I think Abby loved Gary's last name EWING and what it could bring to her life,MONEY,PRESTIGE, JR's association and Jock's will. She knew Gary was weak when he was married to Val, that's why she went after him, she knew she could play on Gary's weaknesses and take him from Val. Abby never would have gotten an inch with Bobby Ewing if he was living across the street from her. I do believe that Abby actually fell in love with Greg, but all the Lotus Point dealings she did before the marriage put her in too deep, to just be his partner and wife. I think Greg may "toy" with all these other women years after Abby has gone, but in the end he has feelings for Abby. Abby could love someone like Greg.

I think that Abby did have feelings for Gary, but her self preservation instincts were so well developed that, as Alex says, she knew better than to depend on him. ("If I have to choose between love and money ...")

Abby did seem to have a thing for weak men, at least initially: Charles Scott, Jeff Cunningham, Richard, Gary. True, Charles and Gary had money, and Richard was at least geographically desirable - but why on earth did she marry Jeff?? Could it have been love?

Abby cared for Gary as much as she was able to care for anyone. Except for Brian, Olivia and big brother Sid, it would seem that anyone else is "expendible."

There have been brief moments where we saw her more caring side -- giving a kidney to Diana, her honest concern for reuniting Val with her babies, her pleading with Karen to keep an eye on Olivia -- but they were few and far between.

I do think that she is capable of loving a husband -- I like how she truly is in love with Jack Ewing on KL Reborn (or at least she was last time I read an episode).

I've always believed that Abby did love Gary. They were compatible in their attitudes to business and risk-taking. She knew that he was one of those Ewings and she probably expected that he would eventually come into money but she couldn't have known that Jock would die so soon - even the writers didn't know that.

"The doctor asked me if I wanted to know the baby's sex now or be surprised so I said, 'Surprise me now.'"

I think with Abby and Gary it was more of a sexual thing. But more than that, I think Abby saw Gary as too flakey to depend upon. She had to take care of herself and her kids first. Also, as she said herself, what Gary loved most was the cheating; I don't think Abby was dumb enough to put much faith in a cheater... I think if Gary were more stable, ambitious, and loyal, she could have loved him MORE - but he wasn't any of those things, and she probably grew to hate him for all the same reasons that Val loved him so much.
Really, there was no man on this show that Abby could let her guard down long enough to love. Greg was too selfish and hung up on Paige, Melcher was too nutso, Richard too smarmy, Peter too tortured, Charles too much of a thing of the past, etc.
Was there anyone in Knots Landing that could have served as Abby's equal?

I think Val and Gary are all right together. he's such a wimp and she's so sweet and kind that they worked together.

Abby seemed mainly interested in Gary's money. She wasn't honest to Gary, especially when she screwed him out of money and when she hired Cathy to keep him distracted from finding out about her secret dealings. Then later on she tried to get Peter to keep Jill away from Gary. She definitely didn't love Gary like Val did. Val was faithful to Gary and would never try to con him in any way.

I'm not convinced that Abby was capable of a true man/woman love. She was so devious and went to great lengths to be underhanded. This tells me she was not capable of truly loving Gary or Greg. When she was younger she may have indeed loved Charles Scott, but I saw no indication that she loved anyone else other than Sid, Olivia and Brian.

I don't know and i would like to know your thoughts.

I was just watching the episode where Gary went to Jail for Ciji's murder and Abby walked in on him while he was going through withdrawl. I think she really cared about him for that second but I also know that she wanted to keep him in jail because she wanted to control his money.

Do you think there was examples of Abby caring for Gary? We all know Gary cared for Abby back in the day. He liked the sex but i think he also had some good feelings for her.
