Exclamation LOL, Andy Rooney's such a hoot!

"I don't think being a minority makes you a victim of anything except numbers. The only things I can think of that are truly discriminatory are things like the United Negro College Fund, Jet Magazine, Black Entertainment Television, and Miss Black America. Try to have things like the United Caucasian College Fund, Cloud Magazine, White Entertainment Television, or Miss White America; and see what happens... Jesse Jackson will be knocking down your door.

I believe they are called the Boy Scouts for a reason... that is why there are no girls allowed. Girls belong in the Girl Scouts! ARE YOU LISTENING MARTHA BURKE?

When 70% of the people who get arrested are black, in cities where 70% of the population is black, that is not racial profiling, it is the Law of Probability.

I believe that if you are selling me a milkshake, a pack of cigarettes, a newspaper or a hotel room, you must do it in English! As a matter of fact, if you want to be an American citizen, you should have to speak English!

My father and grandfather didn't die in vain so you can leave the countries you were born in to come over and disrespect ours. I think the police should have every right to shoot your sorry behind if you threaten them after they tell you to stop. If you can't understand the word "freeze" or "stop" in English, see the above lines.

I don't think just because you were not born in this country, you are qualified for any special loan programs, government sponsored bank loans or tax breaks, etc., so you can open a hotel, coffee shop, trinket store, or any other business.

We did not go to the aid of certain foreign countries and risk our lives in wars to defend their freedoms, so that decades later they could come over here and tell us our constitution is a living document; and open to their interpretations.

I don't hate the rich. I don't pity the poor.

I know pro wrestling is fake, but so are movies and television. That doesn't stop you from watching them.

I think Bill Gates has every right to keep every penny he made and continue to make more. If it ticks you off, go and invent the next operating system that's better, and put your name on the building.

It doesn't take a whole village to raise a child right, but it does take a parent to stand up to the kid; and smack their little behinds when necessary, and say "NO!"

I think tattoos and piercing are fine if you want them, but please don't pretend they are a political statement. And, please, stay home until that new lip ring heals. I don't want to look at your ugly infected mouth as you serve me French fries!

I am sick of "Political Correctness." I know a lot of black people, and not a single one of them was born in Africa; so how can they be "African-Americans"? Besides, Africa is a continent. I don't go around saying I am a European-American because my great, great, great, great, great, great grandfather was from Europe. I am proud to be from America and nowhere else.

And if you don't like my point of view, tough...

    THEN DON'T PASS IT ON!!"

Very good post Laurie, and for once, something I can agree with.

What do you mean for once? We agree to disagree practically all the time.

I thought it was relevant considering the NAACP Black Heritage Awards are being broadcast soon.

I think Laurie fell on her head and is now one of the walking wounded. Next thing you know, she will be moving to Manitoba. You guys finally wore her down and made her drink the kool-aide...

I have nothing else to say, but the error message popped up saying the above message was too short and that my message must be at least 10 characters, so I hope it's long enough now to post the one little sign that I originally wanted to post.

Alex, they haven't won me over...I just happen to be in favour of equal rights for all. Its so hypocritical and in my opinion, counter productive to combatting racism/sexism/homosexuality and such for there to still be so much segregation in society. When people see that one group is allowed to flaunt their pride, it only provokes anger. I have absolutely no desire to stand on a float in a heterosexual pride parade or watch a caucasion beauty pageant, etc. but if a gay pride parade and a Miss Black America pageant is okay, then the straight and white version should be also.

Take Oprah Winfrey, she openly admits that she cheers for blacks to win oscars but if Maury Povich said he was cheering for the white guys, he'd be booted off the air. Me personally, I cheer for the actors I enjoyed, regardless of their religion or skin colour...go figure.

Andy Rooney brings some lighthearted relief to an otherwise overly uptight program. Watching Mike Wallace and Ed Bradley be so bland and serious turns me off after awhile, and Andy is a breath of fresh air.

BTW, "Did'cha ever notice" he sounds funnier on TV than on the printed page?

I actually read that before when it first came out and I wanted to print and frame it. I was like "GO ANDY." Sometimes he can be a crazy old coot, but this time he hit it BULLSEYE!!

I don't like Andy Rooney. Every time I watch 60 Minutes I hope for lots of viewer mail. Whenever Rooney pops up, it's channel changing time for me.

When people see that one group is allowed to flaunt their pride, it only provokes anger. I have absolutely no desire to stand on a float in a heterosexual pride parade or watch a caucasion beauty pageant, etc.

What a truly ignorant statement. When all the beauty queens are consistantly white, and the only popular black actresses are the ones with acceptable hair, lips, and noses, we need black beauty pageants.

Straights don't need a parade, because you can walk down any street anywhere and parade your love for one another by holding hands and generally making the rest of us sick. That's parade enough for you. Parading down the wedding aisle and expecting nice gifts from your gay, second class citizen friends is enough of a heterosexist pride-fest for you, biotch. The only time gays feel comfortable expressing any sort of affection for their partners is in MASS numbers when it takes the form of a parade down mainstreet lest we get our heads bashed in by redneck haters. So, go blow it out your ass you idiotic moron....

And these groups being allowed to have their very own "special" parade or pageant makes them feel what...proud?...special?...accepted?....loved?

Sounds like those people may be in need of some good therapy (or maybe some anger management) rather than some ceremonial testimony to their self worth.

Millions of Americans agree with most or some of what he said. Much of what he also said is hitting the nail so hard on the head, you broke the hammer.

Whew!! Have you got that out of your system now Alex? Please, humour me and allow me to quote my very own words of wisdom, “When people see that one group is allowed to flaunt their pride, it only provokes anger.” Your little angry outburst directed at straights just proved me correct Alex. If you want to blame your personal inner demons on straight people, please try to do it with a little more logic. Plus, directing such vile anger towards me, somebody who thinks gay marriage should be legal, really isn’t helping your plight any. You’ve made me think that maybe a gay guy like you isn’t quite mature enough for marriage anyway.

I’ve seen many, many gay couples flaunting their affection for each other in public. They’re comfortable with themselves and their lifestyle choices, unlike you. Personally, I think that all over-the-top public displays of affection are nothing more than a cry for attention by weak individuals who crave legitimacy…gay or straight, I don’t discriminate with that opinion. The ease factor of being who/what you are in the public spotlight when outnumbered by opposites in any form is achieved by your own confidence in who/what you are, and how you deal with the situation, not by that majority group’s opinion of you.

Being a woman, on more than one occasion, I’ve had to walk past or through a group of tough talking, chauvinistic men all by myself. I’ll admit, its unnerving, especially in isolated areas but they have these new inventions now called cell phones, personal alarms and mace. I might “get my head bashed in” or raped by some angry man someday but that doesn’t mean I’m going to only be a woman in mass groups of other women in a parade.

Now, you said that I made a “truly ignorant statement”…well, that’s what I’d call this statement of yours: “When all the beauty queens are consistently white, and the only popular black actresses are the ones with acceptable hair, lips, and noses, we need black beauty pageants.” First of all, more and more minorities are winning beauty pageants, singing competitions and awards while being up against whites so why do they also need their own segregated competitions to feel worthy? Second, if the only black actresses who’re popular to whites are the ones who either are part white or have white features, then why do those black actress awards only recognize those same actresses? Seems to me that if black people have a problem with it, they wouldn't celebrate them so much.

Now, having gotten that out of my system let me end with another one of your quotes: “So, go blow it out your ass you idiotic moron....”

Whatever Laurie, don't invite me to your heterosexist parade of pride down the aisle and expect some swanky gift. How kind and generous of you to think gays should be allowed to marry. I should kiss the ground you walk on for your mere acceptance of my kind.

You know, as minorities gain acceptance maybe they will find the need to parade a little less. But so far, the Irish haven't found any need to stop their flaunting their minority status. Should we ban the St. Patrick's day parade? What about the Puerto Rican Day Parade in NYC? What parades are acceptable? Maybe you should decide, being that you're one of the offended majority.
