As this forum has been a little on the quiet side recently, I thought I would post some posts.

I would vote for Kevin Dobson as he is good at being annoying and at being caring and many other feelings and characteristics.

I would also vote for Michele Lee, as she is in every episode for one, and she is also good at the emotion thing.

I always liked Kevin Dobson, he seemed to make Mack a real character and however much of a pain he could be, you could believe in him. He is a natural actor. Michelle Lee I liked too as Karen but she could definitely be a pain, talk about a nosy neighbour. The last few episodes with Karen & Mack being so nosy about Frank & Patricia were quite funny but would we really want neighbours to be SO interested in our business.?
I think my favourite actress would have to be Constance McCashin as Laura, unfortunately no longer in the show. She was brilliant but
underused I think.
Interested in what everyone else thinks

Unfortunately it is usually the over-the-top ones who get the most praise (or at least attention), so when you get a natural, understated acting performance, it gets lost in the shuffle. KD is a prime example. Oh, sure he could get melodramatic (Wolfbridge brought that out in everyone) but his best performances came from the understated and natural scenes between him and Lee (the infamous turning-down-the-bed scenes), Van Ark, Sheehan (Ben and Mack were such pals!) and Sheridan (he could make even her early performances look good). Julie Harris had her.....eccentric moments as Lilimae, but she always had her character down pat. I never once looked at a scene and thought "Gee, she was just phoning that in..." When called upon, Harris could deliver the goods, but she was just as engaging doing home perms with Val or being the loving 'gooma'. Constance McCashin gave her character a unique quality---wit and humor despite the turmoil around her---and often was overlooked despite an ability to make a throwaway scene seem important. You hung on just to see how she would react to Peter's smarminess or Abby's scheming, and she could match Bill Devane crack for crack. Comic timing is incredibly hard, especially on a drama series! Finally, I think we often overlook the contributions of Kathleen Noone's Claudia Whittaker, but since she is yet to appear I won't sing her praises until later. ;-)

Laura about Richard: "He hates decorating trees. He thinks the tree's out to get him."
Scooter: "It's a unique paranoia."
Laura: "No, I've seen him decorate many, many trees, and they *are* out to get him."

I had forgotten about William Devane, I would say that he comes joint first with Kevin Dobson, not only for Knots Landing but he has also made characters on different shows believable. Greg is supposed to be a tough character but the was WD played out Laura's death storyline, if you had never seen KL before, you might have thought he was not tough at all. I though the scene where Greg is watching the message on the tape Laura made when she knew she was dying was very touching. Before then I was unsure if Greg was capable of crying. William Devane was capable of doing that with the character so he ranks 1st with KD.

I would say Kevin Dobson,Michelle Lee and Donna Mills are the best actors and actresses on Knot's Landing.

I would say that William Devane is the best actor after seeing him in Knots Landing and numerous movies. I think Kevin Dobson and Ted Shackleford are second best. I think Michele Lee is the best actress followed by Julie Harris and Constance McCashin.

The core group were the best! They all had thier moments..Val finally finding her babies was very fine acting, by Val and Karen, they both brought so much feeling! The death of Laura, her video will...the best two episodes of all(in my opinion)! Though I was sorry to see Laura die! Paige, to sexy to be bad! Abby a ruthless person, but we all knew she had a soft side even though others didn't know! Alec Baldwin(Joshua) great acting! I know WE ALL HATED HIM BY THE TIME IS WAS DONE! Ann Mathison, great acting in my opinion, quirky storylines fit her in real well in KL! And then there was Lilimae! Great actress!
So in my opinion they were a lot of great actors, and actresses, the story lines made them, as well as they made the story lines. Take for instance, two of the best, Mack and Karen and that final year or two with Jake.....they did what they could with the story line, I just couldn't find it believalbe!
Thanks for all the KL's fans.....cooki!

MAck to me was always just shouting, that is how he seemed to emote - the same with KAren- Gary would also mistake shouting for anger- I thought William Devane brought subtle actions to his acting and to me, that made him a better actor. Joan Van Ark was also really good to me- she brought a lot of dimensions to her character- she would do different things to express herself- to me, she was always very good.

Donna Mills in the beginning was a little raw but she refined her character and was brilliant- Donna had gestures she made, little ones, that made you know what she was thinking and I thought she was fantastic. Olivia also was great, that is why she moved up to A plots, her acting was so good, and Olivia used her whole body to deliver what she was saying and thinkinig, she just didn't say her lines. I really thought she was great. There were so many great actors on the show.
