If this Dynasty fails to live up to our expectations (which it's showing signs of).....

......Then will seasons 3-8 be forgiven?

Because so the new PTB don't seem to have any clue of what made Dynasty, Dynasty, I know it's a reboot and it can take some liberties, but this is taking the biscuit.

I have an awful feeling that Alexis will not be included in this, there's been no word on her so far, I hope she is introduced in season 2, if they get that far, but it seems they're already introducing a male version of Sammy Jo and she was introduced in season 2 in the original series along with Alexis.

Not including Alexis, reboot or continuation would be like not including JR in Dallas mk2,
    it just wouldn't happen.

And making it a Fallon/Jeff vs Blake thing would be weird, though I don't want to judge the show before it's even aired yet, I hope it does become a success and in a years time we'll be lauding it up.

Why is this already such a big concern? I see complaints (including mine) about all the differences, but a season 1 without Alexis would be 100% accurate, so....?
Apparently they'll start with the Cristal-Fallon feud (just like the first time) and Alexis, as another rival, would disturb the flow and focus of this particular storyline.

There shouldn't be too much going on right from the start, imho. It needs time to develop, and build the anticipation for Alexis' return to Denver (or Atlanta or Hoboken).

Yes. So far I myself am not too concerned with how this show will go. I intend to wait and actually see the episodes for myself. That's when I'll make my judgments.

Fans tend to forget what the first season was like, and who was in it.

It isn't that fans forget there was no Alexis in season 1. It's that TV has changed a lot form the 1980s. Now shows rarely get time to make it work. They don't really have the luxury of waiting to season 2 to add a star character. I would have her waiting in the wings for season 1, in case ratings start to drop. She should be mentioned a lot.

The question is, would she be the star character, this time around, how would the series have been if joan was not the one playing alexis?

I agree and mostly blame the executives behind the scenes making such rash decisions. Dallas would have been cancelled by today's standards since it took a while for the show to find its audience. The recent series "Oil" was a prime example how not to inflict a program onto viewers. The story and cardboard cutout characters were thrust down our throat from the get go, it all felt forced. Unless a new series is drawing in the ratings from episode 1 then it's usually canned - pity the viewers who begin to invest their time.

Some years ago a commercial network here in Australia purchased an American series (I'm assuming as part of their contract deals they have with production houses). The big wigs thought no one was going to watch it so dumped it to our summer viewing. TV Executives here in Oz believe most of us are spending all summer outdoors and watch very little television. How wrong they were as this little program began to build quite a following - probably because there wasn't much else on. I'm talking about "Gilmore Girls."

Maybe the commercial networks should try something different and begin a new series during their off season. Allow a show to quietly build a loyal audience and for good measure the executives should show some confidence and order a full season up front instead of this ridiculous 10 episode nonsense. Create a good story with a beginning, middle and end with a great twist.

    But then...I'm dreaming.

40 years ago there were complaints that TV series aren't given a chance to develop, many cancelled within weeks even then. The original DYNASTY didn't really bomb in the ratings during its first season, even though there wasn't much buzz surrounding it. Its ratings were adequate enough to be renewed for a second season, and the reason they almost cancelled it was that ABC wanted it to be their answer to CBS' DALLAS, which was #1 all over the world. So the network's lofty ambitions for DYNASTY made them too impatient with it. (It still got renewed, but only because of Spelling's clout).

Makes me wonder if Aaron Spelling would be just as successful in today's television landscape. He certainly produced some good series, too many to name.

    I was just thinking

Dynasty mk1 was drenched with the neoliberal, Reganomic, Thatcherist, "rich people good, poor people bad" ideology in a time when conservative ideals were in force

Dynasty mk2 however will face an interesting sociological backdrop, while politically especially in
Britain and America things have taken a massive shift to the right, more so than in the 1980s, society however is mostly overwhelmingly liberal and far left ideals aren't dismissed anymore.

So instead of the "rich people good, poor people bad" ethos we got for most of the original series run will Dynasty mk2's message be "white, cisgendered, heterosexual, Christian male's are evil and
women, POC, religious minorities, LGBT, gender fluid folk angelic"?

Dynasty mk2 will certainly have premiered in a very interesting time like its predecessor did nearly 4 decades ago

It's an interesting way of looking at it. I'm also wondering if the writers would be so bold in being offensive to it's viewers or will they play the neutral (we don't wish to offend anyone brigade). I detest political correctness. It actually has the desired effect of stifling debate rather than move the conversation forward. Donald Trump becoming President has caused the ideological youth at my work place to have "the sky is falling in" reaction. The moment I attempt to argue you have to respect the voters (and yes I understand Hillary received more votes nationally than Donald) they start nipping at my heals believing I'm a Trump loving Neo-Nazi White Supremacist. This kind of rational makes me laugh out loud and my response to their screaming hissy fits is, "sometimes the other side wins" at which point their dumbfounded since their belief is no other side exists apart from their own. However getting back to your thoughts.

If Dynasty 2.0 is going to present itself as just another "soap" with the standard villains, stories that don't challenge our ideals than it has set itself up for cancellation.
