Is anyone here a fan of the gothic soap opera Dark Shadows, which ran on ABC from June 27, 1966 to April 2, 1971? The Sci Fi channel shows reruns of it on weekdays (at 8:00AM), and last year episodes of it began to be released on DVD. The movie versions of the show, House of Dark Shadows & Night of Dark Shadows, are available on VHS along with the original series. There was a revival of it in 1991, which was cut short by the Gulf War.

I first got into it in February of last year when I caught some of the reruns on Sci Fi, and since then I've been watching everyday and have been buying some of the videos, DVDs, and books that have been released over the years.

Currently, Sci Fi is near the end of the 1970PT storyline, in which all the characters are the same but they have different relationships with each other. It was bland at first, but now that it's coming to an end I've been liking it more. I can't wait for the next storyline to start.

I just got into Dark Shadows erm...last week, lol. I was loving it, but today was the last day they aired it!

I guess you could say I caught it at the wrong time, lol.

I plan on buying one of the dvd sets soon though. I REALLY want one.

Did the show ever take place in the present time?

If I get set one, what time does it take place?

I wish Sci-Fi had finished the run of DS -- there were only 18 more episodes left to air. I bought them on VHS from MPI, but its too bad they didn't give everyone a chance to see how the series concluded. The good news, though, is that Worldvision/Dan Curtis Productions are in talks with SOAPnet about acquiring the program, so it may air on there soon.

Yes, the show had storylines which took place in the present (#1 - #365, #461 - 700, #887 - #980, #1071 - #1109, #1113, & #1198). Other storylines took place in 1795, 1840, 1897, 1970 in parallel time, and 1841 in parallel time. It also had short flashbacks to 1949, 1692, and 1680 in parallel time, along with one 'flashforward' to 1995.

DVD Set 1 takes place in April/May 1967.

I'm going to buy the set one. I really enjoyed it. http://www.soapchat.net/infopop/emoticons/icon_frown.gif Only 18 more episodes, they could have done a marathon or something!

I think I saw the 1995 flashforward once..was the mansion all destroyed? I think I saw that for some reason.

It would be nice for Soapnet to pick it up, though the ultimate purchase would be Peyton Place! I've LOVE to see that. Thats the first primetime soap, and I'd lvoe to get to see it.

Rumor has it that Soapnet's in negotiations for it right now though! So the wait may not be that long. Also, the WB is developing a new version.

I really hope Soapnet doesn't pick it up. I'd love to see it and all, but you can buy it on dvd, and you can't see Peyton Place anywhere so its kinda not fair.

I hope they get Peyton Place.

I wanna see it soooo bad!

Yes, I am a very, very, very, very, VERY VERY HUGE fan of Dark Shadows.

I have 15 sets of the show on DVD now. :)

My favorite character was Barnabas Collins, he started out as a mean vampire, once he became human though he became more sympathetic and likable.

My 2nd favorite character was Quentin Collins, you might say he was the J.R. of the show since he chased after every woman he saw, however he too eventually became sympathetic once the werewolf curse fell upon him. Quentin was such a smartass...he was hilarious.
