    Default Cally was NOT dumb...

She may have been naive at times...but once she saw what the kind of man J.R. really was, she packed her bags and left for a better life.

I know a lot of people think Cally was a dumb hick, but once she saw the real J.R., she got away from him and never came back, unlike Sue Ellen who came back to him time and time again. (I am not criticizing Sue Ellen, I am just stating the facts here).

I like both Sue Ellen and Cally...both women were way too good for the likes of J.R....but one good thing about both women's time with him is they both grew to be better and stronger women.

I agree, Beth. Both women did grow into better and stronger people. In the beginning, Cally's character was portrayed as a little naive' country bumpkin, and that was not the case. That girl was wise beyond her years. She had a very mature and healthy insight into JR, and I'm glad it did not take her as many years as it did Sue Ellen to realize what a destructive relationship she had with him.

i liked Cally, i thought she was a very sweet girl. i agree she was naive but what did they expect, she was what 24 and from a small hick town that didn't have but one phone i think. i loved how she stood up to JR, she didn't take his crap, she was a strong women too, unlike SE she didn't run for the bottle, i like SE don't get me wrong, but i don't like what they did to her. they make her strong and fearless then they get rid of her.

I loved Cally too. I used to identify with her character (as well as April's and Lucy's) a bit when I first started to watch the show at 11...maybe that's because she was younger than some of the other characters...

I think that she was really sweet, her accent was funny and I felt so sorry for her when JR crushed her illusions, but she did do the best thing she could. She packed her bags and left for a better life without JR...

So yeah I do like the character a lot.

    Best wishes:
    Karin.

I get what you're saying but i still didn't like her.

Eshe, you're right, why make SE strong just to let her leave.

I liked Cally. She was sweet, unspoiled, and very pretty. I thought it was cute that Sue Ellen tried to help her win over JR.

I liked Cally. She wasn't too dumb if she was able to trick ol' J.R. into marrying her! (Of course, she did have a little help from Sue Ellen.) The sad thing is Cally really loved J.R. and he just treated her like crap!

Cally was really sweet. It was a shame she raised JR's baby without him.

Beth, I am not disagreeing with you there, even though I don't like Cally. However, I will say that Cally and JR were a total mismatch and it was a mistake to put those two together. I should also point out that Cally did not have the capability of handling JR and getting under his skin like Sue Ellen could. Sue Ellen knew what made him tick, and learned from him by taking over Valentine. All Cally did was plot with James to put him in the sanitarium. It was laughable watching them together and turn JR into a sugar daddy. Of course this is only my opinion. Aside from that, I agree that she was not dumb. She wasn't too bright there with her english speaking skills and taking JR's word down in Haleyville, but she did get better in the end.

I agree Cally wasn't as well suited as pushing J.R.'s buttons like Sue Ellen, but she didn't stick around for more of his abuse to learn how to get under his skin. She got out of there before he could destroy her time and time again.

She was just from a small town and not used to deception. That doesn't make her dumb at all.

I should also point out that I didn't think Cally was ever really in love with JR in the first place anyway. She was head over heels with the man she met in Haleyville, and it took her a while to realize that JR was never that man and never could be. When she finally saw his true colors, whatever feelings she had left of him were gone. If she loved him, she would have kept taking him back like Sue Ellen did.

    Only my opinion...
