Oh dear, well I'm probably alone in this but I thought the fire episode was dreadful.

I ended up laughing along with my mum on 3 occassions, Peggy running around like she was back in a Carry on film, the ladder falling and Barbara dressed as ET in a blanket.

It lacked suspense, it lacked realism. It was just OTT and seemed a wasted opportunity.

I'm not sure if the main point was to be shocked at all the explosions. But normally when there is high drama I get emotionally involved but with this it was just like weird comedy with people running in and out of the pub.

I feel sorry for people who had the subtitles, it must of been just one "Fire, ahhh"

I think that was most of the dialogue.

The best fire episode of a soap for me was Corrie back in the day, there was something horrible about being asleep and in the early hours of the morning. Plus it was quiter, I think that made it rather intense.

Actually the same in Dallas when Southfork burned. There is something more intense when people are sleeping.

Not impressed.

I have really enjoyed the introduction of both Lawrence and James. Such a shame it was during the dreadful Molly story.

I think it's great that they have used William Roache's two sons, they fit so well with Ken on the show. It was fun to see Deirdre realise how a-like both Lawrence and Ken really are. (It reminds me of the days when Knots Landing used Bill Devane's son Josh to play a young Greg which worked so well)

I think the potential for these two characters is pretty high, especially when you look at how complicated the Barlow's back story is.

I'm not sure how long they stick around, but I hope it's a decent stay rather than a quick story filler that just blends in the background.

Thirdly, anybody else notice how [the actor who has been cast to play] Jackson resembles Gordon Buchanan - wildlife cameraman/presenter who features on BBC's Springwatch??
And anybody else wonder if Emmerdale's producers looked to Laura Ashley for inspiration when coming up with the coupling of the character names Laurel and Ashley?
And, last but not least, anybody else agree that that rubbishly-acted snivelling sack of husky-voiced crap Nathan Wylde is practically a dead ringer for that sloaney smoothie Sebastian from 80s series Brideshead Revisited??

Friday nights episode of Eastender was a real treat. This whole build up to Peggy's exit is wonderful.

Although I am finding Mcfaddens cheek patting of Peggy rather annoying, does he really need to do it on every encounter :D

The storylines are flowing really well since the ridiculous Lucas thing ended. Becca was such a wonderful character. The actress was brillient and she made Becca believeable.

The showdown was excellent. But when you get Jean and Stacey in a dramatic plotline it always is a real treat. Rather than these big reveals in the pub or at a party I prefer it when it feels like it flows more natural. Which this did.

It was also brillient seeing Peggy at the drug den. After all these years I find myself feeling some empathy for Peggy.

All they hoorah around Diedrick running the show I could never quite grasp. Instead of decent writing he went ott. Now it feels the balance is right. I hope it remains.

Its really good at the moment. I'm also not dreading Alfie and Kat as much as I was. Perhaps with a more serious slant on the characters all will be forgiven.

The Cast of Emmerdale who will soon be appearing in HD

ITV is investing £5 million in securing the future of Emmerdale when it moves to high definition.

Work on transforming the Kirkstall road studios in Leeds (home to hits including Heatbeat, Rising Damp, 321 and A Touch of Frost) to make them HD compatible began 5 weeks ago and is expected to complete in the Spring.

Last year, after posting record losses the ITV studios on Kirstall road were effectively mothballed with production of the 6 times a week soap switching to nearby studios on Burley road.

But then in December, after an internal review, ITV announced the £5 million upgrade and also that Emmerdale would be locating back to the new purpose built studios once work had been completed.

From next summer, all in house scenes including those in the famous Woolpack pub will be recorded in the new digital studios meaning that fans of the soap will be able to watch it for the first time in high definition.

ITV chiefs have said that the £5 million investment demonstrated its ongoing commitment to Emmerdale which regularly attracts up to 7 million viewers and is seen in over 100 countries around the world making it one of ITV's best performing and most popular shows.

Have to say that I generally HATE wedding storylines in soaps, because 99 per cent of them always end in tears and misery and the rest - so predictable. However, although I initially had misgivings about this latest Corrie wedding yarn, I have now, after seeing Monday's episodes - especially the second one, decided that it stands amongst the most enjoyable, cheerful and downright hilarious Corrie episodes for ages.

Just everything about it was enjoyable - the inspired setting (East Lancashire/Bury - Rawtenstall Steam railway - a great attraction as it stands for the more nostalgically-obsessed amongst us), the dialogue, the fisticuffs between Sally and Harridan Peacock, the moments of pure comedic genius (Hayley, Becky and Fiz doing EXACTLY what the Belles Of St Trinians did all them years ago when they discovered by sheer good fortune an abandoned 'see-saw' lever shunter - quality!!!). Hell, even Sean bleedin' Tully was not his usually irritating self when he said THAT thing about getting a hosepipe - I know he said 'bucket and'.... very quickly, but it really sounded like, you know what!!!

Wee Chesney looked at home there in his Fred Dibnah togs at the helm of the steam engine with Roy, Stape also was actually bearable and not his usual punchable self.... in fact the whole episode had a sweetness about it that harked back to prime era/ vintage 70s Corrie at its best. Even the customary bitchfest between warring factions Websters and Peacocks didn't bring the whole thing down....

Like I said, a great episode indeed and one which I will be keeping hold of to remind me that, yes, once in a while, the producers do get summat right after all.

Now....excuse me whilst I just go back to fast rewind and replay the PRICELESS bit showing Becky 'n' Fiz ducking up and down whilst propelling a hilariously insouciant Hayley, standing bolt upright like some sentinel without nary a gust of wind displacing her features, staring straight ahead in hope and anticipation!

Brilliant! :) :)

Great work, producers - for once!!

I was watching some clips from early EastEnders and as far as the character of Pauline Fowler goes it really shone out how much her character changed over the years. In the early episode's she's good natured and salt of the earth. A nice natured decent person. Even when I was a wee guy and she was still married to Arthur I remember her having been nice but by the end of her run she was a nasty, nasty piece of work. She seems like an embittered old witch. I'm not sure if the character who first appeared in the show would have ended up the way she did no matter how hard life treated her. I don't know if Wendy Richard had an influence on how the character turned out as she wasn't happy when Pauline remarried and I think that was why she left the show. So I wonder how much Richard had to do with how the character became. In the early days she was so nice but in the end she never cracked a smile.

Did anybody see Dev in the last two episodes of Corrie - especially the second one where he was pretending to be distraught in hospital following his son's admission after falling unconscious....? God, I have never seen such chronically poor acting. It was embarrassing to watch. Him stuttering in such a blatantly FALSE way - as unconvincing as it is risible. Then he made out like he was genuinely aggrieved at his little kid's plight, but all them false tears and heartbreak was so hammily acted out I had to stop my own stomach from caving in I was cringeing so much.

It's interesting to see how almost identical he is to Lyndon Ogbourne in Emmerdale - the other sh1te actor that really irritates me - in terms of unmitigating crapness in that he (Dev) only seems to have one voice: his delivery is so one-dimensional it's beyond belief.

Nathan seems to be grinning and leering every time he opens his gob and speaks in that crap husky yuppy non-voice of his. By the same token, Dev also looks and sounds as if he is always on the verge of breaking into laughter regardless of what emotion he is supposed to be trying to convey whenever he speaks. His attempt at being sad in Friday night's episodes were truly the stuff of legend. He is without a doubt (along with Antony Cotton) possibly the worst, hammiest, so-called 'actor' that has ever darkened the cobbles of the street.

Somebody PLEASE shoot the both of them!!!

Okay - make that THREE (along with Nathan in Emmerdale).
