Melrose Place was a course a spinoff of 90210. The character of Jake was the character that spun them off into the Summer of 92.
Melrose Place during the first few shows had decent ratings. Fox wanted to do the same thing for Melrose Place that it did for 90210 (which work) and Models Inc (failed).
However during the fall of 92 ratings started to slide. Slowly storylines continued for more than one show. Sandy was kicked off and Jo came to Melrose Place.
By early 93, Aaron Spelling added Heather Locklear to Melrose Place. Since then Heather is credited for changing and saving Merlose Place. ( A Tend that happen in every primetime soap in 1990's, add a vixen to show if raitings are down).
Amanda-Billy-Alison triangle was the first real Melrose Place storyline. And people started to watch it again.
By fall of 93, Melrose Place had added Heather Locklear to the opening credits as special guest star.
Melrose Place become something of cult hit during the fall. By Spring of 94, Melrose Place was the hottest new thing to watch. Melrose Place was the on covers of TV Guide AS THE NEW DYNASTY and Rolling Stone.
Summer 94, had the failed spinoff Models Inc (it wasnt as good as Melrose Place but it did have some fun moments)
Fall of 94, Melrose Place moved to Mondays. Heather Locklear face was on posters saying that MONDASY ARE A BITCH.
90210 and Melrose Place was Fox's top shows. And primetime soaps had offically come back.
Other tend that happen was former 80's primetime soaps star was appearing on these shows.
Merlose Place's cliffhanger was change due to the Oklamhoma bombing but was shown in the first show of 95-96 season.
95-96 season proved to be the season when Melrose Place was becoming uncool for many reasons.
Darren Star (created) left the show at the end of 94-95 season , but made a outline until the last episode of December 95. The rest of Jan 96-May 96, ratings were down and critics were over it. Also everyone was becoming evil or dying and there was no body to root for anymore.
Other reason was 95-96 was a season where a primetime soap was coming on every other night. Central Park West on CBS, Savannah WB, Monroes ABC, and Malibu Shores NBC.
Melrose Place was unique and now it wasnt anymore.
96-97 Season was a major change for the show. Calling it to getting back to basics.
Most of the orinigal cast had left by the end of the season.
97-98 Season, was a major clue that show was coming to the end, the show stop airing IN March of 98, and the rest of the shows were aired during summer of 98.
98-99 Made attempt to redemm itself but it was over, it proved to the last season, with only one character being there from the beginning and that was Michael. (Jane had came back for the last season but was gone for a season).
