What about Julia Roberts playing Sue Ellen. I still think Ashley Judd would be a great Pam. John Travolta as Jr that would be great. He is one of my absolute favourite actors.

You're not the first to think of Julia Roberts to play Sue Ellen, though I think if she did, she'd have to take a massive pay cut to do it (she gets I believe $20 million a picture). Ashley Judd as noted before I think would be better suited for Sue Ellen than Pam.

Aside from the Law & Order franchise ladies I have suggested before, another possibility for Pam might be Reiko Aylesworth, who I actually have currently as the frontrunner to replace Elisabeth Rohm on the original Law & Order as the Assistant District Attorney (and she previously has played an ADA in the "L & O franchise" of Erica Alden in three episodes of spinoff Special Victims Unit in early 2000 before Stephanie March took over as the full-time ADA). Reiko would bring a ton of fans of 24 into the mix if Reiko did play Pam, as she made those with her playing Michelle Dessler this past season on "24" (Reiko is as of now only supposed to at the most be in a guest role on "24" this coming season). She's another whom I think being in this could be vaulted into superstardom.

First of all Hello everybody!! Having a wonderful time at Mackinaw Island, been going on
lots of bycycle rides, eating fudge, collecting
souveniors, horse rides, we'll all having a wonderful time.

We're at a friend's house who happens to live on
the island, so I decided to take the time and say hello to ya all. You know she watches Dallas
too (what a small world) so I asked if I could get into here she said she saw no reason to say
    why not.

This will be my only chance until we get back home to post anything so I say what the heck why
not post some. Looks like I got some catching up
    to do.So here goes

First of all in response to this post I like Law
and Order too but to cast a lot of actors from
that show on Dallas the movie, that to me would be as inconceivable as casting the cast of Dallas on a big screen version of Law and Order.

First of all Chris Noth is too old to play Bobby. Maybe 15 years ago he could have played the role but definately not now, too much time
    has passed.

Sam Waterston, great as Jack McCoy is nowhere near as tough as Jim Davis. If anyone Steven Hill who used to play Adam Schiff would be a more sensible choice.

Dianne Wiest, well she's not my favorite actress but she's not a bad one, but in my opinion she just doesn't have what it takes to
    be Miss Ellie.

As for Pam and Sue Ellen, well maybe Angie could
pull off the role of Sue Ellen, but as for Pam,
    well...

For some reason I can picture Mel Gibson as JR. I think he could def. pull it off. He could do the JR smirk so well too

Sue Ellen-isn't Ashley Judd too young to play SE? I would say Teri Hatcher could even work for this role as well.

Pamela probably Sandra Bullock or Ashley Judd or even Teri Hatcher

Bobby I would have to go with Dean Cain or Bill Paxton, or even Tim Daly

Lucy I would say Alicia Silverstone would be perfect for the role.

Not sure about the others though.

If they could get Mel Gibson, it definitely would not hurt in the starpower. He's one who definitely would give the film plenty of credibility, and I do agree, he's one that could definitely pull off playing J.R.

Ashley Judd is now 36, and is actually two years older than Linda Gray was (at 34) when she first played Sue Ellen in 1978. I do like her as Sue Ellen, and Teri Hatcher would be also be excellent in this role.

Saying that, I still like Angie Harmon best for this role, as she's a Dallas-area native, and that to me is very important for both Sue Ellen and Pam.

Ashley Judd could probably pull it off as could Sandra Bullock, but all three I think are a little old to be playing Pam, who was younger than Sue Ellen.

As I said before, I like Stephanie March best to play Pam because like Angie Harmon she is a Dallas-area native, with Angie as Pam if someone else plays Sue Ellen. Others that I like for this role as noted are Reiko Aylesworth and Holly Marie Combs.

I didn't think of Dean Cain before, and he probably would be believable as Bobby. As said before, I think this will be the trickiest role to cast, and for now I like Julian McMahon as Bobby.

She'd be OK, but as noted I suspect they will make Lucy 19-20 at the most, and if so Alicia would be a bit old to play Lucy (especially after doing Miss Match this past season). That's why I would go for Hillary Duff, who is another Texas native in the role.

Bill Paxton would make a decent J.R.
I've always thought Kevin Spacey would be the perfect J.R. b/c of his roles in Swimming with Sharks & Midnight in the Garden of Good & Evil (which was directed by my choice for Jock Ewing, Mr. Clint Eastwood (or Robert Duvall) who really could solidify Jock's legendary status as a god-like oil baron / cowboy in the Jim Davis mold)

Perhaps, Bill Paxton or Luke Wilson as Bobby because in realistic terms you're probably not going to have an all A-list cast. In all likely hood you know J.R. and Sue Ellen will be the main focus of the movie. Guys like Colin Farrell will not play second fiddle with the $$$ he demands.

Ashley Judd would make a great Sue Ellen IMO. That could be a great pair Spacey & Ashley Judd.

good suggestions from all. Hell, I'd watch it no matter who they cast.

    Hutch:

Thanks for jarring the brain here.

Kevin Spacey would probably do J.R. better than anyone else who has been mentioned so far, and he's played that kind of a character before, so I think he would be the ideal lead. Tommy Lee Jones would now drop to my second choice as J.R.

As for Sue Ellen, I firmly would now make Angie Harmon my first choice to play her. Angie has enough starpower from her Law & Order days (especially since she is credited with bringing a ton of male viewers to the show when she replaced Carey Lowell to start the ninth season in September 1998) that she could bring a lot of fans while at the same time probably not demand nearly as much as an Ashley Judd to play the role.

I'll definitely take Kevin Spacey and Angie Harmon as J.R. and Sue Ellen on the big screen.

They're all interesting choices. I wonder if any of them would do the roles? I have to agree with some of the others though, it would be hard to see anyone else in the roles.

I had Tommy Lee Jones (correct spelling) for J.R. until the post suggesting Kevin Spacey, which I now agree with.

As for Sue Ellen, Susan Sarandon is too old to play her (as she's I believe 57). I have as noted before Angie Harmon (who turns 32 in August) in that role myself.

Ben Affleck probably would demand too high a salary to play Bobby. My choice as noted right now for Bobby would be Julian McMahon, though there are a lot of good choices for Bobby.

As noted before on Pam, my choices are Stephanie March, Reiko Aylesworth and Holly Marie Combs (though the latter is highly unlikely because she just had a baby in April and is about to begin filming on season seven of Charmed later this month). Stephanie and Reiko have loyal fan bases from Special Victims Unit and 24 respectively and would bring those fans into the mix if either played Pam.

If Nicholson played anyone, it would most likely be Jock, and I can't see that.

As for Ray and Donna, I like as previously noted Chris Noth and Mariska Hartigay to play them, though I could also see Jill Hennessy (another Law & Order alumni currently starring on Crossing Jordan) as Donna. If Jill played Donna, she and Chris (as Ray) I think would be great together. They did work together before in seasons four and five of "L & O" (1993-'95) and also for two episodes of "CJ" (in the first season in November 2001), and are very good friends off-screen.

Robert Redford would be very interesting as Clayton, but I don't know if he would do it. Also, I don't know if we would see Clayton in a big-screen version anyway since his character didn't come in until after Jim Davis passed away.

For Miss Ellie, I still like Dianne Wiest, who as noted before is a two-time Oscar winner, and for Jock, I still think Sam Waterston would be ideal for reasons mentioned earlier.

Harvey Keitel would be interesting as Cliff. As for Carter McKay, I don't remember that character that well, and I don't know if that character would be used in a big-screen version.

One character I now suspect would be used in a big-screen version would be Jeremy Wendell, and if so it would be very interesting who you would get to play him.

    Happygirl:

Dean Cain would be an interesting choice as Bobby as mentioned before. He does look enough like Patrick Duffy did in his Bobby days to pull it off.

As for Jeremy Wendell, after thinking about it I would have to consider Fred Thompson, currenly playing District Attorney Arthur Branch on Law & Order. Since he is also a lawyer and a retired US Senator in real life, I'm sure he's had to deal with oilmen for real and might fit his range as well.

    Bruce Willis - JR
Lisa Rinna or Julianne Moore, or even better, Sharon Stone - Sue Ellen
    Luke Wilson - Bobby
Omarosa as Pam - I just had to throw that in!
    Reese Witherspoon as Lucy
    Jodie Foster - Donnasti
    Brad Pitt - Ray
    Justin Timberlake - Peter

I thought we needed some humor. How about Donald Trump as JR?

    Sue Ellen:

Maybe not as JR, but I could see Trump in a cameo as himself perhaps (looking to build perhaps a Trump Tower in Dallas or perhaps where JR has an apartment in Trump Tower in New York as well as being on Southfork).

As for my current casting ideas:

    Jock -- Sam Waterston
    Miss Ellie -- Dianne Wiest
    J.R. -- Kevin Spacey
    Sue Ellen -- Angie Harmon
Bobby -- Julian McMahon or Dean Cain
Pamela -- Stephanie March or Reiko Aylesworth
    Ray Krebbs -- Chris Noth
Donna Culver Krebbs -- Mariska Hartigay
    Cliff Barnes -- Lee Tergenson
    Lucy -- Hillary Duff
    Jeremy Wendell -- Fred Thompson

    An update:

Apparently from what I read on TNT's Law & Order message board (the post on that board you can see by clicking this link), someone there is claiming that Angie was considering returning to her former role of Assistant District Attorney Abbie Carmichael on Law & Order, but also has more interest in doing the Dallas movie. While I can't really believe the post at this time, given a lot of "L & O" junkies want her to return there as the replacement for Elisabeth Rohm (who had replaced Angie in 2001 in the role of the ADA), it nonetheless is news.

I suspect given Angie is a Dallas-area native, being in the movie would appeal much more than a return to "L & O", and as noted before, it's the same reason I would also want Stephanie March for a big-screen version.

Hey Wally, stop pushing your Law & Order stuff on the Dallas site, I mean are you serious? Anyway, is the whole movie idea really a good idea? Would it be a comedy or a drama? I believe anything that can be done in the mass media to give the show attention is good, but who could rally play these parts? Ben Affleck? Ugh. I would rather see a 3rd and final Dallas moie, and I could write it! Hmm, Julia Roberts as Pamela? How about Cherish Lee and Lucy? Charlene may like that.....

    John Ross:

When I was picking my cast for a big-screen version of Dallas that I noted here, my first priority was to try and find a number of well-known actors, but at the same time trying to be realistic and not go for every big name out there that would in some cases blow the budget, or in other cases would most likely turn down the role in question. If you noticed, there were a few cases where I actually have listened to others, and I have noted that in here.

Anyway, J.R. is in my opinion the one role where you truly do need a big-name actor in the spot. Kevin Spacey was suggested and I do agree on him, though I also for instance can see George Clooney as one who'd also play J.R., as he's as big a name actor as there is at present.

Some have suggested people like Brad Pitt to play roles in here, but in just can't see a role to fit him in this, and even if I did, it's a case where I could see Pitt or other actors turning down such roles.

One example of someone who I think would actually turn down a role like that for now is Shannen Doherty. While I think she'd be great as either Sue Ellen or Pam for example, she currently is tied up in getting a sitcom off the ground that she is developing for a likely premiere in the 2005-'06 season on NBC that she will also star in, and in addition has in development another show that she will be producing. Those two projects I think would preclude her from taking on a role in the Dallas remake.

I will admit, I did go more than a bit Law & Order franchise-heavy in my casting ideas, however, that is in part because in several cases, I happen to think either current "franchise" cast members or alumni would fit the cast perfectly for a big-screen version. In the case of Chris Noth for instance, he's equally as known (if not more so in many circles) for playing "Mr. Big" on Sex and the City as/than he is for playing Mike Logan on the original Law & Order. He's also played a Texan on the big-screen as far as I remember (seeing him in a film set in Texas a few years back that I can't remember the title of), so I think he'd have no trouble with that.

In the case of Ashley Judd, I think she's one big name you might be able to get to play Sue Ellen or Pam, and I thought I made that clear. She's one who I also think would be more likely than Julia Roberts for instance, as I think Julia would demand too high of a salary to realistically be part of this, and I also think she might turn it down anyway. That's why I didn't consider Julia Roberts much at all.

That's a big part of why I would be pushing very hard for Angie Harmon no matter what. She probably would not demand nearly as much of a salary to do the movie as Ashley Judd or Julia Roberts, and she does have a huge fan base from her days as Abbie Carmichael on Law & Order, including being considered responsible for bringing in many male viewers to "L & O" that normally are very difficult to get to watch anything on TV that isn't sports. The fact Angie is also a Dallas-area native to me is also a huge plus. All of the above is why I would also go for Stephanie March as Pam, especially with her fans from Special Victims Unit, and in both cases, I think this remake can bring them into the "A-List" of movie actors.

The big names are nice to have if you can get them, but I won't go for all big names, especially where I feel there are better actors who are just as good I can get for a lower salary and I know also have built-in fan bases who would come an see them no matter what. Aside from Angie and Stephanie, another perfect example of this would have been Holly Marie Combs of Charmed, who three years ago had a small cameo as herself in the remake of Oceans Eleven. A ton of people who otherwise would never have seen the film did just because Holly was in it, and she was only seen at the very beginning of the film. While I also think she'd be great as Pam for instance, I don't know if she could do it because she gave birth to her first child in April and is about to begin filming the seventh season of Charmed. Otherwise, I would probably have seriously considered her as well. It's also why I like Reiko Aylesworth as a possibility for Pam now Sarah Clarke as a possibility for Donna, as both actors have considerable fan bases from 24 who would in my opinion come into the mix just to see them as well.

Hope this help explain why I listed so many current Law & Order franchise cast and alumni for possible roles in this big-screen remake idea.

Oh, but Reiko Aylesworth or Stephanie March or whoever the heck he's talking about would just bring all of her zillions of fans to see the movie! Because she's such a huge name in the movies! Despite the fact that 99% of the population has never even heard of her!

I don't mean to sound nasty, but this "Law & Order" stuff is ridiculous. Especially since we're seeing the same exact ideas and posts repeated ad nauseum by the same person.
