What did the ending of an episode of Knots Landing actually look like? I know it had the Roundelay/Lorimar trademarks at the end, but the visuals that came before those trademarks--even the typeface of the ending credits--what did they look like? If anyone has a tape of Knots, examine the ending and tell me; I should like to know.

In seasons 1 and 2, the showed the cul-de-sac while the credits rolled. In seasons 3-8, they showed the outside of "Knots Landing." It's like a continuation of the begining. In seasons 9-10, the showed the white background with the paint splashed on it. Another continuation of the beginig. In seasons 10-14, the final seasons, the showed the beach with a sand sculpture of Knots Landing (i. e. the cul-de-sac, sumner group building). On the Reunion movie video tape, it's the same as season 10-14's ending. I surely Hope this is helpful to you. http://www.soapchat.net/infopop/emoticons/icon_razz.gif

As you've probably seen by now, they changed the closing credits like they did the openings. During a vast majority of the years (when the opening sequence was the picture panels) they superimposed an image of the coastline behind the credits. The camera panned along the same coastline that we saw briefly in the opening, and the credits were done frame by frame (as opposed to a "crawl" like one sometimes sees in daytime soaps). When they updated the coastline shots for the eighth season, they also updated the closer (the old one was positively grainy). As stated, they had different backgrounds at different times, but the order of the crediting stayed almost the same throughout, probably for legal reasons.

Some of the more "important" crew members were credited first, though the excact positions escape me at the moment. The Story Editor/Script Editor got credit right before the "Also Starring" credits were aired for those actors. They then resumed the crew credits, finally getting to the disclaimers and the copyright info before Lorimar got their bit.

I do recall a few exceptions to their closing routines, the most notable being the one where Ben and Mack unwittingly visited Val's twins at the Fishers', and the producers decided to put a freeze frame shot of "the Fisher babies" behind the credits.

The episode Laura gave birth to Daniel, they put a picture of them both at the end with sad music. They also put sad music at the end of the episode Sid died I think. And they put the rubbish music that Mack/Greg and Anne were dancing to at the end of one of the episodes she was in.

The episode where Laura reads her own will on video also ends with sombre music - but did anyone notice that this is actually an updated arrangement of the same music played over the final moments of the episode in which Sid dies (when Karen and the kids leave the hospital)?? If you have them on tape, check it out.

Season 12 had a couple of really cool alternative end title sequences. The episode "God Will" - in which Danny, er, leaves - has the song of the same name playing over the usual end visuals and it works really well! (BTW, does anybody know who's singing that?)

Best of all though is at the end of the episode "You Can Call Me Nick". Instead of the usual theme, they play the song "Only You" over a montage of Gary and Val scenes, with the music continuing right up to the end of the Lorimar logo. Great stuff!
