Bea Arthur to join AMC

According to the SOC message board, Bea Arthur has been hired to play Erica Kane's mother on AMC who gave her up for adoption. What are your thoughts or opinions on this?

I hope that isn't true. Horrible stunt casting, plus Erica's relationship with her REAL mother Mona was beloved and I don't think anyone else could be accepted as her mother.

I'll take this as a rumor until I hear it on tvguide.com or something.

Hmmmmm. Remember Bea saying she'd never do another sitcom after "Golden Girls", this kind of being the same kind of schedule, I doubt it.

It might be a short term gig, she hasn't done much acting lately.

I just read about it on SOC, and its purely rumor.

Whats supposed to happen (and is more likely) is that Myrtle will be in a major accident and need blood and everyone will give and then they'll find out Erica is Myrtle's daughter which means Rae (Linda Dano) is her sister, and that makes Skye (GH's Robin Christopher), Kendall and Bianca cousins.

Now that storyline sounds much better than one with Bea Arthur! I hope it really happens.

Bea Arthur is a very talented lady, but I think she is much better suited to comedies. I can't see her being believable as Erika's biological mother at all, she just doesn't have the right look IMO.

This is a little upsetting. I can not picture her as Erica's mother. I hope this is not true. I would hate it.
