As some of you may already know, season 9's theme music was a lot slower thean previous year. The credits were also a lot different.
Did you like the change or was the old sytle better?

I, for one, think that the opening music and the new paint backgrounds for seasons 9 and 10 was a good move for the show. After six seasons and 160 episodes of those boxes going across the screen, it was nice to have something different. I also have to admit, however, that the opening for season 10 was better( the slightly faster beat to the theme and the pictures were in color). I also appreciated the opening involving the sand castles and the early ones showing the cul-de-sac. The box openings were fine at first but after a while they just became old and tiresome.
I liked the opening to season 10 better than season 9. The music was a little faster and the color pictures looked better than the black and white ones. I liked when in season 12 they went back to the pictures scrolling across the screen. My favorite theme is the music from season 7. Which sounds a lot like the theme to season 13, just a shorter version of it.
I meant season 14, not 13.

I really liked the version used early in season eight. It used the flute instead of the saxophone we were used to, and they had just re-shot the very first bit, where they linger over the ocean a while longer than before. For some reason, this version was only on for about four or five episodes. The music was replaced with saxophone music (again), though the visuals remained the same. When the episodes were released into syndication, they put the sax intro onto even those first few episodes. The only proof I had of its existence was a videotape of the premiere, which I sadly lost in a move. :-) I kept wishing I would find that variation on a web site somewhere. Oh, well....to respoind to the original post (to keep on-topic better late than never!), I disliked the slower moving theme, and was glad they got rid of it.

Personally when I first saw the season 9 credits and heard the season 9 theme, I wasn't at all impressed with either. i thought in comparison to the previous years, it was a terrible change. As the episodes when on I got more and more used to the theme, and actually began to quite like it, as for the credits, I never got used to them, and still haven't, even though season 10's credits are slightly better, I think they should have stayed with the old credits, or made a better choice for a change.

I've just read Daniel Avery's note about the Season 8 titles - I'm pretty sure they didn't re-shoot the aerial shot for the opening titles that year, I'm sure they just showed a bit more of the original film.
As for the end titles, the film used on the closing sequence was as old and crackly as ever (watch out for the red splodge that appears very briefly beside the first Executive Story Editor credit in each episode!)
I'd love to have heard the flute arrangement of the theme - did they use it at the end as well?

no I hated the changem whose idea was it to splodge black paint all over the white background anyway??? and th music was more like that stuff you get piped through speakers in a shopping centre (You know the ones where they take you favourite pop song, chop the lyrics and slow it down until it sounds like a panpipe ballad)

It was Sandy Dvore's idea to splodge black (and red, and green, and blue, and ochre...) paint on a white background. ;)
Nah, I never cared too much for 'em either. Oh wait...

I can't remember what other colours were on there to be honest i always fast forward those titles. I prefer the ones with the boxes only when they put them in coloured frames (I think that was after the paint wasnt it?)

"The twirl" was the only good thing to look forward too in that "dark age" of credits. Unfortunately it was only for half a season.
