View Full Version : Is Soapnet taking Knots Landing off their schedule?
I was watching Soapnet and saw an advertisment saying that on Sept. 10 they will be showing Ryans Hope seven days a week for 9 hours a day. WHY? I'm not familiar with that show. Is worth taking off the older shows like Knots Landing and Sisters so they can show 9 hours of Ryans Hope?

That's the trouble with a network owned by ABC/Disney, who also owns the "Ryan's Hope" library of episodes. They can get a lot more $$$ re-using their own property than paying for the rerun rights to KL and the other non-ABC stuff. It's why they started up SoapNet in the first place, as a way of re-using the essentially first-run eps of their soaps one would normally never see again. I don't get SoapNet, but I know how these newtorks think in general. It's all about money, and certainly not about helping out viewers or entertaining us.
Trying not to sound too cynical......
Ryan's Hope is a really good show, probably the most award-winning soap ever, and it is worth a look. I saw the final years of it, and it tried to remain a character-driven show rather than stunt-driven like so many soaps of the 1980's. It died not because of poor quality, but because it got lost in all the weirdo plots that took over the soaps in the late 1980's that sacrificed character development in favor of sci-fi, fantasy, and other non-traditional soap stories. In that way, it is a lot like Knots Landing in its commitment to the basic soap format. Still, nine hours??? I'm not sure I could even tolerate nine hours of Knots, back-to-back.
And for the die-hard fans of RH who tape it, how on Earth will they have time to sit and watch nine hours of it?

I'm surprised they would axe KL. I'll be fighting mad if they did. Did this SoapNet channel hire TNN employees? lol
could this pre-emption of KL be just for a week so like a Ryan's HOpe marathon can be shown?
Is there any info on their website?
I like RH but 9 hrs a day is ridiculous!
I saw a different ad for Ryan's Hope and this one makes it sound like that they will be showing Ryan's Hope for a week so that people can catch up with the current storyline. Maybe if we all write they will do the same for Knots Landing.
