    Default Don't even watch it.

I don't even watch Buffy James..in fact when David Boreaneaz (?) walked past me in London I only found out who he was when a dozen screaming girls shouted out his name! I don't believe something which is about Vampires and schoolkids could be more original than Dallas, but I only have the fact that Buffy has turned an old school friend of mine into a freak of nature to go by!!

How many other stories about vampires and schoolkids have there been?

Needless to say that I agree with James!

Edit: Oops, didn't realize this thread was already on page 3.
But I still agree with James, of course!

Sarah, my dear, you've never seen Buffy so I understand why you think this way. I used to think Buffy must be the stupidest show ever before I started watching and got hooked.
I always like to say that Buffy is NOT about vampires and demons. (huh? - )
It's about so much more. Friendship and love for example!
It's the best show ever, next to Knots Landing of course!

You really can't judge a show on it's premise alone. A show about a teenage, vampire slayer sounds ridiculously stupid, but it's brilliant. You just have to see some things to understand.

Kinda like Veronica Mars, which has been hailed as the new Buffy. It's basically about a teenage detective, but it's brilliant. The best thing on TV right now, hands down. Originally I refused to watch because it sounded so stupid, but once I did tune in, I was hooked and have never looked back.

BTW, Joss Whedon will be guest starring on the show this November! Charisma Carpenter is also in the cast and Alyson Hannigan pops up occasionally.

Oooo..ok was only expressing an opinion..or trying to. I have actually seen it just the once, but I really didn't like it sorry. I guess it's something you have to follow from the beginning. My friend goes to all the conventions and has met some of the stars. She spends a fortune going to things.

** Sarah you can't only watch one episode of Buffy, because it's the weirdest show out there when you just see one episode...however if you watch let's say a season...it's not weird anymore...it's genius! and being hooked on it is garuanteed!
Seriously you should give it a try again when you hang out with your friend and I'm sure you will see why it's a brilliant show!

Of course not as good as Dallas, which is number one for me, but Buffy & Angel are both close seconds!

    Take care,
    Best wishes:
    Karin.

I can't believe anyone is actually comparing Buffy's incredible writing and completely perfect run (except for the potentials) to any show except maybe Senifeld (if you are going to compare apples to oranges that is).
But in the writing and overall attention to detail nothing beats Joss Whedon. Charmed is watchable for the most part, especially when the Nip/Tuck guy was around, but no where near anything Joss did with Buffy & Angel.
    That's what I think anyway!

It's all a matter of opinion. I'm devoted to Dallas and have watched it throughout it's 27 years. There's never been anything like it, or since. I don't believe there will ever be anything like it again. Buffy is a different type of show and I respect that. Dallas is a phenomenon - not everything can live up to that and I wouldn't expect it to.

But Buffy is unique and an original idea. It's done well which is great.

** Sarah I'm glad that it wasn't the liking Buffy that made your friend weird...
and yeah I do know what you're saying about Dallas. it was a phenomenon. In a way I guess Buffy is a phenomenon too but not in a way that can be compared...
I guess it all comes down to personal preferences really and you're right when you say that there will never be another Dallas. It won't. The emotional connection to it is so strong as we all grew up with this show and it stayed with us for years and years and years. I originally only watched Dallas for 2 years in the original run and then saw it all in reruns for 2 years while I caught 4 years of Buffy's original run and all five of Angels. It was nice to be a fan of a show that's still in production as that is something I missed out on with Dallas and before Buffy & Angel was cancelled I never could tell which was my favorite show. But now when it's all over and I'm looking back I know in my heart that Dallas is number one. It has had a much bigger impact on my life than Buffy as I was so much younger when it came into my life that it could effect my values and stuff...

Still in my opinion they are all three special shows just in different ways as they all have their different memories and associations that goes with them...

    Take care,
    Best wishes:
    Karin.

Well said! No it wasn't cos she liked Buff - it was more to do with the fact that she came to stay with me while I lived in London for a holiday and wouldn't come out of the apartment preferring to watch Buffy videos inside instead...

I think that the begining of "Buffy" was a little weak (it had too big teenager show's touch) but from season 3 to the end it was a great improvement (even if some episodes of the last season were a little boring sometimes). There are a lot of episodes which were VERY inspired and memorable! And even experimental!

On the contrary, "Charmed" was good for 2 years and then became more and more silly. Season 3 was bad, mainly because the character of Prue was too mature to fit into the new orientation, so when Paige came, it brought more coherence and fresh-air. But it didn't last for long and the last episodes of season 5 and season 6 were so silly that I stoped to watched it!

To compare "Dynasty" to "Charmed" is unfair and almost an insult. Sure "Dynasty" was silly sometimes, but it wasn't a show for "tired brains", I'm sorry. To compare it to "the love boat" will be more appopriate.
Now, I appreciate to watch "the love boat" sometimes, sure, but you know when you watch it that it's just to be relaxed. You don't look for a script. Even if "Dynasty" had huge problems of coherence, it HAD a script.
What is more, "Dynasty" is often critized because it was camp but after all "Dallas" was corny and I rarely read people who complained about that. I personnally think that, like the campy touch of "Dynasty", it was a part of its charm. "Dallas" without its old cow-boys is not the same.

I came here to give my opinion of the shows, but James from London has made me laugh so hard, that I've forgotten what I planned to say! !

    ....Oh that's right.
    Buffy rules.
Charmed was great when Pru was alive. (Rose McGowan? Please. Even Eliza Dushku or Tiffani Amber Thiessen would have been better Paiges, in my opinion.)
Dallas, while very different than the other shows, beats the crap outta Charmed. And I give Buffy a leg up because I was just outta high school when Buffy started.

And I loved the "Death Took the Wrong Halliwell Thread" at TWOP!!!

Default You urgently need to get a life

Let's leave aside the matter of poor English, let's leave aside bringing up shows that are in no way comparable; Charmed and Dallas, please...in simple point of fact BTVS, at its best, approaches and often attains the level of Art. "Once more with feeling" by itself justifies the whole six-and-a-half seasons...and there are so many more moments in it and the least of those moments is better than the credulous pap called "Dallas."

You seem to have been trying to start a flame war...I would suggest that you picked the wrong place for it.

Wasn't trying to start a flame war. I was having a bad day, and brought it to the board. My apologies. Never post when ticked off! Won't happen again.

    Default You are correct, Christine...

I'm sorry that Steph thought my comments were directed at him; I thought it obvious that they were directed at the originator of the thread but perhaps he was thrown off by my post appearing directly after his.
