Just wondering what everyone thought of Alice's death on "Days." It was extremely sad, however it was possibly the best DOOL episode I've seen in the 11 years I've been watching!

Sami's outburst! Belle's secret! Hope's goodbye to Alice! Jan planning to hang herself! Suspicion placed on Nicole! and last but not least, Marlena falling off of the balcony!

All that in one episode!!! Who says soaps are slow!

The serial killer storyline, as aweful as it is to loose all of those great characters, has been edge-of-your-seat entertainment for the last few months. Kudos to James E. Reily for making DOOL must-see-and-can't-miss-TV!!!

Ok, way back when NBC cancelled the frankly superb Sunset Beach, Channel Five - the network who screened SB in the UK, where it gained a huge cult following - picked up Days of Our Lives to replace it. They screened an Introduction to Days every day for weeks to try to snag the SB audience, but it never caught on, and DOOL was dropped like a lead balloon after a couple of months.

But from what I remember - a lot of sillyness about some princess pretending to be some dull woman with brown hair who was actually kidnapped and held hostage in a castle in France (no wonder the Brit audience didn't take to DOOL, where's it's imagination!) - the Marlene character was, frankly, very nice. Just very nice. I remember reading somewhere that she was once possessed by the Devil (again, just too pedestrian), but I can't imagine this simply very nice person being a serial killer?

Have they explained the story at all yet? Is there any [sort-of] justification for the killings... like they did with the Killer Corrie story this time last year in the UK (the sensational success of which, if you ask me, the DOOL producers have shamelessly been, ahem, 'influenced' by).

Anyway, it all sounds like jolly good fun.

Nope. Not yet. But the twist is that it is something that has never been done on daytime TV before....

Also, I agree 100% with you on "Sunset Beach." It was a FANTASTIC SHOW! I only watched the last 10 months of the show, but it was pure soap magic - one of the best series ever!

Days however, has been and always will be my favorite daytime serial!

Days is an enjoyable daytime show, but in terms of quality its pretty crap.

A lot of the actors are no good, and this new cost cutting stunt to give Belle and Shawn more airtime is stupid.

First of all to kill the last original cast member, Alice Horton by shoving a doughnut down her thoat is insulting. Frances didn't want to leave the show and seemed very hurt, as did Deidre who said she should have been the last one standing.

As for Marlena being the killer, rumor has it it will be Hattie, Marlena's lookalike who was brainwashed to think she was Marlena, and Marlena was brainwashed to think she was Hattie.

I got this from SON from someone who played a doctor in the scenes they revealed it or something.

Sounds like a major cop out JERk said it wouldn't be Hattie so if it is then I'll be let down.

Colby, its a shame yall don't get our good daytime shows like Young and the Restless, Guiding Light, One Life to Live, General Hospital and All My Children...actually the last three will be airing in the UK when ABC launches there.

I disagree on one respect: I don't think Shawn and Belle have gotten more air time. Pretty much all of the characters killed off were hardly on to begin with (which does not excuse their untimely demise). I like the fact that Belle lied to Shawn and this new riff between the two. It's a whole lot worse then when Shawn lied about Jan (since Belle might have been able to save Alice had she told the truth!!!).

Also, A LOT of screen time has been given to the "grown ups" since the storyline began. Marlena and John are actually in a storyline!!! Mickey has been given a storyline, as has Julie! That's wonderful in my book. Both characters deserve it.

Well Stephanie Sloan from SOD said we'll be seeing more of Shelle in the future so expect it soon.

Both actors are actully leaving the show (possibly forever, but right now just for a few weeks/month), so that's interesting....

When the "teen scene" came out in full force, I really hated them. I mean really. Now things are different. They have included the teens into the "bigger picture" and not just in "teen-only" storylines.

I doubt we will ever see that much of them any time soon (I don't think fan reaction was very high to all-teen DAYS, even with the younger audience). But, like I said, I'm happy to see storylines with the older cast (Julie fighting with Bonnie; Mickey and Bonnie; Shawn interacting with Rex and so on...) as well as cast members that have been around without much to do (Jen in a storyline! Marlena, John, Bo, Hope, Lexie, and...gasp! Celeste in main storylines!!! How much better could that be?).

Jason was going to leave to do a movie but that was scapped so he's staying and Kirsten Storms just signed on till December so they'll be around.

Once this storyline is over I'm sure good characters like Celeste, Lexie and Julie will end up into the background and Kate and John will probably take up more airtime.

Trust, me the KILLER CORRIE storyline ripped from US soaps, not the other way around. There was an identical story on Y&R some years ago with a character called David Kimball who married Nina and started killing off characters... as opposed to a canal he ended up in a trash compactor. So, Corrie has been ripping off US soaps, but the Street is generally shit anyway and mindlessly boring.

IMO the Music Box Killer story of OLTL was better written. Just my opinion.

One thing the Days Serial killer storyline did was increase it's ratings, from #6 up to the #3 rated soap, just barely behind #2 Bold and Beautiful.

Did think the whole Hattie hospital scene on Monday 4-12's episode cheapened and made a joke of the whole dramatic 6 month story. She acted horribly and someone like this could never pull off what she did. But as she said at the end of the episode, she never killed anyone, it WAS Marlena, hmmmmmmmm.

Also Julie's acting when getting stuck on the bull and the 3 minute Bonnie dance skit was pathetic and very sad.

Looking forward to Thursday, the day of Doug and Alice's funeral, hmmmmmm, I guess Doug can keep for days without smelling http://www.soapchat.net/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

I thought it was very true to Hattie's character...but what I didn't understand was how John found her and Bart. If anything, her apperence solidified the fact that Marlena did kill this people, and made it all the more terrifying.

The Bonnie/Julie fued is hot! Both characters are fantastic and I think this fued can really go places. This show, especially now, needs comic relief, and Bonnie provides it perfectly. The dance number was a little much, but I did enjoy the bull ride.

In fact, the addition of the rest of the Lockhart clan was a good choice. As much as I'd rather see some of the other characters that got the ax, they're gone and there is nothing we can do about it. I think it's good to see a "lower class" family in Salem - it adds another dimention...

I think the Bonnie-Julie story is very good, just those 2 scenes I thought were a bit corny, even for Days.

Never saw Days before with Hattie on it, I thought it did end good with her aliby, just glad this wasn't the explanation.

Not sure how this is all going to come out, have a feeling Stefano will be appearing briefly though.

Even though with this ratings grabbing stunt I know he won't use Lexie and Celeste once the storyline is done even though the cast will be smaller.

Both of them need to be frontburner.

Does anyone know why they decided to do a storyline like this? They're not going off the air, are they?

BretEwing

It was to cut back on the shows production costs. The soap will likely still be on the air for the next four or five years (until the shows contract with the network expires again, and is -hopefully- renewed.)

Thanks, Bret http://www.soapchat.net/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif I just don't understand why they'd want to kill off all these major characters that everyone loved. I wonder if they'll be bringing them back in some bizzare plot twist?

I have a new theory that somehow the mask made her do it. I think it was a pretty big clue that she came back from Colorado and just found the mask in her suitcase....

Thought the same thing Bret, the way she picked up the mask out of the suitcase was strange.

Now it seems as though Marlena did it because she loved Roman?!? Hmmmm...I think there is more (a lot more!) to it!

Always laugh when Mickey or Julie refer to the Horton family, WHAT FAMILY ???? They're all dead !!! lol

Also thought it strange that Alice's children didn't come to her funeral, Bill and Marie, both of whom were at Tom Horton's funeral. They were not even mentioned, I guess $$$ is very tight on Days.

Alice is back. this is actually the first time that I saw the 40 year veteran of the show. Everyone was in emotional awe when she came back during a meeting. This whole death storyline with the characters had been thought of back in September. The intent was to bring them all back but they did not tell the actors this.

Stick with it people! Daytime is about the ride! As long as DOOL and other soaps keep the ride interesting, I'll wait in line. DOOL is still pumping out great stories - and I know there will be an explaination of this whole island thing eventually - we just have to be patient and enjoy the ride!

I actually don't think its jumped the shark. It was about to, but its back on track with this new twist.

I think anything with Alice is just so cute and I love seeing Frances back, however I'm sick of hearing people say Deidra Hall should win an Emmy for this. Come on, now that is majorly pushing it. If she wins for this, then The Emmy's will be a joke. I do hope the show gets a nod though.

I can't wait to see Maggie, Doug, Tony and Cassie on the island.

Kirsten Storms is leaving which is very sad to me as I love Belle, Robyn Richards who's been mistreated at GH for years is testing for the role. I hope she gets it so she can tell GH to fuck off.

I'm really liking Tek and Lexie, they seem cute together, and the little Celeste ditbits are always good. Tanya Boyd should bet he star of this show! I want a Celeste/John/Kate triangle.

Anyone else loving Crystal??? OMG! Could she be any better?! Her scenes with Nicole, John and Brady are too much for words! I hope she sticks around.

We need to see The Lockharts more, I love me some Bonnie and Mimi!
