I'm loving the big 'new Salem' island twist on Days. I can't wait to see what perverse concept 'genious' writer Jim Reilly has up his sleeve to explain all this! I actually love supernatural story's on soaps and Days does it better than any other soap, but it seems people either really love or really hate this show with a passion. It has'nt won a major (non-technical) daytime Emmy in like 20 years, not even the great Eileen Davidson could win for Best Actress and she played five different characters!!! At the end of the day, it's entertaining which is how soaps should be, and as long as they continues to camp it up, with sicko Jan Spears and phsychic Celeste, I'll watch!!! It's the only daytime soap I watch, I used to watch the ABC shows till about 10 years ago, when I heard that Marlena was gonna be possessed by the devil, and I was in love, what other soap would do something so crazy, I've been hooked ever since!!!

Its good, but hardly the best by any means.

Y&R has been storylines, better acting and better sets. GL, OLTL and AMC are also better, but there's no accounting for taste.

I just hope Deidra doesn't get an Emmy next year, if anyone deserves one its Renee Jones, Alison Sweeney or Lauren Koslow.

Ali Sweeney is on a role! She is by far the best actress on DOOL. But, I disagree with you on Marlena, she hsould get an Emmy. Especially for her scenes in the hospital, telling everyone she killed the family one by one. Her performance was equal parts scary and roll-on-the-floor laughing.

I guess I could agree that Deidra deserves a nomination, but an actual Emmy?

I'll give you a list of actors she'll probably be nominated with next year:

Michelle Stafford
Erika Slezak
Kim Zimmer (if she gets a storyline)
Cady McClain
Alicia Minshew or Susan Lucci

It'll probably be something like that, and I don't think she's as good as any actor in that list. If Michelle Stafford or Erika Slezak are nominated then I don't think there is any chance of her winning.

Just like with Ilene Kristen, she deserved the Emmy this year, but they don't give out Emmy's for comedy and DOOL is comedy.

Well, the ratings don't show that. I've never been able to watch a full hour of Days. Of course, I've got the all-time shortest attention span.

Y&R is number 1 for a reason.

Although, I'm a bit disappointed now that it's Summer and having to sit through all the "teen" storylines. I don't care about "Sierra" "Daniel" or "Cassie".

Maybe DAYS won't focus on whiny teens and their frivolous problems, and may see it's ratings rise.

Actually pieces, Days ratings have rosed big time since the so called serial killer stroryline. It's now the #3 ranked soap, up from #7 this time last year. Days and Passions are also the only two soaps to experience viewer increases compared to last year. Your beloved Y&R is losing viewers left and right!!! As for Days atleast it does'nt just do the "typical" soap strory's we've seen a million times and tries to give up some supernatural and way out there camp that brings us fun in our mundane lives!!! By the way it seems to me that a lot of young high school and college kids watch Days, I think more so that the other soaps (except Passions, obviously). Also I've noticed a lot more men watch Days then they other soaps as well. I'm a 22 year old straight male Days fanatic and proud of it! By the way in an Entertainment Weekly feature story about Days resurgance, they said it was the #1 rated show in the 18-49 demo, which is all that the advertisers go by, so according to Madison Ave. Days is the #1 soap, and NBC can get away with charging more money for ads.

Guiding Light's ratings were also rising the whole time John Conboy was Executive Producer.

I think its great that GL, PASS and DAYS are doing so great right now. I think the three of them are really good. Even Passions which is usually brushed off. If I had another vcr I'd be taping it everyday.

Days is the soap I've watched the most over the years, but it can get silly with devil posessions and other impossible stories.

Watch Y & R some, seems like CBS is the elite of Soaps, I often think Days has turned into "Passions" with a history. Ratings have improved though with the "killing" of folks who have been on the show for decades. Can't wait to see how they all got to this alternate Salem after BEING BURIED !!!!

Days is really been getting good since the serial killer, but I think that it is time to end this. the story is good...but how long can you keep this going. I am so sick of Jan Spears I can throw up. She is so sick in the head. I hope the writters do something bad to that character for all the pain she has caused. Bring back Victor quickly...because Nicole is another one that makes me sick. I really do enjoy Days...but this story line has seen its time...good one..but seen its time.

I agree DynastyMan about Jennifer...she needs to stop all that screaming and push herself up. She is not one of my favorite characters...too whiney and no common sense. I too have to change the channel when they show Jan and Shawn. I am married but it makes me feel uncomfortable at times...and then sometimes I want to go in the cage and slap Shawn for listening to her. Oh well the writers have to try to keep our interest on them ...but I can't. Can not wait for Friday...that will be a forum in it self. Days is horrible right now, and the cliffhanger was horribly disappointing! Oh wow a John/Kate kiss and Roman and Marlena kiss. Who cares? The previews for the upcoming stuff looked a lot better, but they made it look like it was all gonna happen in the August 30th episode, when its obvious its going to be over weeks time aka DOOL's usual slowness. I dunno why they're gonna kill Chloe. I liked her. They didn't need to kill her, IMO

Days also had dropped far in the ratings, now at a 2.8 rating and 6th place, down from their 4.0 rating and 3rd place when the killings were happening.

I think this new story of all these people who were shown being killed, and now living on an island alive, will hurt the show in the public's eyes. Fans have turned off to this impossible story, even for Days, and they may have shot themselves in the foot for credibility.

They are REALLY stretching out stories, how long can Jennifer hang on a vine !?!?!? She can survive all this without any problems, but was in the hospital every other day with no tramatic events going on, hmmmmm.

Also, where did the original Belle go?? Shawn, Belle, Jan, and Philip are all played by people who didn't originate the part.

Kirsten Storms aka the original Belle left the show to do a horrible CBS show called The Clubhouse. It has promos on all the time and it looks just dreadful. Charity Rahmer was the first and worst recast in daytime history, and Martha something plays her now and is doing a good job, IMO.

I like the Shawn in a cage story. Doesn't hurt me that he's had his shirt off for ages. Of course, he's sort of getting fat but I kinda like that.

Kirsten's new show is a 1 hour drama. It really looks horrible. I could understand if she was leaving for a hit like North Shore or The OC which is perfect for her look and acting style, but she goes to a surefire flop on CBS? WTF? She's not even featured in the promos, except for a picture at the end. Her role is very supporting and it just amazes me that this is what she left DOOL for. Really stupid girl if you ask me. Hopefully when its cancelled she'll move on to something better.

Ready for new episodes of Days starting this Monday, Aug 30. Sounds like it should speed up a bit in the action/drama dept.

Did watch the Days-a-thon, a few Monday's ago, mainly to get the classic, older theme, both opening, and especially closing theme song on tape. What memories it brought back, hate that shows don't air closing themes like they used to, this Days' closing theme was from 1990, played a lot of it. http://www.soapchat.net/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

I'm one of those people who absolutely hates supernatural storylines on soaps, which is why I hate DOOL and Passions with, well... a passion! The acting stinks, as does the dialouge written by this so-called "genious" writer. The entire show seems very sophomoric to me. I'm not the world's biggest daytime soap fan to begin with, but those two soaps take camp to the extreme. I think the best daytime soap I've ever seen is Another World, which is ironic since it was replaced by Passions, lol!

And hey, why is Kirsten Storms being called stupid for leaving DOOL to take on a prime-time role? The Clubhouse hasn't even aired yet, so how can it be stated that it's horrible? The OC is just the Beverly Hills, 90210 of the the new millenium and I think it's a bit overrated. It doesn't matter if she landed on an established show or a new show. Sometimes taking on new projects helps you discover what you really like to do, and I've heard several actors say that they get bored playing the same part for many years. I agree with you, but not only that, but DOOL just doesn't make sense. I mean they just make up the most unheard of things like bringing ten people back from the dead with a ridiculous explanation that they used fake blood, etc. What a pack of BS. But you must admit that supernatural stuff does work when done correctly. Port Charles and Dark Shadows both did supernatural stuff and were successful. PC was esepecially good during its last few arcs, but DS to this day is more successful than most primetime soaps so that shwos that it can work when done right. Buffy and Angel are other good examples.

The OC overrated? I don't think so. It was one of the biggest teen hits of last year and it would do Kirsten a lot of good to get on a show like that. You're right it doesn't matter if she's on a new or old show, but it should matter if the show is good or not. Just because it's in primetime doesnt' make it superior to daytime in anyway. Clubhouse looks horrible, and her role in it is barely supporting. What a big step that is, she'll get noticed absolutely ZERO. She's not even featured in the promo. Even the mom is, but not her. She's basically a glorified guest star. As for Belle, she was technically the first adult actress to play her. Before that Belle was like 5. And 50 is exageratting even if you are kidding. Even primetime does recasts.

I always watch "Days Of Our Lives" on a Belguim Channel, i love this show but they stopt in Belguim. And now i have to whats it on a Dutch Channel, but they are four years feather. So i have to miss 4 years, and that's why i will stop watching "Days of Our Lives" after Marlena has been exposed as the "Salem Killer"

Chris, the only daytime soap I liked that was supernatural was Dark Shadows. I could not stand Port Charles, and I think the reason I liked Dark Shadows is because it didn't seem like a run-of-the-mill soap opera. Yes, the sets and lighting were primitive, but it had a wonderful gothic flavor, and they did well by casting actors with angular faces to really make them look like vampires. David Selby still had this look to me on Falcon Crest.

Port Charles, on the other hand, was more like soft-core porn with some vampires thrown in for good measure. I found it boring, with the typical pretty boy/girl cast that so many soaps rely on these days.

As for the OC, I admit I don't have much room to criticize it because I only watched one episode. However, it just seemed like another teen drama for a new decade. When I said it was the 90210 of the millenium, I meant that it was the teen flavor of the decade, much like what 90210 was to the 90s.

Also, I'm aware that the "50th recast" is an exaggeration, but it is something I believe is overdone in daytime. True, the Dallas and Dynasty characters you mentioned were played by two actors, but only two. I've searched IMDB and found roles on daytime soaps that have been played by 13 or more actors, literally. Isn't that overdoing it a bit? I mean, how can you tell who is who when the character's face is constantly changing?

I still stand by what I said about Kristen Storms. Maybe she is just a "glorified guest star," but most actors have taken parts that they later regretted. This may just be her chance to spread her wings and try something different. I still believe that if it fails she will be able to find a role on daytime, maybe even playing Belle again.

Saw the new show that the actress who left the roll of Belle is now on, not bad.

Was also thinking that she'll get public exposure on this show that she and anyone else on Days and daytime soaps will NEVER get. A whole different set of people watch prime time, and the right TV exec may see her and may be future job opportunites for her. Might have been a good move after all.

The island story is good recently, but still moving SLOW. Is Stefano (Joe Mascolo) going to appear or just be mentioned??? Tony is no Stefano and will be a let down to the entire story if the REAL Stefano doesn't appear.

Days has been uneven, as of late. The "island" plot has been ok, but there are so many unanswered questions (as well as questions taht were answered poorly!!!) that it is getting a bit over the top.

Of course, long-time DOOL fans are able to look over the wild stories and see the real jem that looms on the horizon: the return to Salem. Can you imagine how everyone will react to seeing the "dead" return? The whole place will be spinning on its ear!

I visit TWoP regularly, people hate Clubhouse there and basically agreed that show's "retarted" (not to offend anyone, but you can't call a show mentally challenged), and, most importantly, very few people post about that show, even compared to flops like Hawaii. It's from Aaron, after all, right, the "genius" behind 7th Heaven (which is used on Jump The Shark com as offence, LOL) and Beverly Hills? :eyeroll: Correct me if I am wrong. From what I heard it's preachy, sappy boring crap, or should I say "wholesome family oriented show". Critics seem to hate it too.

Anyway, I posted not to bitch, but to ask - so what exactly is the "brilliant' answer to DOOL's mistery? I heard something about Tony, dead Stefano, etc, or are they to explain it yet?

Some soaps were shown here plus I keep up by recaps (which is much better way to "watch" it, actually), but DOOL wasn't shown.

DOOL's explanations were terrible and didn't make ANY sense. Plus we were always told the guy behind it wasn't Tony aka the most obvious suspect but it was...

DOOL is just awful right now as for Clubhouse, it's a terrible show and it's ratings are so bad it's being moved to a death night...SATURDAY! It'll definitely flop there.

It's funny. Days used to be awesome, but now it's like Passions used to be, whereas Passions is now a great, traditional soap in the making.

THe writing, storylines on Days suck, even though they're not supernatural anymore. Plus, the acting is horrific (for the most part). It's like a campy comedy. That's the only way I can enjoy it, thinking of it that way. Suzanne Rogers were horrible in her return scenes with Mickey. Was this the same woman who deserved an Emmy last year?

Are we watching the same show? Now that the campy island adventure is over, DAYS has returned to what really matters: characters and relationships. Mickey/Maggie, Bo/Hope, even Shawn/Belle have had great scenes lately (ditto Sami/Lucas). I'm still enjoying the ride (going on 12 years now!).

No, what show are YOU watching? Days is nothing more than a campy comedy. Either the actors suck or the actors suck when it comes to reunion scenes. Where was the emotion? That was awful. These people were DEAD but everyone is actinglike they came from a 2 week vacation.

Kate was like "oh yeah my daughters alive, better break up bo and hope." It was ridiculous.

Days has turned into the old "Passions" with a long history, as the ratings show.

Luckily, several old favorite characters are still on board, which is what is saving them.

Also, no on air reunions with Alice Horton???? Is Francis Reid ill ??? I think they'd show Julie and Mickey going crazy to see her again on air.

In my opinion AMC is the best soap on right now with One Live behind it....I used to be a Days fan...and when the whole killing thing started, I stopped watching it, it just got really stupid and unrealistic....I used to watch Passions too, but the show is so far fetched now......

Haven't seen Days in many days due to the holidays, but watched this week and NOTHING MAJOR has happened. The stories are moving at a snails pace.

Philip being deployed, then hanging out for days doesn't happen, he'd be gone in less than 48 hours.

Did catch a few "Young and Restless" episodes over the holidays, sooooooo much superior to Days right now. Always thought Days or Passions wouldn't last 2 weeks on CBS or ABC, they'd be laughed off the air !!!!!!

Actually think Days is good so far in 2005. Seems like one week of shows is only a day or two in Salem though. Think John Black's drug story is a good one, very convincing.

Did read how Marlena and the rest of the prisoners in the DiMera castle may be held captive and only on occasionally through spring, early summer. The reason was to give other storylines more attention, guess they don't want their "Susan Lucci", Deidre Hall (Marlena), on screen much for some strange reason.

Brandon booking a "non stop" flight from London Heathrow to Salem USA. I know it's "soapland", but the idea of it and hearing them say "non-stop" flights between a major city like London and this little town called Salem cracks me up !!!! I guess Salem is supposed to be a decent sized town with lots of amenities, but not on the scale of a New York or London. Don't think the demand for direct flights between the two would be too large.

People say you can tune out for weeks, tune back in, and not miss a thing on soaps.

This is usually not true, but lately is the case for Days. They're moving their stories at a snails pace. One day lasts for 5+ episodes sometimes.

I'll think i am will gonne stop watching Days Of Our Lives, when the killing is over in Salem. Because it is not realistic anymore, and some good gast memebers are gonne also like Victor, Abe, and many more. I'm glad we not that for yet here in the Neterlands, but it is not gonne take long anymore when the Salem killer is gonne strike.

I'll think i'm gonne watche The Bold and the Beautiful again, because that show is gonne better and better over the years. Because the storylines are now faster than ten years ago, and the there are now some great gast members now on.

Briefly saw something about this in a magazine yesterday, but didn't read, like to be surprised.

Wow, a man !!!!! Her and the set up by Kate is a major storyline now, have to see how they'll pull this one off !!!!! Hope they wait unil Allison comes back to have Sami find out Kate was responsible, what fireworks !!!!

Victor, Caroline, Roman, Marlena, Cassie, and Collin Murphy are all alive and are being held captive in the Dimera Castle somewhere, but are RARELY seen. Even the people who made it back to Salem are hardly on (Maggie, Abe, Doug, etc.)

Still watch, but have a feeling after this contract with NBC is up, their "DAYS" will be up, they only get around a 2.5 rating for viewers, not good at all.

I think Days of Our Lives is horrible now. I miss Carrie and Mike and storylines about family. I am glad Jack and Jennifer are back together.

i agree days is getting very silly and boring and what about stefano there was no body so is he dead or what the storylines are borin a good soap is general hospital right now with sony and carly looking for micheal and i thoughtaj was to be dead there he is with micheal wait till they show up at port charles that will be a shock for all

Jack and Jennifer back together ?????? You must not still be watchin. :) I thought Jack got back too easily (once he got off the ship).

Stefano (supposably the corpse on the island) will re-appear if Days and Joe Mascolo decide to team up again. He is still on Bold and Beautiful, not sure how long his contract is.

Also notice a good 5 minutes of the show is flashbacks or dreams of someone, usually Belle visioning Philip or John of Marlena, of what could be or they are hoping for.

Days and B&B made a deal where Lauren Koslow would appear on B&B as Margo then Joe would go to Days as Stefano for a short while. Well, Days let Lauren go, then B&B were asses and backed out AFTER she made her appearances.

Joe said a while back in SOD that he was disappointed and would still like to do his part in the switch. :(

I've always heard that ChrisSumner, was certain Stefano/Joe would appear on the island. Guess not.

I think, if he ever leaves Bold, he'll make, at least for a short stint, as Stefano. Did read how he had no desire to go back to playing Stefano for a long term basis. That could always change I guess.

Days of Our Lives is the worst Soap Opera on Daytime TV. :mad: I admit I watch it everyday and fastforward thru a lot of it! :mad: The storylines are so stupid! :mad: I hope it will get better when Austin Peck and Billy Warlock come back on the show! I will be glad when Roman, Marlena, Cassie, Jack, Caroline and Victor are reunited with their families. It went downhill with the salem Stalker storyline. They expected fans to believe all of those characters were alive after they were brutally murdered. They really think the fans are stupid! The writers need to wake up!

I am agree with you, i am gonne stop watching Days of Our Lives. When the killer is been expossed, because here in Holland we are not so far yet.

And i´m done by the way with Day Time Soaps, it´s just not fun anymore to watch 5 days a week a show that´s nog good anymore. I miss the years, when Carrie, Kristen, Stefano, Austin, Mike, Vivian, and Ivan those where the Days.

I watch out of habit, and also fast forward through much of it, as much of it is silly and the stories go soooooooooo slow.

Shawn and the others going over to rescue Philip may be the DUMBEST storyline in their history. Am curious to see how it plays out.

I agree. Them going in so easily and automatically finding where Philip is, is an insult to our military. These geeks would have been killed or captured as soon as they hit the ground.

Y&R is clearly the best soap on the air right now (daytime at least). It's holding it's own above 4.0 rating. DOOL has been sinking pretty low lately. Sheesh a 2.4 couple weeks ago??

Yes, Y & R the dominate soap for several years now. Although, only a few years ago, they were around a 6.0 rating, all soaps have lost viewers.
