View Full Version : Did Sue Ellen Know?

I have always wondered, did Sue Ellen know about J.R.'s sexual lifestyle before the Winds of Vengence?
During the 1st 3 episodes, we are given a strong indication of J.R.'s lack of interest in her and his hang ups where Sue Ellen was concerned.
Did Sue Ellen know about J.R.'s affairs, but choose to accept them as long as they were not exposed to the family and she was still Mrs. J.R. Ewing?
On the other hand, I remember Sue Ellen's initial response when Luther Frick told Sue Ellen about J.R.'s one night stand with his wife. Her response was to say, "Him?", as if she were suprised.
Did Sue Ellen know? Or did J.R. pull it off for the 1st 7 years of their marriage?

Hmmmm...I somehow doubt that Sue Ellen could be that dumb though she could have been in denial. Maybe that was the reason for her reaction.

I agree with Afton. Sue Ellen couldn't have been that dumb, that she couldn't see, or at least have an idea, of what was going on. She might not have had any concrete evidence that JR was cheating on her, but I'm sure she had her suspiciouns.
I'm curious about the settlement, if say she left him before she had Baby John. I mean would Sue Ellen be entitled to half of JR's settlement by law, back in 1978-1979?

Hmm... I remember quite clearly how Sue Ellen said quite a few times about "all those nights of you smellin' like other women's perfume". She knew he was a lying cheating man. Remember when she tried to seduce J.R. in that white nightgown and she chased him out of the house yelling at him why he didn't touch her anymore. He just left her yelling at him in the drive-way. Besides being a little drunk didn't help on her end either. She has stated several times how he chased all kinds of women. And don't forget that famous scene after the Luther Frick incident. If looks could kill, Sue Ellen's looks at J.R. could have killed him dead.
Yeppers for sure she knew about his womanizing. But, she was in denial. She also was in love with him and put up with it all of those years before John Ross. It's just that Dallas started out when Sue Ellen and J.R. having been married for seven years. I'm sure it started out all lovey dovey, but in time, J.R. was out chasing all kinds of women.

I think she knew but was in denial and wanted to be Mrs. JR Ewing but when Pam came home as Bobby's Wife everything changed for her. SHe wanted to be loved like Pam was and was a bit jealous of their relationship. I personally can't understand why JR treated Sue Ellen so bad for so many years.

Great Post!!! Iagree with your take on this thread. I believe Sue Ellen was aware of JR's cheating ways, but when Pam came into the house her relationship with Bobby only made Sue Ellen jealous.

She knew alright.Even on the episode with the whole Wanda thing she looked very uneasy when she asked JR why he didn't call her the night before.
I think put up with it but it got too much for her and she began drinking like an alcoholic to block the pain of him not loving her as much as Bobby loved Pam.

Sue Ellen was in deep denial about JR's affairs. http://www.planetsmilies.com/smilies/confused/1/confused24.gif

Sure Sue Ellen knew about JR's affairs prior to "Winds of Vengeance". In "The Red File, Part 2" she tells him, "I know about Julie, JR. She was just one in a long line of your bed partners that eventually led me to Cliff."
Her suprised "Him?" in "Winds Of Vengeance" was in response to Luther Frick describing JR as "a hot shot lover boy."

I think she knew about the affairs but was in denial. I think she saw what Pam and Bobby had and then she realized what she was missing.. She was married 7 years before she had an affair on JR...

Denial is the best way to put it, I suppose.... But, with the way Patricia raised her, who knows????

I agree about Pam and Bobby. Sue Ellen needed to see their relationship in order to realize her own marriage was much less than perfect. Great reality check for her.
