In reverse order....
(3) Dallas - Season Eight Finale! Shame about the outcome, however those final moments were breathtaking to watch.
(2) Knots Landing - Season Nine Finale! One big wonderful storyline pitting good and against evil. The Jill/Val scene was probably the finest (and longest) in the history of primetime soap. I loved the way they dedicated the first half purely to Jill & Val and the second to some other story before returning to Val for that final scene accompanied by the 'Mockingbird' soundtrack. Pure class http://www.soapchat.net/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif
(1) Knots Landing - Season Six Finale! A breathtaking climax to the biggest and best storyline on my all time favourite TV show. It summed up what Knots did best. Tell a good tale with lots of emotion and tension. No great big cliffhanging shooting/Wedding Masacre/UFO/Dream Sequence style ending here however still every bit as exciting.
"I never think of you and Gary as having failed at marriage. It seems it's the divorces that haven't worked"...

From the Cliffhangers above --
My favs were Buffy SEason 5 -- Buffy sacrifices herself to save the world -- Since Buffy was leaving WB -- I thought it might be over when she died and was a bit shocked. Also, I couldn't figure out how they would bring her back.
Also Melrose place 3 when Kimberly bombs the building was great
Both the Knots Landing finales mentioned were great too especially season 5 when Karen got shot & St. Clair drove off with Abby. I loved how everyone was involved.

melrose place's third cliffhanger is just the best. It was way over the top, but Kimberley's evil face freezing up as she prepares to blow up the complex is one of the most compelling scenes in Primetime IMO.
Jennifer: "It was five months, DAILY for five months, in motels, backs of cars, even in the alley behind the restaurant. If there was a word for the opposite of celibate, that would be us.
Amanda: "There is it’s tramp."
Melrose Place 1997 two hours season finale (Who's Afraid of Amanda Woodward?)
Kimberley before blowing up the complex: It's not what it looks like....IT'S WORSE
Melrose Place 1995 two hours season finale (The Big Bang Theory)
Sydney: Temptation is like Dandruff, you don't always know it's there but it's there.

One of my favs was on StarTrek:TNG when we see that the Borg has assimilated Capt Picard. Having to wait the whole summer to see what happened was excruciating!
If you want really good cliffhangers, check out "24". Season Two had nail-biting cliff hangers almost every single week!
- CTU blowing up and George Mason finding out he's dying
- The cops pulling Kim over and finding Carla's dead body in the trunk
- Kate being kidnapped and Jack's plane crash
- Nina getting permission to kill Jack from the President!
- Marie Warner is revealed as a terrorist and kills her fiancee
- The nuclear bomb detonating
- Jack's "death" while being tortured by the terrorists
- President Palmer being removed from office and Sherry Palmer returns!
- Kim kills psycho-Gary and Sherry is stabbed
- Jack and Sherry's car crash
- The final episode of the season, when President Palmer is poisoned!
That was the best season of television EVER! http://www.soapchat.net/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

2. Deep Space Nine - Season 4... the last scene when Odo tells that Gowron is an changeling http://perso.wanadoo.fr/schatzkiste/animierte-gifs/smilies/bilder/089.gif
3. Without a trace - I guess it was the ending of season 2, it was great
4. TNG - Season 3... Picard is a borg there
5. Crossing Jordan - Season 2... oh I hate it that I must waiting many months now before I get an answer if Max will kill Garrett or himself

Jamie, the Angel season 3 finale hasn't been shown yet on German TV. The last episode that we saw (when Justine slit Wesley's throat) isn't the last episode of that season. There are still SIX episodes to go. That stupid channel just interrupted the run in the "middle" of the season, arrgghh.
If they would at least bother to air the remaining episodes but I kinda have the feeling that Angel will never return to German TV. Not that I would care really, I have seasons 3 and 4 on DVD! http://www.soapchat.net/infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

Jamie, I agree! http://www.soapchat.net/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif
The REAL season finale of that season is also very cool though! I wish I could show them to you, you must move to my city!

The Moldavia Massacre
In terms of spectacle, I dont think any other cliffhanger has the sense of sheer cinematic bravado as the conclusion to the fifth season of Dynasty. Two things, however, stopped this being a truly effective moment in SuperSoap history: the before & after. Ok, so the build up to the wedding was effective and natural enough, but the build up to the terrorist attack? And the lame arsed conclusion at the start of Season Six has been criticised wnough elsewhere.
A shame in both senses, because in terms of scope and scale and possibility, Moldavia was truly epic.

I think the body in the pool, season3 finale was fantastic. Not just the actual cliffhanger but that entire episode.
My favorite was on Dynasty when Claudia threw Fallon's baby over the skycraper, but later we found out it wasn't a baby, it was really just a china doll./
