So far I think Pam and Bobby are rather boring...though I love the feuding going on between their families.

I LOVE Sue Ellen, Lucy and JR so far. They find themselves in the crazier plots, which I love...for obvious reasons. XD

I think I saw someone mention this on the Dynasty board, but I seriously wish Krystle had been more like Sue Ellen: a big bitchy boozehound. I love over the top women like that. Which is why I love Sue Ellen.

As we all know, the 1986 revelation that the preceding season had been a dream was wildly controversial at the time. The returning producers insisted that "it was the only way to bring Bobby back," (which was and is debateable) and that "the ratings jumped up once Bobby came back," (an abject lie).

Some accepted it. Most didn't. But regardless of how you felt about it, "Pam's Dream" became a sitcom punchline for years and is still regarded as the jump-the-shark moment in all of TV history -- largely because of how globally gargantuan the show was up until then.

That said, given the fact that the dream explanation couldn't be undone, and the damage to the show and its image was significant, was there something DALLAS could have done to "tweak" this infamous narrative gaffe?

Admittedly, given how mediocre the final three seasons were, it hardly seems to matter. But (especially had those three years been a little spiffier than they were) would it have done any good to have done something like this?:

In the final moments of the last episode "Conundrum" in May 1991, Bobby rushes to JR's room upon hearing a shot, gushes, "Oh, my God...!" and the camera either freezes on Bobby's shocked face (as it did) or pans down to JR's bleeding skull on the carpet below............ and then the picture ripples and rolls and gradually becomes superimposed with that shot of Pam in bed, as JR's image fades away........... the picture stabilizes, Pam gets up, goes to the bathroom, opens the shower, sees only a pink tiled wall in front of her, looks down, sees Mark Graison's body on the floor, Pam gets a stunned close-up, and, with no music and only the sound of the shower and the emptying drain, the camera gradually moves into a super-close-up of the drain until the screen is black.

Executive Producers
LEONARD KATZMAN
LARRY HAGMAN

This way, the dream issue is acknowledged and revisisted. And while not all detractors of The Dream would be forgiving, this gives the fans a number of options they didn't previously have: Did JR really attempt suicide? Was the original Dream in 1985/86 really a dream after all? Did the Dream really start after Bobby stepped out of the shower in 1986? Was the entire series a dream until Bobby stepped out of the shower?

What was and what wasn't a dream? Was this a dream within a dream? Or even a dream within a dream within a dream?

It wouldn't seem likely to add any damage to the show, given how momentous the Dream controversy had been in 1986. But it might, in the final reel, put the original dream into a different context.

Been rewatching the DVD series from when Bobby & Pam are estranged to the Fire at Southfork (that spotted shirt made it's last appearance lol) to their "not supposed to happen" DIVORCE and beyond ..... to Bobby meeting Jenna Wade etc.

Pam .... was out of line on so many occasions, when she was estranged from Bobby she continued 'to see Mark Graison' for Dinner reservations, holidaying in the South of France and even let him be part of Christopher's life. Bobby had to accept her actions. When Afton phoned her in France to say Katherine was moving in on Bobby, she got on the first plane back to Dallas, seething with jealously and went straight out to Southfork to question Bobby, with no remorse of "where she had been and who with"! It was if, she had her rules and Bobby had to live without the company of women.

JR set up Bobby with Katherine's help so that Pam would see him enjoying himself with a women, which was not the case, hang on, Pam was dining out with her "beau Mark"...:S ... she storms off.

The mention of the fact that Jenna Wade was back in Bobby's life seethed her even more, and her reaction on her back porch said it all. Mark was a "mug" to even think they had a future together, when all she cared about was her ex beloved Bobby!

IMO Bobby had moved on, he realised that he had lost Pam to Mark (because of "THE LETTER") and that he showed not much emotion when he saw them together, only when he wished them well for their wedding which I thought he found awkward to do ....

Pam was very selfish, during her estrangement from Bobby....I never thought I would say that, as I loved the character ... but Pam "you were so out of line"...

Poor ol' Bob, I felt sorry for him, he did everything in his power to try and win her back, give up Ewing Oil, move out of Southfork, and move away from Dallas, and she repayed him the way she did .... DIVORCE!!!

I did feel his pain, despite the fact he wore "1 tacky blue spotted shirt".....

PS I thought Katherine was well matched to JR in the "underhand ways of the world" and Morgan Brittany played the character so well.

Any comments.

Hi, new Dallas fan here...my wife and i are at the point in the series where they have just re-introduced Steve Forrest as Wes Parmalee AFTER having him appear as Ben Stivers for the last 3 episodes of the dream season....i was wondering....since they seemed to have laid the groundwork for a "fake Jock" storyline while he was still Ben Stivers, why did they feel the need to change the character's name and backstory? couldn't he still have remained Ben Stivers posing as Jock? i understand that the actor Forrest was under contract to appear in several episodes, so they had to keep him in the show, but it just seemed unnecessary to change his character's name and backstory that way if they were going to continue the storyline they'd already started during the end of the dream season...any ideas on this? thanks everyone for looking at this rather long post.....
