Were we lied to about how bad soaps were at the end of the 80s?

I dug this out of the closet from a stack of old magazines. It's from the week of February 1-7, 1988 and it lists the A.C. Nielsen figures for each of the primetime series that week. From a quick look, although none of the nighttime serials were top 10 placers, all but Knots were competitive placers in their timeslots. FC lost winning its timeslot by one tenth of a ratings point.
