Just to let everyone know that Anne Nolan, the eldest of The Nolan Sisters has a new Single out to raise money for charity and an Album out in June.

It looks great and will hopefully be a success!

Hi again, all! Still a fan of The Nolans and have collected most of their Albums, now! Still looking for a few more of their CDs, also have discovered a bit more about them.

*The above video fo their classic hit signature tune, as sung in (mostly) in Japanese is because there actually aren't some words in English that can be translated into Japanese, so the Japanese use the English versions anyway, especially when it comes to songs. There are also two different 'types' of Japanese - the kanji and ~kana - with the first one being the more common throughout Asia, most notably China and Japan.
*Coleen didn't actually contribute any vocals to "I'm In The Mood For Dancing", despite being featured on the Album and Single covers AND being featured in the original music video for it!
*Their Father, Tommy Nolan, Senior, had an affair while his wife was pregnant with their second daughter, Denise, and thus fathered another child, a girl, so there is actually another middle-aged 'un-official' Nolan Sister somewhere out here in Dublin!
*Their Father was quite an abusive man, he beat-up his wife, raped Anne and used to hit Coleen when she was a small child aswell.
*The original line-up of The Nolan Sisters did not include Coleen, as she was still a child. They were: Anne, Denise, Maureen, Linda and Bernadette.
*In the space of a year, The Nolans were so popular in Japan in the late '80's/early '90's, that at one time they recorded seven Albums purely for the Japnese market, most of which were of new, freshly-translated English versions of songs that been popular for other performers in Japan. Such popular groups include an Album, "Playback Part 2", consisting completely of Momoe Yamaguchi songs - which was re-released in 2005 with new, additional vocal contributions to each of the songs by Anne and Maureen, who were two of The Original Nolan Sisters, still together as a duo, and this new version, a re-wroking of sorts, of the original Album, was titled "The Nolans Sing Momoe 2005". Another Album was "The Hottest Place On Earth", mostly of songs originally by Princess Princess.

I remember when I first saw this, I didn't recognise Linda at first. Thanks for posting it here Mike!

I think the Japanese version isn't essentially the same thing. The words might have a different meaning in Japanese. Maybe Bernie just forgot how to say "Yeah, let's dance!" in Japanese, LoL!

I don't think the "Disco Party Classics" album is the same as the "Very Best Of The Nolans" album after all. They have different track listings and I'm still trying to find the 1989 and 1995 versions of "I'm In The Mood For Dancing" on CD.

Got another one of their albums today: the appropriately-titled "I'm In The Mood For Dancing", containing yet another set of re-recordings of some of their hits. The version of "I'm In The Mood For Dancing" sounds pretty good on this one too! I like all the different versions of their songs. I wonder if there are any more out there?!?!

I know you are all (or probabaly already ARE) judging me over my thread on The Nolans, but I got ANOTHER one of their albums today - and so far, it's pretty GOOD! Apropriately titled "Disco Party Classics", this album seems to be a re-releasing of "Very Best Of The Nolans", but I cannot be sure as I have not managed to get a copy of the latter just yet. This album is a selection of updated re-recordings of some of their very best hits and a few covers of other songs made popular by other artists aswell.

The version "I'm In The Mood For Dancing" as featured on this CD compilation is, I presume, the popular 1995 re-recording, which, like their 1989 take (which DOES sound like a remix, but was actually a then-brand new recording featuring Anne, Maureen, Bernie and Coleen), was well-received. In this nice and almost Hawai'ian-sounding version, there are a few added bars and the song has a slightly slower beat to it, but it is a very good version, which is bith refreshing and really makes you want to do the popular updated dance moves that were put together for the 1990's when they would promote the song on various TV shows and at concerts.

Another new favourite song of theirs for me is "Gotta Pull Myself Together" - it's so CATCHY! Their fun and quirky dance moves make it another one of their songs that you want to get up and dance to.

As for their well-known trademark of covering songs made popular by other artists, I like Coleens solo cover of "Eternal Flame" (as featured on their 2009 Reunion Tour album "I'm In The Mood Again"), which I PREFER to The Bangles original version. I picked-up a compilation CD by The Bangles last week (after hearing a few seconds of "Eternal Flame" online a few days earlier) and, while their version of "Eternal Flame" isn't THAT bad, The Nolans take on it just sounds better.

In case you're wondering how much of a fan of The Nolans I have become, I know most of the words to the Japanese version of "I'm In The Mood For Dancing". I listened to it and typed it out by spelling the words by the way they sound, it's a very rough typed-version, but I think I have most of it correct. I have spotted a few errors, but since I'm not fluent in Japanese, I'm not sure of the correct spelling or pronunciation.

Anyway, back to this CD of their I bought today, on Track 16: "Spirit Body And Soul", the opening few bars of music sound like a slower version of "I'm In The Mood For Dancing" (similar to what Eurythmics did with the last few lines of "17 Again"). Overall, it sounds nice and it made me think that a slow version of "I'm In The Modd For Dancing" song would be nice to hear.

I haven't listened to all of "Disco Party Classics" yet, but so far it's not bad and these re-recordings are very good and a nice change.

They seem like nice-enough people though, exc ept for Coleen, she seems like a bit or a cow. Oh okay, I'll go and say it - she's a totally fugly slut and her 'book' is full of lies apparently, according to her Sister Denise.

Since I like live show DVD's, I bought The Nolans Live DVD. It was okay, nothing great. The only thing that I wasn't mad about was the amount of songs which they cover. They don't seem to have much original materialnd their make-up and clothes were ALL WRONG! They are dressed in stupid-looking costumes and their black eye shadow doesn't work at all. I think Coleen was the wrost looking of them all. To be quite honest, they look like drag queens. Seriously! One of the other bad things about the DVD are the short 'music videos' for two songs that they cover. First of all, they are lip-syncing - BADLY and Coleen even misses her cue for the beginning of "I Will Survive". It is cringeworthy, honestly! Another thing I don't like is the way Anne wasn't asked back. The only really good cover was Maureen's version of "Valerie", but she is trying to sound too much like Amy Winehouse and Bernie's cover of "So What" isn't much better either. They should leave other artists songs well-alone and stick to their own, limited amount of material.

Also, their latest CD release sounds too much like something recorded from a karaoke bar and the over-use of synthesized orchestras doesn't help much either. The sisters all say they did the reunion tour and CD because it was Universal who put it together, but I don't really believe that for a second. COME ON - they obviously needed the cash! Anne spilled the beans on everything and said in her autobiography that it was definitely done for cash and nothing more.

I've come to like them a bit more now. I think Linda is my favourite! I bought Anne and Coleen's books. I have read a bit of each and they are both very good. Their Father was such a terrible man though, he sexually abused Anne when she was a young girl, he literally forced his children to sing, something Coleen touched-on in their 2009 Documentary. It's amazing how big The Nolans were/are, especially in Japan, where they outsold The Beatles! I want to get a few more of their albums hopefully. However, the only thing that bothers me a little bit is how they tend to focus on doing covers of other artists songs instead of being given (or, at least, attempting to create some) original songs. Some of their covers are a little cringeworthy, most notably their cover of "Thank You For The Music" by ABBA, which has an unusual mix of orchestra music and over-loud heavy synthesizers, which don't really work together.

They're fundamentally evil. Though it's fun to lip-synch to "I'm In The Mood For Dancing" in the style of Kurt Cobain.
