I'd just like to get public opinion on how strong Larry Hagman's talents were in all his Dallas roles (actor, director, "writer," executive producer.)

I think nobody questions he was an outstanding actor as J.R., even though he never won an Emmy.

In Barbara Curran's book, the cast mainly gives him positive marks as a director. Can't say I know one way or the other.

When it comes to being a "writer," Larry Hagman never wrote an actual script for Dallas but clearly had his hand in some major storylines, such as the decision to reveal Ray Krebbs as Jock's fourth son. I personally think this was a great idea -- it strengthened Ray's connection to the Ewing family and kept him involved in the show after Jock passed on.

As an executive producer... yuck. Dallas entered a death spiral as soon as Larry took over as executive producer. The tone was all wrong, the overall direction was wrong, and it seemed every character was saying and doing things they never would have done.

So my grades would be
Actor: A
Director: B
"Writer": B
Executive Producer: D-minus
