I've never heard of it, Sarah.......could you enlighten me on the subject?

It's like..you set up your own business..you pump lots of money in..you recruit others..you earn money when they earn money etc..quite often involves putting sales catelogues out through doors and taking orders..you get orders you make money...the hours are horrendous and you have to follow it all up with calls..you can potentially be a millionaire (apparently)

Oh....no I haven't heard of that.
Are you thinking of going into business?

I've heard Network Marketing is pretty much a scam. Only people at the top of the chain make any money.

Well a pyramid scheme is blatantly illegal... however and MLM sceme gets carefully combed through by lawyers to ensure legality.
A google search on the subject may be a good idea.

Well....either way you slice it....it still smells crooked to me...LOL

Run...Run ...I mean it Run as fast as you can!!
My husband got sucked in..the meetings are a bunch of infomercial type people talking super fast and telling stories of how people have quit their jobs because of this "company" I'd guess you call it.
Its so complicated to explain but basically you invest a certain amount of money ( ours was $350) and then you are put on a type of scale ( kinda like a pyramid but dare say pyramid at a meeting and you might as well say you are a serial killer! They are very adamant about not being a "pyramid scam"
but I say if it looks like one, smells like one ..it probally is!
The deal was to start making money we must recruit at least 3 other people and those three then would recruit people which we would make money off them and there recruits and so and so on.
I never fully understood the products we were suppose to be selling but basically you ALSO had to have so many points to collect your money and these points consisted of paying for an "office" through the computer.
paying for your dish network through their (your) company and your cellphone ( I think cellular was the phonecompany but I'm not 100% sure)
Other ways to get points was to buy a bunch of vitamins a month through a certain company and in turn somehow we would get so much credit back by what we purchased through these certain companies involved.
They tried to explain that these companies were benefiting by the advvertisement and therefore would pay revenues of everyone we recruited and who used there products however these recruits had to follow the same rules such as the having 3 recruits and so many points.
So its pretty hard to convince one person letalone 3 people to join such a complicated "opportunity" and I was never comfortable trying to involve my friends and family in something that in my opinion was not going to work.
So we just called our $350 a lesson learned and stopped paying for the "office "( an accountant fee basically I think it was $56 a month)
I'm just glad we didnt get anyone else involved because at the meetings they would make it sound so good and get you all pumped up but after we gave it some thought we both agreed we wanted to get out of this crazy idea!)

Thank you Faithy for the great reply. Basically this is a company where you sell door to door, you get paid the money but have to put money upfront to order a kit etc. It's my boyfriend that is doing it and it's a nightmare. He has this notion of being a millionaire (fair enough) but he works literally 23 hours a day and doesn't eat or sleep properly. He has become obsessed with self help seminars and books as this is what the people that run this tell him is the key to life. You basically earn as much as you sell. you have to do catalogue drops (up to 1000 books a week) and then collect them all. you could get one order or 100 - that is how much you earn. You have to try to recruit others and if they do well, you do well. They are very into goal setting and are almost like a cult in my opinion.

Oh yeah... I forgot to mention that a coworker of mine tried to get me involved in one of these... I went to the introductory meeting and it felt like I was in some kind of spiritual revival or something....

Yes that is what this is like. It's like they have this secret knowledge.. I think they go home at night and peel off their faces...
-

And all the $$$ they made.... only people at the top are the ones making money

Do you think it is worth it if you get to that position?

Oh dear. Many MLM are truly cult like, and get their members to get into a group think mentality, a real "us and them." Some, like AMWAY have religion involved.
Is your boyfriend secretive?
Does he mock you for questioning him about the mlm?
Does he sorta chant their mantras and not really speak for himself anymore, but just quotes others?
Has he suddenly "seen the light," a self improvment , self help plan or religion itself?
Has he changed?
Has he grown distant from friend and family?
Is he agressive about making you conform to his beliefs?
If so, talk to this family. This isn't an ordinary business. It's very cult like and it ruins people.
