Which characters on Dallas do you think were most misunderstodd, and why?

Sue Ellen. I have heard so many people refer to her as a bitch and a drunk, when in actual fact the people who say that, have obviously no idea the kind of turmoil she went through inside. These type of comments sicken me.
Pam Ewing

Lucy.
I can understand when people criticize Pam, Ray, Sue Ellen, JR, etc.. Although I may not agree with the criticism, those characters have done some things that can easily be seen as very wrong.
I don't think Lucy deserves most of the criticism aimed at her. She was just a lost little girl.

I agree. Lucy had to grow up without her parents. Jock and Ellie had to raise her and after what Ellie went through with 3 boys she wasn't exactly ready to rear another child at her age. Lucy manipulated everyone in that house because she was allowed to. Just like Bobby told her at the disco. "We love you short cake but we never have the time or the guidence to give you".
When Pam arrived she saw right through Lucy and the guilt that the family carried because of what happened with her momma and daddy. Lucy grew up alot with the help and wonderful influence that Pam was to her :-)

The most misunderstood characters on the show were:
JR
Sue Ellen
Lucy
Pamela
John Ross
Katherine
Okay, JR and Sue Ellen are misunderstood because some love one and hate the other, and vice versa. JR is misunderstood to be all evil, when he is far from it. He surely has his moments, more bad than good, but he is not evil. Sue Ellen is misunderstood in that she is said to be such the remarkable woman. You have to look at the whole scale and everything she has done, how she went about turning her life around (obsessing herself with her ex-husband, enough so to make an entire movie) etc.
Everyone thinks Lucy is boring to watch, and a rich little brat. I always liked her, except when she came back later in the show, she was totally over-acted and it was like a 30 year old trying to act 16. It didnt work. But Lucy is a very fascinating person, if you dig down deep and see what makes her tick.
Pamela is misunderstood a lot more than you would think. More so in the end. If you look at the events of her life, despite how much she said she loved Christopher, her running away (or kidnapping by Katherine, depending on how you watch the show; refer to the MB interview on this site) was a long time coming. The poor dear was mentally damaged. She had a history of mental illness, abandonment, etc.
I hear people refer to John Ross as a little brat. How can you do anything but love this child? He is one of my favourite characters (despite JRR, which I am trying to forget the reunions even existed at this point). He was such a sweet-heart. The most beautiful young child, and then little boy. When he cried out of frustration, it liked to have broken my heart. He is far from a brat, if you look at all that happened to him. That alone would take an entire thread, lol.
And of course my beloved Katherine. Look at all that happened to her before she went a little whacko. Her daddy died, she all of a sudden got 2 siblings who her mother appeared to care for over her, and then her mother's death and that damn will. I think those events would turn a screw or two loose in any person. She didnt start out to be Katherine: Bitch Delux. She appeared to be a sweet girl, who wanted to make something of herself. I always saw the whole picture when it came to Katherine, and that is why I can consider her my favourite character.

I've always thought that Lucy was a misunderstood character, but I always thought that was what made her Lucy.
It allowed her to do pretty much anything, and be involved in any storyline. She was a versitille character.
And...
I thought that they should have involved her more into Ewing Oil. She had the shares from Gary at one point, and she should have used those to somehow be involved in Ewing Oil
Sue Ellen Ewing

I think the most misunderstood characters were SueEllen, Pam and Clayton.
SueEllen because she is critisized so much because she's an alcoholic, a terrible mother, and a whore. But she overcame her alcoholism, which takes admirable strength, became a very devoted mother to John Ross and she wasn't half the whore JR was sooo... what the heck!
Pam because she is critisized simply for being a Barnes. It's not EXACTLY her fault she was born a Barnes ya know?
And Clayton because well... I mean, I have to admit Clayton's not exactly my favorite person. He's no Jock. But he certainly loved Miss Ellie and he was a wonderful companion to her, something she really needed.

I think Pamela Shouldnt have been considered a barnes she was Hutch Mckinneys and Rebbecas Daughter. Sure she was raised by Digger but even there she was raised by Aunt maggie.
I think one person a lot of people misunderstand is Jock Ewing I mean if you look at him he is a mean SOB and he dont take no crap but he has a strong bond to family and tradition. The way it seems he Would put Ewing Oil on the line to save his family or Ellie Remember Takapa when he was ready to sell it. Jock Ewing was all Family I mean He was a greedy SOB but He always put family First.
