First, i'm pretty sure (95%) that it will ruin the name and brand of "Dynasty" for the next centuries.
Second, i'm not a fan of reboots at all (if the original was good and successful), either do a proper continuation or let it rest in peace, because all else is unnecessary!

What made Dynasty big doesn't work on today's tv landscape, unless it's transferred into a cop show or has vampires in it :re:, so nothing i would want to watch.

I really don't get it. Why not a continuation? Joan and Linda are still alive and are willing to do it as they stated several times, hell they (along with John, Gordon and Stephanie) even campaigned for it and were looking for a network already, why not let them reprise the roles of their lifes?!
It still could have lot of youngsters to attract the so important key demo audience, the Carringtons and Colbys had children and grandchildren.
    So what's wrong with that?
Sorry ... i don't get it and i don't like it, doesn't matter how good or bad it will be, because this will be the final nail in the coffin that we'll ever see a Dynasty with Joan as Alexis and Linda as Krystle again in our lives! And i hate that thought and therefore this new project, because it ultimately kills the Dynasty that i know and love and want.
    My thoughts. :)

I pretty much feel the same. I think it's stupid the way they are doing it and who they have creating it.

Yeah. All the time i thought (and HOPED) it was all just some kind of a (somehow funny) hoax, but now that crap seems to get real! A hispanic and misspelled Krystle! For god's sake! :re:
I could live with TNT Dallas and even enjoyed some parts, because it HAD the old heroes on board and some few things they got right, like J.R.s funeral - - plus i never was that huge of a Dallas fan anyway.
But Dynasty is a real passion of mine, so this farce now starts to make me really angry!

It's exactly how true Dallas fans felt and still feel. Dynasty wasn't my thing like Dallas was but I get your concerns regarding the re-boot, it seems unwarranted. You would think a continuation would be more appropriate however look how TNT Dallas played out - it was atrocious. In my opinion I don't think Dynasty had such a rich history like Dallas did (we can politely argue on that point) but there is enough back-story there for Dynasty to commence as a continuation.

If Dynasty 2.0 is going to parallel the original story I don't see the point as there are far too many fans of the original ready to pounce with their critiques.
Cynthia Cidre tried this with her version of Dallas (drug barons rather than oil barons) and no one was buying it. Perhaps re-introducing Katherine Wentworth to TNT Dallas as Countess Katherine could have been a stroke of genius because she could certainly suck the life out of few people. :lolo:

i didn't think the reboot of Dallas was THAT BAD. though a remake of this is really unneeded. i do hope they at least do a tv movie to finish the last Dallas Storyline at some point

I completely understand and echo your point of view. But I also see a lot of technical difficulties in bringing a successful continuation to life. As we've seen with TNT's Dallas, it's not very easy. In fact, soaps are arguably the most difficult genre to get right even without the added pressure of continuing an existing narrative.

First of all, who is the right person to do it? The Shapiros botched The Reunion just 2 years after the original series ended. How could they possibly restart the show almost 30 years after its cancellation? And if the original creators don't get the show, how can you expect anyone else to bring the original magic to the table, when everyone most certainly believes the perverted view it's all about catfights and caviar.

The original cast is mostly in their 60s-80s, some of whom haven't aged well. As we've seen on TNT's Dallas, when you mesh the originals with a bunch of CW models in their 20s-30s, the gap is just too wide.

Finally, the original series aired at a time when soaps were not only all the rage, but we hadn't see anything truly like it on TV. Television itself was only about 30 years old and its early days were littered with variety and westerns. So, it was fresh and exciting. In the meantime, soaps about the rich, and ex-wives coming back to cause trouble, and women bitch-slapping the hell out of one another have been done to death.

In order to succeed, you need a fresh and original take on the old formula. EMPIRE did it for a while with their hip-hop setting and black leads. I see this nuDYNASTY as an attempt to again re-invent the old in order to stand out among the clutter of 400+ shows on the air. It will likely fail, but it's worth a try, and I don't think it could've happened any other way.

Even though I'm sure all of us here have ideas for a straight-forward continuation and firmly believe we could've done it.

Thank you so much for pointing that all out. I'm getting so sick and tired of everybody whining about it. I mean, come on, people, WHAT DID YOU ALL EXPECT?

It's on The CW... Lets be real. I have mentioned continually that my expectations were low. Somewhere between Gossip Girl, The OC and 90210 was what I predicted. Early days of course, but it would appear I was right on the money.

I'm sure you'll love it though. :yep:

Well surely as a DYNASTY fan you can see how that's not the reaction to the show some viewers would want?

I prefer to laugh about the original, i don't need a plastic imitation of it to have fun with Dynasty. :D

Now you make it sound as if it's *impossible* to do it right (whatever that "right" is) and that we should lower our standards.

As much as I love the original cast, I don't believe in a continuation story. Perhaps 10 years ago when Joan did Footballer's Wives...but not anymore.
It *is* possible to turn this thing into something spectacular, especially if they avoid the original show's problems.

But it seems they are very keen on creating NEW problems.

Well it's clear they are aiming this show at late teens maybe early twenties people. They don't seem at all concerned with attracting the original shows fans.

Maybe they realized quite early on that with that network's budget and the Shapiro's attitude they just can't. ;)

That's not necessarily a bad decision, if that's the kind of show they want to sell. But it doesn't make sense because the teens & twinks won't be able to make the connection, so it'll be just another show about pretty teens bitching at eachother. That way, the DYNASTY brand will have NO value whatsoever.

Yes. Kinda like Season 7B of the original.
Maybe they should hire Cassie Yates. If nothing else works, she could still stamp the carpets down with her boots. :D
