Why do Richard & Maggie fans hate Chase so much?

Most of the Richard & Maggie fans I know hate Chase. Why is there so much hate for the guy, who counterbalanced Angela? Chase did love Maggie but I do agree he had a funny way of showing it, especially in 86 – 87.

We hate Chase because he was sanctimoneous, and arrogant and tried to control Maggie. But most of all if he loved her he never would have left her when she was pregnant. I have nothing but contempt for him. Richard is of course no saint by any means but when Maggie needed someone he was there. How moral and good was Chase to leave her and take up with that twit Gabrielle Short. He treated Maggie horribly and even when he found out Kevin was his son he showed no real love or concern for him and only got him out of the bay out of guilt. I for one was not the least bit sorry to see him go.

I din't like chase because he was arrogant, he thought he was always right. I actually wish they hadn't killed him off though because the show was only a shell of it's former self without him.
