Were we lied to about how bad soaps were at the end of the 80s?

I dug this out of the closet from a stack of old magazines. It's from the week of February 1-7, 1988 and it lists the A.C. Nielsen figures for each of the primetime series that week. From a quick look, although none of the nighttime serials were top 10 placers, all but Knots were competitive placers in their timeslots. FC lost winning its timeslot by one tenth of a ratings point. I scanned the page so hopefully noone reports me to the US Congress for violating copyright laws http://www.soapchat.net/infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif but if you want to check out the ratings for that week, click here (http://www.francejoli.net/pho/nielsen_02071988.jpg)

At a glance, these are the ratings/shares for each series' episode and the numbers in bold are where the show placed overall that week, unless I missed my calculations:

03-FEB 10pm Dynasty "The Warning" #34 14.9/24

04-FEB 10pm Knots Landing "In Too Deep" #23 16.5/27

05-FEB 9pm Dallas "Brotherly Love" #15 18.6/30

05-FEB 10pm Falcon Crest #36 "A Madness Most Discreet" 14.7/25

Here's another scan (http://www.francejoli.net/pho/nielsen_02141988.jpg)

At a glance:

10-FEB 10pm Dynasty "Adam's Son" #24 15.0/26
11-FEB 10pm Knots Landing "The Blushing Bride" #20 17.2/27
12-FEB 9pm Dallas "The Best Laid Plans" #18 17.5/29
12-FEB 10pm Falcon Crest "Stormy Weather" #34 14.2/25

Again, all but Knots won in its time slot competition.
