives, I can begin my quest. I'll let you all know, and seek out the "watching or re-watching" threads on Knots forum. Should only be a matter of days now. (I already have S3-8 waiting for me from a kind kind soul.)
Dynasty S1 eh? I love your description sunshine. OK, I'll get that too.
By then, I'll be ready for a re-watch of The Wire.
I got banned for a few days but now I am back!
Really? I am surprised to hear such a comment from you...usually it's the people who love shows like Stargate and all these crime shows who don't like the flashbacks. They only wanted to see the action that takes place on the island and were not interested in the lives of the characters before the crash...cause they only care for a story but never for the characters...
Too bad you did not get to watch S4 cause from there on it's different.
I am re-watching S11 on German tv right now...
I think I preferred some of characters--Sawyer maybe--when they had a bit of mystery to them. It was enough for me that he was a bit of a bastard. I didn't really need the boo hoo sob story about his father (or whatever it was) to explain it. It's like Abby in KNOTS--it's enough that she's the way she is, we didn't really need to know it was all the fault of Charles Scott. And I remember finding Hurley's comedy flashback episode really irritating.
Lovely, under-rated Season 11!

Today I began to gather all those damn weeklies I subscribe to and never get around to reading...until they pile up and I have to recycle them ...doing my part for the environment and all. Why don't I just cancel the subscriptions already? I take the New Yorker on the train with me every day and never get much past Talk of the Town. Anyway, I quickly flip through them to justify the paper they're printed on before tying them all up and lugging them four floors down to the recycle bin, and today glanced quickly through the movie section of one - VOILA! Babylon is showing Sunday at 5pm at the Maysles Brothers new cinema on Malcom X Boulevard!!! So I got all excited and checked the calendar - I'm free - YAY! And then checked the date on the magazine. The screening was last Sunday. What a letdown.
Oh NO!!!! bUT HOW EXCITING IT WAS SHOWN.......
