Flash Forward of the week: The action jumps ahead six weeks from the Season 4 cliff-hanger, with the intervening gap filled by a TV news report: "This was the scene six weeks ago when a serious explosion destroyed the Tuscany Valley mansion of Richard Channing ... Two victims were apparently thrown clear ... He has become a reclusive figure refusing to grant interviews or even to co-operate with law enforcement agencies seeking to solve the crime that nearly killed him."

Deja vu of the week: Richard refusing "to co-operate with law enforcement agencies seeking to solve the crime that nearly killed him" - exactly what he did a year earlier, following the cliff-hanging plane crash of Season 3.

Insult of the week, 1: Aaaaaannnnaaa Rosseeeennneeee calls Chao Li a pip squeak.

Foreshadowing of the week: Cassandra's designs to turn Falcon Crest into a resort look like the same kind of pastel ****-hole the Del Oro Spa will be in Season 7.

Amnesiac of the week: Maggie.

Disappointing jail cell of the week: Melissa's (less gothic than Julia's).

Cole should have died in the Earthquake

Ok, here'e a question. Instead of Cole's lack lustre departure mid-season 6, should he have died in the Earthquake? Does anyone know why William left? Did the producers want to keep the part open? Did he know/plan that he would go mid-season 6?

Underwhelmed by Jacqueline in Season 2

Having finished watching S2 for the first time recently, I really enjoyed it. Lance and Melissa's sparring, Richard putting the cat among the pigeons, and all the general scheming and family drama.

But I was expecting so much more from Lana Turner as Jacqueline! I thought there'd be some really camp, catty scenes between her and Angela. But it never really transpired, and she's only in a few episodes. I loved the cliffhanger at the party where Richard reveals that she's his mother, and she narrows her eyes at him in fury. But then there's no massive fallout, apart from Richard rejecting her. There's a certain frisson generally, thanks to the rumours of a real-life feud between Turner and Wyman. But perhaps I was expecting too much?

Basically, Season 2 will be an On-Demand release coming out NEXT WEEK already, I wonder if we will get that great looking cover in great quality and if this means that all further seasons will be released this way as well as that Knots might be heading for a similar fate...
This also means that the Scandinavian and German releases will easily become collector's items as I am sure that the discs for the MOD releases will not look as nice as the ones for Season 1.
Maybe they can also re-release Season 1 for the US market and correct the Episode 15 fiasco...

I just heard back from TVShowsonDVD.com and they said that all of the Warner MODs come complete in a professional case, with package art.

Just finished watching the Vintage Years.

I liked it alot. What was so surprising was how familiar it all was. Basically several scenes from season 1 in one fast paced episode.

It was nice to see how FC could have been hadn't Richard been taken away from Angie as a baby.

Too bad FC didn't explore one thing that was promised in the Vintage Years, that of the fight for Cole's soul.

It was interesting to hear that in the VY Tony was still with Julia, or Dorcas as she was stupidly called here.

Then of course you have the casting.

Wyman was her wonderful self, even nastier than the one we got used to.
Gulager worked very well as Chase.
Eggar was no Maggie but that can be my regard for Sullivan talking.

Thank God for Bill Conti though, awful them to the VY.

All in all it was a fascinating look at what FC could have been.

Watched Season 1 on DVD

I recently watched the first season on dvd and really enjoyed it. I felt it was a solid beginning to the show. They really seemed to know what they were doing with the show. All of the characters and storylines were believable and Jane Wyman certainly stole the show as ruthless Angela Channing. At first you could see her as a JR type knock-off, but Wyman made the character her own, and I'm glad to read that she really enjoyed playing the role.

Season 1 really kept the family and their interactions at the center of the storylines, and the season long Uncle Jason storyline kept things flowing. The acting was also quite good with standouts by Wyman, Susan Sullivan, and particularly Margaret Ladd.
It also helped that, like Dallas, there was a lot of on-location filming to add a sense of authenticity to the show.

I worry that we won't get another season for a long time, if ever. I'm glad to see Dallas finishing up on dvd (years ago I wasn't sure they'd get past the dream season).
Hopefully Falcon Crest sold enough to warrant more releases.

I'm curious to see what others thought about season 1. Please mention both good and bad things about it. I'm trying not to spoil myself too much about future seasons, so I'd like to keep the discussion in this thread focused just on season 1.
