I was wondering if anyone watched it this past Saturday and what they thought? I taped it (the first episode) and was surprised how much I liked it. It was 80's fun (loved the beginning)!!! And I thought that Morgan Fairchild shined in every scene she was in (she's a hoot as Raccine). It was campy (the hair, the fashion) yet had some "regular" moments like when the mother and daughter saw her friends at the photo shoot.
Anyone else hooked?

Here's my post from the Knots forum! <3

Okay I'll start w/ the Knots tidbit! http://www.soapchat.net/infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif The house Laurie (Terry Farell) and Dinah (Jennifer Warren) lived in was the EXACT same set as the Mackenzie's home in the cul-de-sac. They didn't show the full living room area, or if there were stairs, but the kitchen set is EXACTLY the same. Doors in the same spots, table where it was on Knots, everything. It was odd. DO they do this often?
Okay now onto Paper Dolls!
I loved it! It was a very realistic potrayal of the modelling world from all the research I've done on it, etc, and it wasn't over the top like any of the other soaps. It might stay down to earth since it doesn't last long.
From a Paper Dolls site I found, it seems the show got very good reviews, but it premired against the Primetime Emmys which kinda killed it. http://www.soapchat.net/infopop/emoticons/icon_frown.gif
I'm not completely sure about everything like names, places, etc, but here are the characters I liked!
Taryn Blake (Nicolette Sheridan) - Okay you know I couldn't miss seeing my namesake! She's really good on this show too. Even better than when she arrived on Knots. We get to see that sympathetic side she never could pull of on Knots. Actually, its the ice queen stuff that doesn't work here. I also liked that she was a coke addict. Usually they have the person drink too much, pop pills or smoke pot, but they went more realistic and had this. Its very common in the modelling world, and usually taboo on tv, especially with a 16 year old girl. Another interesting thing was how her mother pushed her to do modelling. Her mom even ending up putting her in a near porn film where she'd have to pose nude.
Lauri and Dinah - They were good, the normal ones. I can see this getting annoying, but I like them so far. The mom is more interesting.
Blair (Mimi Rogers) - I LOVED her! She was the aging model, yet she was only like 25 from the looks of it! She had to decide whether or not to end her pregnancy in order to lose weight for a job, funny thing is, almost everyone wants her to get rid of it.
Racine (Morgan Fairchild) - She's a good actress so its not hard to like this character. She's not over the top like Alexis which is nice, and she plays the bitch perfect.
Overall it was a good show. Dack Rambo and Lloyd Bridges were good too, but they were mainly supporting to the women.
I like how the show has realistic storylines while not being movie of the week like the self contained early days of Knots, everything that happens here you could see really happening in everyday life.
Here's the only website (to my knowledge) on the show. Its pretty good too!

If anyone was considering watching and didn't, I highly recommend you change your mind! http://images.bravenet.com/brpics/smilie/wave1.gif

I missed it last week, going to try not to miss it this week. It'll give me a chance to see more of Dack Rambo. http://www.soapchat.net/infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

Thanks for your comments Chris - I'm pleased that someone else liked it as much as I did.
I also really liked the Mimi Rogers character as well. The two young models are a nice contrast: good girl vs. rebelling girl. And what a difference the mothers are!!! The one should be on showbiz moms....
Question: Does Lauren Hutton play Racine's mother? If so, that will be fun to watch.
I thought the acting was quite good much better than another primetime soap focused on Modeling (Models Inc.).
I was wondering if soapnet aired the complete 2 hour pilot last week? My tape cut off after the Lloyd Bridges character had dinner with that newsreporter...hope I didn't miss an hour!
SueEllenE - let me know what you think, Dack Rambo did a good job in the 1st episode.

If I may ask-- what did the opening credits of "Paper Dolls" look like?

I was a bit disappointed with the opening credits, lol. It had the most dated 80s music you can think of, and it started of with glamour shots of the actors and a model getting made up, then it went into cast shots. It wouldn't be so bad if the theme wasn't so dated.

Chris - thanks for letting me know regarding the pilot -(should of set the timer longer!!) and hope I did not miss too much...
anyway, last night's episode was well done and the stories are holding my interest. So far, Racine is my favorite but that bitchy mother, Julia, is interesting. I also like how the two young models are friends not rivals...well see if that lasts though--overall it is a good ensemble cast,
I love 80's music - so I love hearing songs like Borderline and Let the Music Play http://www.ultimatedallas.com/granny/Yeahh.gif
Does anyone else have a favorite character?
