I was watching The episode where Kristen comes on to Bobby Last night and got to thinking about Why they changed Kristen.
Does anyone know why the change was made?
I think it was a change for the better, the old Kristen looked kinda like trailer-trash, while Mary Crosby was much smarter and classier, but what was the official reason
for the change? It's not like Collen Camp was that busy, and Valley Girl didn't come out until 83'
Who do you think was the better Kristen?
Also, I wonder if she was jelious when the Kristen character rose to fame by shooting J.R.?

Good topic! I enjoyed Mary Crosby (the most beautiful woman on the show, along with Miss Morgan Brittany) as Kristin (it's with an "i" not an "e"). I loved the way she played the character, though in all fairness to Miss Camp, we didn't get to see what she could do since she was only in one episode. From what I saw, Camp played Kristin as a baby sister, and Crosby played her as the baby sister, but with a very womanly quality to her.

Good questions about Miss Camp's feelings about the character. Maybe she did have other commitments, then again, maybe the Dallas big-shots wanted to take a different angle with the character by casting Crosby.

JockEwing, you read my mind when you called the first Kristin trailer-trashy. I thought Mary Crosby's Kristin was classier, even though both were tramps. There was something in Crosby's eyes which could go from evil to sexy to sweet. Those eyes knew the world.

Sometimes I wonder, though, if I like Crosby better because I saw her more. I wondered the same about Jenna Wade(I liked Morgan Fairchild better because I always thought of Jenna as a bitch, not the syrupy way Presley played her).

Then I got to thinking: which Digger? (probably the second one). Which Miss Ellie?(no question-BBG). Are there any others?

Mary Crosby all the way for me. She has a special place in my heart.

I think I liked Morgan Fairchild better as
Jenna. The original Digger was a more realistic drunk, didn't wear that stupid hat or have that mangy beard! Did anyone notice there were 2 Jeb Ames' as well? BBG all the way!
And I do agree, Mary Crosby was/is gorgeous.
Colleen Camp was strictly rack-only (sorry for the sexism)

Can anyone answer why these casting changes were made?

The casting change might have been a type of publicity casting, as Mary Crosby is Bing Crosby's daughter. I'm not positive on this, though. I for one liked her better than Colleen Camp. Speaking of Colleen Camp, the last time I remember seeing her was in the first Wayne's World movie. She played Mr. Vanderbuilt's wife, for those of you who may have seen it.

Actually,
I checked the Internet Movie Database and Colleen Camp is in a lot of movies and guest T.V. spots. she still is very active. Much more than Mary Crosby. Maybe not playing Kristin was a good move for her.

I would have to go with Mary Crosby too. I don't really think Colleen did a bad job playing her, but we only saw her do it once or twice. If I am not mistaken, I thought I saw Colleen in a movie with Mathew Broderick and Resse Witherspoon called,"The Election". She looked quite different from her Dallas days, or rather "day".

I think Mary Crosby was an asset to Dallas, and if she had been on the show in later years, when it wasn't doing so well, they wouldn't have gotten rid of her so quickly, but would have made the best out of her character. She would probably become a regular star on the show, which could have helped her careare. It was really nice to see her again in the final episode in 1991. Her appearance showed she had a special status in Dallas, beyond all the other guest stars who came after her (like Afton, Mandy, etc.).

I was also curious to know why the recast Kristin, too. The original one, Colleen Camp, was kind of boring and not very attractive. At least not as attractive as Mary Crosby. Although I was never a big fan of Kristin, Mary did an excellent job portraying her. She made her very exciting and interesting to watch. Too bad she left the show so soon because she could definately have come in handy in the later years without Sue Ellen and Pam. http://www.soapchat.net/infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif
