Hi, does anybody know why the show got cancelled after only two seasons? Jamie and I have been watching re-runs in Germany and are wondering why the series got cancelled. We think it's a great show and it would have deserved to live on!

But Dallas started way earlier than Flamingo Road. I think you might have heard this about Dynasty cause Dynasty started soon after FR.

"Flamingo Road" was NBC's first attempt to jump into the primetime soap opera craze that was gaining momentum in the early 1980s, thanks in large part to "Dallas" and their "Who Shot J.R.?" storyline. In fact, "Flamingo Road" was made from the same creators of "Dallas," as NBC promos mentioned, and the shows were somewhat similar in showcasing rich, villainous schemers seeking power, money and control. Whereas "Dallas" was set in Texas, "Flamingo Road" was also set in the South in the fictional- yet well-to-do- community of Truro County, Florida. The town was run by the corrupt and powerful sheriff, Titus Semple, who made it his point to know everyone's business. The original storyline centered around a triangle between ambitious politician Fielding Carlyle, his beautiful and scheming political wife Constance and his true love, singer Lane Ballou. Other characters included the wealthy paper mill owner, Claude Weldon, his wife Eudora and son Skipper; construction magnate Sam Curtis; newspaper publisher Elmo Tyson and the shady saloon-keeper Lute-Mae Sanders. In the show's second season, the series introduced a new villain- Michael Tyronne (played by David Selby) who sought revenge against the whole town for past crimes committed against his father.
"Flamingo Road" originally aired as a TV-movie in May 1980 and debuted as a regular series in January 1981 (a week before "Dynasty" premiered). However, "Flamingo Road" never enjoyed the ratings success of "Dallas" or "Dynasty" and was cancelled after only two seasons. The series was based on the novel by Robert Wilder, which was also made into a 1949 motion picture starring Joan Crawford.

Thanks Chris. I really wonder if anybody knows some juicy details like if they were already planning season 3 (before the cancellation) and how the storylines would have continued, etc.
But it seems the show was no big deal in the US. Here in Germany it's rather well known. Strange how that goes sometimes!

Hi Christine,
perhaps we should write a role play to Flamingo Road. We would simply start from there when the serie ended. http://www.mysmilie.de/smilies/schilder/3/img/003.gif
I think sadly that Flamingo Road had only two season. I love this serie. She was great and I think Flamingo Road would have got the third season. I believe it would have been interesting.
Dallas vs. Denver - Möge der Bessere gewinnen.
The most successful serie of the world. Giants, speculators, intriguers, Whiskey aunts...
