With Ann's brother coming into the show what should he be like and who should he be involved with?

I am guessing he will be Ann's younger brother, good looking, gay and hating Ann for leaving him alone with their drug addict abusive mother.

I would prefer he was Ann's older brother, poor and maybe gets involved with Lucy. He is an international drug smuggler and hides heroin on Lucy and sends her off to exotic places to deliver parcels. :D Lucy gets arrested in Bangkok and thrown into the notorious Bangkok Hilton women's prison. Lucy is terrified out of her tiny tiny socks but can't get a message back home.

Or maybe he can be Ann's brother can be black like Dominique Deveraux (David Jacobs would be thrilled) or maybe he could actually be Dominique Deveraux going through a sex change.

Oh the possibilities.

So what would you like Ann's brother to be like and who should he be involved with?

Artistic license vs continuity blunders

Is there ever a time a writer/producer can exercise artistic license to set up a dynamic or tell a story? The line between artistic license and continuity blunder seem somewhat blurred. Is one more acceptable than the other?

For example I see the importance to the writers of setting up John Ross as part owner of Southfork. For story development and character dynamics it's great. The idea that Miss Ellie just handed over Southfork to Bobby happened as we saw in the original but it was always restrictive and stunted any future drama. Of course there are other ways they could have done it, such as Bobby being handed a letter from Ellie on JR's death requesting he give up half his shares of SF. Bobby being so moral would do that.

It's also the same with Cliff. I can understand that he would go psycho if had absolute power. I can even imagine the character at the point he needed to make the decision to steal Christopher's shares. Walking up and down, mouth slightly opened, stressed, instructs them to keep Pam alive, hangs up the phone partly remorseful and then justifies in a Cliff kind of way. Then I can imagine his rise to power and him becoming more and more corrupt over the years.

Of course there was Elena and her mother's backstory.

Then you have lazy continuity blunders such as not knowing about Braddock.

Are some things more acceptable than others?

SPOILER ALERT!!!

SPOILER ALERT!!!

-The season begins with Emma and Judith found floating in the Southfork Pool. Their bodies are found by Bobby. Bobby, knowing Anne did the deed, lies to protect his wife. Ann finally confesses and a long court battle begins. After riveting testimony from Sue Ellen, detailing Anne’s many years of suffering being married to the boring as shit Bobby Ewing, exonerate her with 6 months of probation.

-While snooping around the Southfork basement, Pamela Rebecca finds a codicil to Miss Ellie’s will leaving a third of Southfork to Rose McKay. Rose returns to Southfork, still wearing her daisy dukes and tank tops to claim what is rightfully hers!

-On a drunken night out, John Ross ties one on and ends up in a motel bed with another drunken slut. As the sun comes up, John Ross regains composure and discovers the cougar he just banged is his cousin Lucy! How will John Ross handle finding out the deep crevice he entered was the withered, wrinkled and dusty cavity of his kooky cousin? How will Lucy handle finding out more family has sampled her vagina than Carmen’s cooking?

-Speaking of Carmen, it will be revealed that her heartache over raising two such stupid children finally took its toll. After again failing to getting Elena to eat a carb, she uses a turkey baster to inject vaginally poison gravy, dying in an uncomfortable mix of sexual ecstasy and that tiredness and bloaty feeling we all get after a big holiday dinner.

-After her mother’s death, Elena decides to remain in Mexico with Joaquin. Joaquin, aside from his drug cartel duties, is a huge Ricky Martin fan! Although reluctant, Elena agrees to follow in him on his quest to follow One Direction on their world tour. After months of trying to lure him into the sack in every city the band played in, Elena decides to grant his wish and go ahead with a sex change to finally gain his love. Thankfully due to her slim figure, a breast reduction is not required. Elena is now known simply as Harry.

-Pamela Barnes, alive and well and living in Quebec, tunnels in her way into the Mexican prison, tortures, then murders, her brother Cliff and heads to Paris to see her plastic surgeon. After having herself surgically turned into the spitting image of Teresa, Pamela heads to Dallas to apply for Carmen’s old job.

-Cancer again takes its toll on the Ewing Clan. After Bobby’s struggle, and J.R.’s death from the deadly disease, this time it is Christopher who faces the fight of life. Years of self massaging his man boobs have lead to cysts. A double mastectomy is his only hope! Will he face it with the same strength of his ‘related to by adoption’ grandmother or will he crumble in fear.

-J.R.’s masterpiece continues to take twists and turns. Vanessa Beaumont, Cally, Mandy, Holly, Serena, Sly, Martha, Lily, Sophia, Helen Mirren and Russell Brand all compare notes only to find out they all too got letters from J.R. asking for a date upon his return to the States.

After finding out she was indeed not J.R. one true love, Sue Ellen goes on a bender, blinded by alcohol, ends up in bed with another drunken slut. As the sunlight rises, Sue Ellen turns over to find John Ross by her side.

Freeze Frame

So I just finished watching season 12 of the original series, and I'm thinking this is supposed to be around the time Pam would have died (1989), when Cliff was supposedly paying off her doctor and nurse to hide her death so that he could control Pam's shares of Barnes Global (a company that didn't exist at the time), making Bobby and Christopher believe that Pam didn't want anything to do with them. If you pay attention to Cliff's behavior during this time period, it doesn't fit.

Cliff is actually a nice guy during this season. He's likable. He's fun to be around. He's working with Bobby at Ewing Oil and they're getting along well. He's good friends with April Stevens (beforehand he wasn't capable of being good friends with anyone). He's being a great uncle (father figure) to Christopher, playing video computer games with him and taking him fishing. He sees Afton again and falls back in love with her, realizing how stupid he was to let her go all those years ago. He finds out he has a daughter and he wants to marry Afton and be a family. He talks about how family is more important than money. He actually says, "It's not about money." He seems like a man who has finally grown up and become a decent person. And yet we are supposed to believe what he is doing behind the scenes regarding his sister?

My issue is this: I don't really have a problem with Cidre's idea for what Cliff did. I have a problem with the time frame. Why couldn't this have happened after the series ended in 1991? I'm still trying to figure out how Cliff got from point A to point B in the last 20 years. How he got so evil.

Sorry if anybody thinks I'm being nitpicky. I probably am. But I'm just making conversation. Your thoughts?

I don't start too many threads but I thought I'd try this one! So much debate has been surrounded on the things we don't like and issues relating to Dallas V1 in comparison to Dallas V2 and so forth. I have no problems with that. If I was a producer for the new series I'd see all this as feedback (be it positive or negative) from people who care about my show!

Ultimately, my feelings right now is what can we (the fans) do to ensure that we help PD, LG & (LH)'s dream of having this new Dallas run as long as the original (they all said this in an early interview prior to S1). I'm very sad that Larry is no longer with us but I'm sure he'd want the show to go on. I think it should to be a constant reminder of his legacy and commitment to this great show and a great way to honour him.

Even if you don't like how this new series is evolving - I know most will still watch on (at least out of curiosity) we are fans, some for a long time (since the early days when the original started), some are a little younger (like me - I think I originally started watching from season 7 or 8 of Dallas V1 but now have watched ALL seasons multiple times!), probably some younger again (later seasons) and now the newbies (started watching new series only - & probably watching old series on DVD). We can get upset or happy with other posters on here at times but why does this happen. Two reasons - because in some way shape or form DALLAS has touched our lives and we are very PASSIONATE about the series.

So what can we do? TV shows are all about the numbers right! Simple - just get behind the show & commit to watching it. I'm an (often frustrated) international viewer & I believe (from seeing other threads on here) that the international numbers are up so it seems we are doing our part - but we still can improve. I also read on here that many (in the US) found it hard to watch S2 due to the season / time / day changes to the show's programming. No matter when it's on over here, I will watch! (or at very least record it).

I've got plenty of my own ideas about where this series should head, however I won't just switch off if the ongoing series does not go the same way as mine, or if continuity errors keep happening (I might get a little annoyed though!). Number one is I'm a fan of the SERIES. I don't necessarily have to be a fan of the Show-runner or the Director / Producer or even certain characters (not saying that I am or aren't)

I like reading everyone's opinions on our favourite show on this forum. My main call here is to let the world know WE WANT MORE DALLAS for years to come. As the new announcement from TNT read "There are plenty of more stories to tell". To those who say they are 'switching off' because they are unhappy with the direction of the show & other reasons, I ask you to consider my point of view (in the previous paragraph in particular). Wherever this series heads, I for one will follow it!

So whether you love the show, like the show or just have a slight interest in the show, LET OUR VOICES BE HEARD!
WATCH SEASON 3 & DEMAND MORE SEASONS.

RATINGS ARE THE ONLY THING THAT WILL KEEP OUR BELOVED SHOW / SERIES ON THE AIR! LET'S DO WHAT WE CAN TO ENSURE THE SURVIVAL OF DALLAS! IT'S WHAT LARRY WOULD WANT!

Give me a thumbs up &/or make your reply if you wish. Lets get the numbers so the powers that be notice !!!!!!

I realise that this could be just a 'pipe-dream' but hey, I remember growing up and being taught to think big!

Remember, a water fall starts with a drop of water...:thankyou:

Hi all,

I just wanted to start this thread to see if I am alone in sometimes feeling like I'm an idiot or stupid for liking the new Dallas?

Sometimes when I post in threads where people are complaining about some aspect of the show I come away feeling like I have missed something completely, like I have poor taste or as though I am some-how being blasphemous toward the old Dallas by liking the new.

Is there genuinely something I am not seeing or understanding or do I really have terrible taste? Do I just not understand Dallas?

I often feel like I shouldn't post my opinions and I don't like it.

Please understand I'm not trying to start an argument here or offend anyone .....I just wonder if it's just me or if anyone else has experienced this?

I have at times been a little flippant with new Dallas but it has made me realize how I have taken new Dallas on board as concrete season 14 and 15.

For example Afton arrived on CBS Drama in their rerun yesterday and I am instantly connecting her to the Afton who turns up in the recent series. How this minor character will turn out to be the mother of a significant lead character years later. I always liked Afton but in a take or leave her kind of way but now she holds a far more substantial position. Suddenly watching her now the dots are connected and she is no longer just 'Afton', she is now Afton the mother of John Ross's wife. When she walks down the stairs and bumps into Sue Ellen, suddenly the scene has a whole new gravitas.

I watch Pam scenes and knowledge that she is dead jump into my viewing. The same with JR.

Also watching Sue Ellen and Bobby together I connect it all to their relationship in new Dallas. Sue Ellen is particularly interesting, encouraging JR to beat Bobby, undermining Bobby "You are JR's younger brother" with the wicked bitchy comments. Then it all swiftly fits into Sue Ellen supporting John Ross in 2013.

It's really fascinating.

The old series is far more of a gentle experience, I wouldn't say it's slower but it's padded out and has a humor that makes it highly enjoyable. New Dallas just thrusts into the action. Many of the plots have a resemblance to those in old Dallas but it cuts right to the chase. I would like to see some padding, just a bit to balance it out. There are also more individual character plots in original Dallas - Pam's isolation after being rejected by her mother, Sue Ellen and Dusty etc and they manage to pull it in to the main story arcs.

New Dallas needs an american Julian Fellowes to get that same result with the show...or maybe Lord Fellowes can merely give soem helpful advice to the Cidre woman.

Cidre and her team do not have me convinced at all that they understand what made Dallas work to begin with, the things that made Dallas the phenomenon it became. In the first two seasons they were able to cover up for that for a few reasons: They had the curiosity of original Dallas fans on their side, they had Patrick Duffy, Linda Gray, and especially Larry Hagman. After Larry Hagman died, season two could coast on the momentum of the "Who killed JR storyline." Now that's resolved.

If season 3 is going to be a success, or at least finish showing all 15 episodes without being cancelled, for the first time Cidre and her team are going to have to succeed pretty much on their own merits and they haven't convinced me they know how to do that. Worse, not only do they look like they still don't understand what made Dallas work, they don't even seem to care.

There are people who do understand what made it work and would have the fire and the enthusiasm to continue Dallas using the concepts that made Dallas the most successful TV show in the world but unfortunately, for whatever reason, TNT seems confident that Cidre and her team have the insight and the discernment to know what to do to keep Dallas going. It's gonna be quite a while until they have to start making season three. TNT has got plenty of time to reconsider and hire a team of more competent people to do the job; let's just hope they do that.
