Coronation Street has been a pile of dross since Bet Lynch departed back in 1995, but I can see your point of view Chris when you say Corrie has been a pile of dross since Richard Hillman left. It was actually a pile of dross before Richard Hillman arrived as well, do you realise that Chris. Why do you think they brought Richard Hillman into the programme in the first place because it was in dire bloody straits before Richard had come on the scene at all. When the Richard Hillman saga was going on, yes it got everybody talking, yes it got everybody glued to their screens, yes it was a ratings winner, yes it got plenty of publicity, and yes it won all the awards at all the award ceremonies going, it did all of that, but at the same time it was also bloody OTT as well, not to mention it wasn't even Coronation Street. It was a desperate attempt by the bosses to rise those ratings which worked, but only whilst the Richard Hillman saga was going on. What the brightsparks don't think about is what was going to happen after the Richard Hillman saga came to an end, bugger all apart from back to the usual pile of dross. I bet Brian Capron can't go anywhere now without been shouted at in the Street and called murderer. Another thing that really annoys me is the fact that Carolyn Reynolds gets praised by the press for putting Coronation Street back on top. The press exaggerate as usual. Carolyn Reynolds did not put Coronation Street back on top at all, she just masterminded one storyline thats all (The Richard Hillman saga) which I wish hadn't even come along at all.
I wouldn't say it's been a pile of dross for that long. I started to go off it at the beginning of last year. I prefer Emmerdale to Corrie these days.
Bringing back Bet Lynch won't exactly make the soap great again, and it could do with a pair of strong brothers like Grant and Phil Mitchell to spice the soap up a bit.
Annie- I think you should stop comparing it to back then, what soap is better Now than it was back then????

It has been a pile of dross for longer than you think and Emmerdale is equally as bad.
Nobody will make the soap great again, not whilst it is on 5 times a week. As for bringing in a pair of brothers like the Mitchells that won't work neither. The critics would cotton onto it straight away and will start to slate it for copying Eastenders.
No soap is any good anymore. Why shouldn't I compare Coronation Street now to how it was back then. It was 1000% better when the likes of Ena Sharples, Elsie Tanner, Annie Walker, Hilda Ogden and Bet Lynch ruled the roost. The characters in them days used to shine and the actors could actually act. It was also Coronation Street then, it is no longer Coronation Street anymore and hasn't been Coronation Street for years.

I think that what Corrie needs is some strong female characters again, such as EastEnders' Denise Fox and Tanya Branning. Both Diane Parish and Jo Joyner would improve Corrie immensely.

Yes I have remembered the date as well. What are you trying to imply here.
I doubt very much they would improve Coronation Street at all because both of those actresses are Londoners aren't they. Coronation Street is a Lancashire thing.
Jo Joyner is the name of the actress who plays Tanya Branning, and I remember when she played a nurse called Beth in Channel 4s' No Angels, and she looked a lot more attractive in that, and I also think that that was a better role for her - She's being wasted in EastEnders!!!
I don't think she is being wasted in Eastenders- she is very good in it and she is sooo not wooden, Elsie Tanner (IMO). She even won an Best comedy performance award before EE.
The woman who plays Tanya is perfectly fine if you ask me.

I have never seen her, but I'll take your word for it Elsie because I can well believe that.
Chris, June Brown and Pam St Clement are wasted in Deadenders as well and so was Tony Caunter when he starred in it. Tony is a fine character actor overall in general and degraded himself joining the cast of this tripe.
Big deal she won a best comedy performance award before Eastenders, that proves nothing.
If you say so. I'm taking Elsie Tanner's word for it.
Err, okay then Annie walker. Ever heard of Own opinions? Do you just listen and copy Elsie Tanner? In her opinion Tanya is bad, but you don't watch so you just follow what Elsie said.
Annie if you have never seen her than you have no right what so ever to comment on her acting abilities. Watch her and THEN comment.

No I don't copy Elsie Tanner. I am taking her word for it because I have seen other actors in Eastenders and how bad they are, so how is the actress who plays Tanya going to be any different to all the others.
I have no intentions of watching Eastenders four times a week just to keep up with the actress who plays Tanya.
I am not surprised that he copies Elsie Tanner because she's a former Corrie character.
If it was Bet Lynch or Hilda Ogden, then he'd copy them as well.

What makes you think I am copying Elsie Tanner. Until Elsie posts something I disagree with, then I will agree with her. If a new member arrived on here called Bet Lynch or Hilda Ogden it doesn't necessarily mean I would agree with their views. My username of AnnieWalker has got nothing to do with me been biased towards Coronation Street. When I was a member of Digital Spy I went by the username DickGherkin and I slated Coronation Street to high heaven on that website as well, ask Bobthechicken, he can vouch for that. There is no character in Coronation Street called DickGherkin is there, but I still ranted about Coronation Street just the same as I do here going under that username on Digital Spy.
